Sport de Paco Rabanne

Wow! I bought some vintage perfume from etsy or ebay or something and the seller kindly included some unexpected, masculine gems at this was among them. The samples are 80's but clearly impeccably well kept because the top notes and everything smell intact. What a scent as well! I like to think I know all these and can recall them in great detail but truth is even the ones I wore (or my Dad did) are faded memories or rose tinted, pedestal stuff of legend, which they probably weren't. I don't recall this sport ever being something I'd tried, the original of course is a classic but this one not as well known, but it's a cracker! It's much fresher and more 'sport' accent the soapiness, without the piney aspect, it's spicy, earthy mossy drydown is of the era, Sport is great and that seller is a massive enabler (probably seeding people with samples because he has a glut of PR Sport bottles to shift) because I may seek out a bottle of this. There's me thinking I was done with vintage BS'ery.

PR Sport is a masterpiece of its era but with an atemporal class. The mix of green, herbal, mossy, citrusy, and woody notes is just perfect. At first, it may feel "simple" at first but that is an illusion: then you realize you cannot pinpoint what it smells like. With a little focus, you can discover how the notes may be interplaying. It feels tangy and woody, but highly classy, never cheap. Everything smells natural. It is "sporty" in a traditional rowing or tennis club sense and though it has an air of many fragrances of the era (PRPH and Drakkar Noir come to mind) it is its own thing. Remarkably, its longevity is phenomenal (10/12 hours) and transitions from citrus-woody to green-woody in the drydown. I found two bottles (30 ml and 100ml) at an old chemist's shop on sale at a bargain price: one of the best purchases in my life! If you find one and have a soft spot for classics, buy it. Best.

H & R's Fragrance Guide classifies this as a "Citrus Fantasy" fragrance, although the listed notes are those of a classic chypre. My guess is that the oakmoss and patchouli in the base notes are so understated as to leave the dominant effect one of an enriched and enhanced citrus. It's wonderfully fresh and invigorating, but not in that bland 90's aquatic way --- Rabanne's Eau de Sport has plenty of distinctive personality. For those who lament its passing, I recommend Pierre Cardin's Insatiable, which has a very similar overall effect and many of the same ingredients. Update: In the heat of mid-August I have to say again how much I LOOOOVE this! Why oh why on earth did they discontinue this gem. Le sigh... Love it! Would love it more if my mini had more longevity. I found a very cheap mini, and while time may have affected Paco Sport's longevity, the bones are still wonderful. It is fresh, handsome and well balanced. It's freshness lingers throughout the overall composition. It is citrus without being obviously so, herbal without being too dry, and all layered on it's standout (to my nose) basenotes of vetiver, cedar and fir. Simply the best and bravest Sport fragrance out there! Beautiful aroma, pure springtime to me! Its discontinued but they should bring it back! It is so optimistic and leaves such a great, manly and fresh impression that only very few fresh & sporty scents can stand their ground like this one. Many memories attached also! Amazings stuff inside, cool color and even the box is very appealing. Clean and juicy while manly and sophisticated! Love it!

i can`nt believe that I found a full bottle of the vintage of this.it`s splash edt .and no barcode and green dote on the box.it means it belongs to pre 90`s .the batch is 8A05 which reffer to 1988. man is it true would this belongs to 1988? it opens with sharp citrus and spices along with green vibes of patchouli it `s linear and till the end citrus and spices r there.nice citrusy spicy oldschool.

I fully agree with Oslo-fjord (one the members of this website) : My favourite fragrance of all time... and i say: THE BEST EVER. Very sad that that they discontinued yes. But i went to fragrance shop in Johannesburg, and the lady there said to me maybe we can find this fragrance in France at Paco Rabanne shop.

Fresh! No better word to describe this awesome fragrance. It makes me feel good. It is very sad that this masterpiece fougere has been discontinued. A perfect equilibrium between the woody, citrus and spicy notes. Both longevity and sillage are very good. Please Paco Rabanne, bring back Sport!!!

My favourite fragrance of all time. A flanker that is better than the original. When I was a teenager back in the 80ies, I used to bath in this stuff! Pity it's discontinued. Paco Rabanne should bring it back! -Fans of this should try Xerjoff Dhofar. They share some similarities.

What a beautiful scent for a man. I know for sure I've never smelled it on a man because I wouldn't have been able to resist him (even if he hadn't made a move). It' really very attractive, I love it!

Quite a shame realy this one has gone. I never met anything of the kind again. At the time this was to me the best sport citrusy scent. Surprisingly fresh while being in the mean time pleasantly warm.

a much higher quality scent than similar perfumes. trussardi is the most similiar product I have seen. It disappeared after 3 hours.

Used to have this back in the 90's. A unique, fresh and very lovely citrus/green fragrance.

