I Broke My Own Heart

when I first got this as a sample, i just liked it. pretty much exclusively wore it with my pajamas, for days lounging around the house- that i really wanted to be days lounging on the beach. samples are great for helping you judge skin chemistry, but i find they rarely give you the full picture. the sheer amount of perfume from a spray bottle is more than what you get dabbing your wrist from the sample vial. longevity, and some nuance in the notes, i think is lost in that little dab; compressed. TL;DR, I got a bottle and now i love it. what was a sweet and salty coconut has become more layered and dynamic as i move to deeper waters. more petitgrain, and savoriness. the kind of seaweed that wraps around ur ankles and gives you the hibbie jibbies. there's sand drying on your skin on the drive home. the jasmine starts distinct, before melting into everything else as it dries down. still is rather sweet on my skin, one of the only sweet scents in my rotation. as others have noted: not sugary. reminds me of this day when my friend and i both drove 3 hours to meet at montaña de oro to swim:) 'broke my own heart' as in every time i wear this, it's bc i'm wishing i was somewhere else. you might notice there's no saltwater note; add sweat (or tears) ! lasts a couple hours, but there's just remnants of skin scent at the end of work. longevity is maybe 5 hours on me? but i only do about 3 sprays on work days. does last better in hair. sillage is good (more than arm's length) for less than hour, then it starts to sit close. notes from pearfat's website: Top - Hot cocoa, petitgrain, teen angst Middle - Toasted coconut, jasmine, favorite sweatshirt Base - Seaweed, sandalwood edit: the more i wear this, the more i appreciate others' comments about this being a gourmand ...such an interesting and beautiful perfume! ty alie kiral for sharing your nose🙏

This scent is YUMMY. I hated it at first because all I smelled was coconut which I tend to stray away from but, it really grew on me after giving it more chances. Another scent that I classify as a gourmand because of the heavy Toasted Coconut and lactonic vibes I get from this. But it's so complex which is what draws me in and why I can see what others mean about it not being a gourmand because of how tropical and marine/aquatic it is. The Seaweed element in it is delicious. I feel like it can be worn any time of year and day. It smells like when you're sad on a gloomy autumn day and your partner hugs you to comfort you and you break down and leave your salty tears all over their sweater. It also smells like a warm beach day with a coconut ice cream in hand, salty sea mist getting all over you, salty gritty sand getting in your mouth, and your feet getting tangled in seaweed when you take a dip in the shallow water. I can't wait to buy a mini pear of this.

this fragrance is fantastic. immediately upon spraying this, i picked up on the coconut note, followed by an old house kind of smell. the dry down is warmer and cozier, very wearable in my opinion. wearing this, i’m reminded of the bygone summer i spent doused in coconut-scented sunscreen, crushing on a guy that i never ended up being with. it smells nostalgic and wistful. like coming home from the pool after a long day in the sun, the scent of chlorine and coconut sunscreen still lingering on your skin, and wondering if u should text that guy. and then once u do, feeling incredibly disappointed that he hasn’t texted u back. this perfume transports me back to that summer, and while it makes me kind of sad, it also comforts me. i really love this.

Upon opening you get a big dose of a creamy coconut note that’s somewhat sunscreen adjacent and a hint of some beachy seaweed. It smells like the beach, but more so like a small little secluded coast. It smells like you’re vacationing in a quaint little beach house with one room and a broken down porch that’s nestled right in front a small little private shore. The jasmine creeps in as an airy and sweet floral and mixes with the coconut to make a a subtly sweet aroma. The seaweed doesn’t stick around for too long, and you get a lot of that sandalwood in the dry down. It’s a softly sweet and creamy airy beach type of scent that feels comforting and subtle.

I would argue gourmand because I want to drink it... Sweet, milky coconut further propelled by creamy sandalwood. Bits of smokiness (coconut husk?) and a powdery facet I would relate to the hot coco note listed on PF's website. Salty like sweat and skin as opposed to a very marine seaweed/ocean. Less sunscreen, more tanning oil. My mom in the early 2000s putting on Australian Gold to go to our apartment complex pool. Extremely warm, almost a little plastic at first. This scent was left in the beach bag and slightly melted from the hot sun. Stands out from other Pearfats with its richness, while others seem to lean more light and airy.

absolutely love, my favorite from the pearfat sample set so far. my immediate impression on spraying was that this smells EXACTLY like the sweet sticky rice dessert you get at thai restaurants. sweet (but not sugary), creamy, nutty, and slightly savory (which i imagine is from the seaweed note, though i don't recognize it as such). i don't really get a beach/sunscreen scent as others have mentioned, but this does feel very much like a summery/warm weather scent. i wish this lasted longer than ~1-2 hours on my skin and had a little more projection, but it's a subtle, beautiful gourmand.

wore this around the house yesterday and really liked it:) coconut is a little sweeter than I usually go for, but it's not sugary or overpowering here. Overall treads gently, like a well-loved pj shirt or a favorite cardigan at the elbows. Definitely reminds me of the early 2000s beach aesthetic a la Zoey 101 i noticed i was way more into how this smelled in the crease of my elbow, than the underside of my wrist. so pair w sweat. !warning! may summon sunshine

