Culture was one of my most favourite finds of 2024. Because I love tuberose, it had been recommended to me as a tuberose perfume. But it’s not a tuberose scent, not really. I mean the tuberose is prominent, but so are the rose, the jasmine, and the sandalwood. So well blended that one cannot categorise it beyond calling it a woody floral. The result is a very inner-temple fragrance, one that is somehow both calming and exciting, both sacred and sensual. My ask was simple— I wanted a beautiful floral fragrance with Indian sandalwood made in today’s era, that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg. And I was starting to believe it’s an impossible ask till i encountered a sample of Culture. The rose is dark and heady, the tuberose is bright and fleshy, the sandalwood smells exactly like when my grandmother would make sandalwood paste before her prayers, and the jasmine hits the perfect spot between indolic and sweet. The balance is incredible, and the blend is addictive. In my collection of ~200 perfumes, I have exactly two backup bottles. One is Nishane’s Ani, and the other is Perito Moreno’s Culture. Perhaps it was an emotional and impulsive act, getting two 100ml bottles of the same perfume. But I will truly mourn the day I run out of this beauty, and I want yo delay the eventuality as much as possible.

For me Culture opens up very floral, being lost in a thicket of rose bushes. Every direction, more roses, stems, leaves. Through the bushes I spot some sprigs of jasmine hiding just outside. The rose still remains moving into the heart, while I dig deeper through the thicket searching for that jasmine sprig. Along the way I encounter some sort of tropical floral note, but it's not one I've smelled before. By the time I'm out of the thicket, down into the base I am free. The scene is a calm lotus sitting upon a pond near a grove of cedar while I am on a sandalwood raft, smelling my campfire off in the distance, the heaviness of rose consuming my body, the tussle of sweat and musk in the soil from yesterday's rain intermixing. The fragrance evokes having survived something difficult, and now seeing the beauty on the other side of the storm. Inner peace. Serenity.

starts powdery, fresh floral with citruses in the back. some fresh green nuances here and there. properly reminiscent of the "Indian Culture". Creamy sandalwood with typical white musky clean lingering. Has a lovely green dewy bright morning like freshness.

Culture opens with a strong, mixed-floral accord where champaca (plumeria, magnolia) and rose are most prominent. As the perfume develops on skin, it takes on a watery yet somewhat dusty feeling. Green, vegetal notes emerge along with musk, strong woods, amber and spices. Unfortunately for me, the emergence of mixed-florals is short lived, as the perfume continues developing & changing. The lovely florals I seek are quickly overtaken by a transient watery lotus flower, mild green patchouli, lots of musk, tons of amber and intense spicy & woody notes. And I detect lots of nag champa in the dry-down... After wearing this perfume on a regular basis for days and trying extra hard to like it, I recognize it's really not for me. The perfume just does not resonate with me. To me, the perfume sits on skin and never becomes part of my being, does this make sense?? I fail to find the perfume soothing, warm, or serene despite its notes and accords. Culture wears as an extremely spicy-woody fragrance with shrill & weak floral underpinnings. Sadly on my skin, it is not the opulent, creamy and smooth floral dominant fragrance I envisioned it to be. The amber-spicy base is just unappealing to me. Leans masculine.