This one comes from an era when "sport" in a scent's name didn't mean that it lasts one hour max, or that people wouldn't be able to smell it even if you were trapped in an elevator with them five minutes after having sprayed ten good spritzes of it on you. No. This one comes from an era when "sport" in a scent's name simply meant that when you were trying to describe it you'd put only one or two exclamation marks after the word "Powerhouse" instead of the usual three to five, and perhaps sometimes "Powerhouse" was spelled with a lower case "p". Other than that, "sports" of this era were handsome beasts, with sillage and longevity that would rout easily most of today's "concentrées". For some reason it was never associated with team sports in my mind, but rather with individual sportsmen. And not of the boxing, riding, racing or tennis kind. There were sport editions of Kouros, Boss, Santos and Lacoste respectively, for all these nice gentlemen to wear. Paco Rabanne's take on the subject was always about fencing in my mind, and time has proven me right. Imagine a fearsome maniac grinning behind his mask, while delivering devastating blows with his sabre to the wuss wearing some "Eau de Sport Sensuelle for the bleeding hearts" who stands against him. All furious and yelling "Take petitgrain for starters! And lavender too! Fancy some tarragon? Well have some! And let's not forget juniper! And oakmoss! And cedar! And vetiver! How about some patchouli and leather? Huh? How about them? Oh, you're going down boy, you are going SO down!..." It seems that old scents have their way of rewarding you sometimes, especially when they're not forgotten, but rather remembered with love and respect... I recently discovered two 125ml and one 250ml bottles of it, buried in the lower shelf of a little dusty shop. The price asked for them was pure urban legend material. "Have you ever heard the story of the guy who bought more than a solid pound of Paco Rabanne's Eau de Sport for 60 euros? It's said that from then on he stalks the night with a mesh mask and a sabre, terrorising everyone unlucky enough to have thought that wearing "Eau Légère de Mauviette" was a good idea for a night out..." I think it's time to go and look for my old but not forsaken sabre now, which is waiting patiently somewhere, along with my bronze medal won in a national championship some 30 years ago...

A perfume store that I frequent knows I enjoy fragrance's which are hard to find and if it has a very unique aroma. Sport de Paco Rabanne is one of those fragrance's. It has a perfect blend, when I first sprayed it on my skin I can smell the top note of Citruses coming through. After it settles you can smell the woodsy/warm spicy notes which giving this fragrance a very masculine scent. Being a sport cologne it isn't light in intensity, it has depth which I enjoy in a cologne. This cologne lasts well over 8 hour's and after awhile you can smell patchouli which gives it a subtle sweet scent overall. I have used this cologne both during the daytime and sometimes in the evening. Overall, what I enjoy about this fragrance is that there is only five notes which makes it AMAZING!!!!! This fragrance for me is perfect during the summer/fall time. Longevity is well past 8 hour's Sillage is excellent. A high quality fragrance, if you can find a bottle you won't be disappointed if you buy it. A real classy fragrance, a throw back from the mid 70's... 10/10

I have enjoyed this scent for some time and find it to be a very nice, fresh, citric, green and non-traditional 'Sport' fragrance. An excellent flanker, indeed. Very well-made and it maintains a nice radiant aroma on your skin for hours, although it never has loud sillage. A complete review will follow... This is a fragrance I've never really given enough time to. It's kind of like the original, but lighter and fresher. Mossy, the top notes on mine probably died off a long time ago, but the heart and base are clean and soapy, and you can still faintly smell some citrus. Ultimately, it smells like shaving cream, similar to Azzaro Pour Homme, or the original Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. It's not really worth it unless you find an awesome deal on it, but a solid smelling old school freshie that doesn't just smell like Cool Water, although it isn't completely dissimilar to CW either.

Deefit, I do believe this and Eau de Sport are basically the same fragrance. And yes, the notes list does need lavender in it. This is a very unique fougere with a "cool" feel, like an icy feel, but not necessarily minty or anything. A very distinct, light lavender with a real meat-and-potatoes herbal character to it, yet it doesn't smell dated and is light enough to be worn in hot weather. I've always had a bit of a hard time deciphering this one. I enjoy it a lot, but I'd love to hear some more opinions on it.

I love Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and have several vintage bottles in my collections. After recently having a "sport/aqua" itch to scratch and reading many positive reviews, I pulled the trigger on a partial vintage bottle of Sport. It's good; not gaga about it, and performance is just okay. Woody-spicy-soapy with a dash of citrus gives it a pleasant freshness. Nice for warm weather.

Just picked up a sealed 100ml bottle from the 80s at a flea market for 20 bucks. This is a classic, for sure. With that spicy, soapy, freshie feel many early 90s fragrances had. On first spray it has a sharp smell akin to a pencil eraser. That quickly fades to a woody citrus. Fades fast but stays close to the skin all day. Really reminds me of CK One but more masculine.

I've obtained a miniature of this a few weeks ago. It's much stronger than most 'sport' fragrances I've smelled so far. But I like it! There's something classy about it, without smelling old or dated. By the way, lavender seems to be missing from the notes.