This may be my new fav, it feels very familiar. To me this smells like I’m in high school, I’ve just taken a shower and I used coconut conditioner, and I’ve gotten into bed but now I’m slightly sweaty because it’s so warm. Somehow it works lol. Wildly disagree with anyone saying this smells like sunscreen - very different kind of coconut. Wish this came in a larger bottle because I’d purchase immediately

Finally found "my" coconut scent. This is so interesting. I get a strong hit of petitgrain at the top, followed by savory seaweed and toasted coconut. Doesn't feel gourmand. Reminds me of the smell in your car after it's been sitting in the sun at the beach all day and you track in sand and seaweed remnants. You used one of those coconut-scented sprays to give your hair beach waves on the way there.

oh my goodness, my favorite of the pearfats i smelled <3 such a romantic and well balanced scent, classy and totally not cloying. totally get that sense of longing, summer love, late nights up dreaming of someone... to describe it, it's like a white floral with slight oceanic/marine notes, a teen girl's room by the beach, ocean breeze and sunscreen. such a great scent, deeply endearing

the scent of my lonely baby-gay tween-hood. summer evenings where i would bike to the local pool just before close, followed by a shower with coconut shampoo, then go on tumblr for a few hours. fresh, cool and clean toasted coconut. i want to sweat in it and make it saltier. it’s a lovely scent, but i love it more so for the memories and the feeling it evokes.

I bought multiball from this house but I have blown through my sample of this and crave a full bottle. This is so comforting with a millennial girl aspect. I get hot chocolate, coconut hair product and slept in bedding. SO ADDICTING. Wish it lasted a bit longer on skin though.

a bit harsh at first spray, but dries down so beautifully - just wish this had more projection/longevity. probs gonna blow through the whole bottle and unfortunately for my wallet i will be purchasing again

coconut sesame peanut crackers (from the can) and sunscreen. not sure if i get the seaweed but there is a really nice saltiness that comes through. this smells like the summer from an old memory.

Screaming! I just love this it’s so pretty and nostalgic but I can’t pinpoint why. The coconut and sandalwood are so good together

my sample of this from the discovery kit actually immediately broke all over my pant leg when i tried to close it it, (good time to note- be careful and gentle when u handle these samples! mine broke from the bottom, i put a little too much pressure on it trying to push the lid back in. on the plus side my pants smelled really nice for date night) but alie is a mind reader and put a fresh sample in with my amicus cumulus order, so i get to enjoy it on my skin after all! i don’t consider myself a huge gourmand fan (they are lovely i just don’t usually want to smell like a cookie!), but if i were, i don’t think i’d ever take this off. this smells almost like a caramel brownie on me (heavier on the caramel than the brownie), but it also isn’t overly sweet, there’s a little something (forgive me, i’m not great at identifying notes yet) in there anchoring the sweetness and keeping it from going full bakery, which i appreciate. perfect for a lazy day at home, or whatever else u feel like doing, really.

Salt water and seaweed! Opens a bit soft and confusing, takes time to fully develop. After 20 minutes or so, my skin smells like I just climbed out of the ocean. No sunscreen, no florals, no sweetness. This is a dry, herbal, salty aquatic beach. The subtle coconut adds a dry raw nutty skin accord and thankfully doesn't come off plasticky like many other coconuts I've tried. This doesn't smell gourmand to me, unless you consider a mouthful of seaweed-y ocean water to be gourmand. I get a bit more sandalwood further in the drydown, gives a sense of driftwood and beach trees and bushes. Nothing stands out as a typical perfume or cologne type of scent. This is far more realistic in the sense I do get saltwater and seaweed and little else. Unisex, but I see this being enjoyed more by men, as it doesn't have very noticeable florals and has no sweet notes. Perfect for people looking for a realistic beach scent who aren't into "perfumes."

You have to endure the first 30 seconds of the freezer-burn, chemical sunscreen-y opening (is that what petitgrain is supposed to smell like ?), but it dries down & becomes so so comforting. It captures a lesson in manners from early childhood, when you are hanging out with a new friend for the first time and their car and house and clothes all have a funk... not a bad funk, but just distinct from your own family's imperceptible funk. You are polite enough to avoid bringing it up or making a face, but you never really get used to it and every time you sleep over at their place you wonder what the origin of the funk could possibly be: it bears no resemblance to detergent, or Febreze, or some communal family shampoo situation, it's just something inherent. Wearing it makes me feel like I can see myself from the outside, and I could be someone else.

i struggle with coconut a lot--it usually smells really synthetic to me, but this one is so good. sweet and salty and tropical but not sunscreen-y. it's the type of summery scent i feel like you could totally wear this in colder weather. it's a good "missing summer" scent. i love how nostalgic every pearfat scent is: this feels like what you wanted the coconut body sprays at the mall to smell like as a teenager. not to say it's not unique, though! i find it really interesting, although there are other scents from the discovery kit i'm more interested by. that's more my personal taste though. this is so good if you're looking for something tropical.