The fragrance opens with a blend of spices and citrus, grounded by fresh-cut grass, with an earthy quality present throughout its evolution. Sport de Paco Rabanne is perfect for outdoor activities on a warm spring day.

Is this actually the same fragrance as Eau de Sport?

What to compare this to? At first, it seems to follow the direction of the greenest of greens, old-school citruses—think YSL PH, vintage Eau Sauvage, maybe Moustache, Capucci. But if Dunhill offers drama, Sport leans more into a creamy lather, quickly landing us in the realms of Smalto, Nobile, almost like Drakkar. In this sense, I wouldn’t compare it to Green Water, but rather to classic fougères. It’s a polite, successful barber scent—better than Lomani, probably better than Sung. This is how Pino Silvestre, Agua Brava, or Acqua di Selva should smell—those three lack finesse. Lomani would fit here if it weren’t unnecessarily sour. It’s probably not as noble as Nobile or Bon Monsieur; it carries a bit of oldness but is still decent. Likely close to the profile of Cerruti Fair Play. A nice, green scent, on the borderline between clear vintage and a newer, somewhat watered-down and sweetened, “modern” barber style. Nothing groundbreaking here—the impression is that this has definitely been tried somewhere before.

Well isn't this a sporty spice...Sport de Paco Rabanne is the 80s approach to a sport fragrance, unlike the more insipid concepts of the 21st century. Yes, there is this citrus, soapy springtime freshness and an early generous use of dihydromyrcenol that would foreshadow its ubiquity through the 90s—BUT the heart is all 80s Epicene Gamma IFF glory. Epicene Gamma IFF is a base that served as a crux for so many 70s-80s masculines (Hermes Equipage, Cacharel Pour Homme, Bijan Men; there's a great article here on Fragrantica that discusses it). In SPORT, its contrast with the "fresher" elements makes it meatier, more muscled, scrappy, like a sexy rugby scrum. There is a woody, leathery dry down as well; what a pleasant surprise. RIP Rosendo Mateu, perfumer of this striking composition.

My perfume collection started out with only four bottles: Aramis, Brut33, a blue bottle of something I can't even remember that a cousin bought me from London, and this one, Sport de Paco Rabanne. This was my go-to scent. I wore it so much, I got sick of it and threw away the half-empty bottle. Back then, the etiquette in my culture was that you could only have two or three kinds of cologne--more than that was considered vulgar. I was pushing it with four. So, I binned this one in order to buy Drakkar Noir. Some cultural practices are so stupid. But now I miss it, although I've forgotten what it smelt like. Does that make sense? I remember it was very citrusy, very herbal, lots of sillage and lasted forever.

This doesn't come across to me as much of a "flanker." The strong fougere accord is absent and instead we get dihyrdromyrcenol and spice. It reminds me of the smell of a "Polynesian" restaurant my parents liked to go to when I was young, minus the grease, fish, etc. odors., since there is spice and citrus, lemon in particular. And there is a bit of sweetness to it. I think I prefer vintage Spiced Limes to this one, for example, and then there is the long-forgotten Stardust for Men, which featured pine, spice, and citrus, though with the chemical freshness less obvious. I can understand how it has its fans but I don't see the occasion when I'd b enthusiastic about wearing it, considering the options.

If you can appreciate old school soapy fragrances that aren’t overtly outdated, but viewed as more mature and timeless, you’ll love this one. It’s simple but not boring. There’s a real likability here that guys who are fans of the PR original and Eau will really enjoy. And also if you’re one of those guys who’s gotten close to be able to wear the original, but just couldn’t close the deal at the end of the day, here’s your compromise. Worth seeking out for serious collectors over 35. Thumbs up! 👍

@Le Coeur Goth: Wow...60euros for 375ml total? You just love making people jealous, don't you? Shame on you! LOL! Seriously, though. Take care of those bottles. I remember mine turning from yellow-green to yellow in just a few months after I bought it. That contributed to the reason why I threw it away. I thought it was going bad. I always thought it was Paco Rabanne's version of Polo. I remember it was sort of like fresh cut grass with citrus...sort of. Anyway, I'll try to look for it on eBay.

Classic-citrusy-woody-fresh-aromatic! discontinued or maybe i couldnt find it! smells a bit like aftershaves which is a normal thing about classic perfumes around 1980-2000. anyway i love this one! longevity and sillage both good! price tag:reasonable price ----------------------------------------------------- 7/10

This smells green, manly, fresh, mature.(40+ although everyone can wear what he/she wants) For me it is almost a 1:1 with bogart (signature) and the bogart is much easier to find and for way cheaper.Perhaps the Bogart one is a bit rougher around the edges and this one a bit fresher. I have both and enjoy both :0)

Bought a miniature. The topnotes a re done quite well, actually a just out the shower smell. Ater a while though, the drydown is a little bit weird. A bit medicinal, maybe. I imagine a weak person smelling like this. Not a good thing, no.

aaah am really obsessed to get this onw but couldn't tell now , though i got the aftershave version and they said its quite similar , anyone can confirm or not ...
