Tears

As the name suggests, Tears is meant to evoke the scent of tears. While many describe its freshness as soapy, I experience it differently. Soapy fragrances often carry a sharp, almost prickling edge—the kind of tingling sensation you get from holding baby wipes too close to your nose or accidentally getting shampoo in your eyes. Tears, however, avoids that harshness. The lilac note transforms the composition. It’s soft, creamy, and distinctly powdery rather than sharp or citrusy like many fresh flowers smell, lending the fragrance a gentle, diffused quality. If anything, it smells like the lingering freshness after a shower rather than the act of washing with soap itself. There’s also a subtle salinity woven throughout. The salt is present but diluted, giving the scent a skin-like quality. It doesn’t mimic the sharp taste of actual tears; instead, it feels restrained and delicate. I imagine this is intentional—an attempt to capture the vulnerability and quiet intimacy of crying rather than its literal saltiness. A faint dampness runs through the fragrance, strengthening the association with tears. In the end, I would describe Tears as the scent of wet lilacs touched by a gentle, salty rain—a delicate, almost poetic reflection of human emotion expressed through nature.

A few people in the cons mentioned how it smells like lotion. That made me chuckle a bit. I can see how one could conjure that association, but only if you're looking for it in the opening. The dry down on me is very floral. Tears by Regime Des Fleurs is soapy, but to me lilac is soapy as a whole. If you don't like that note, you probably won't like a lot of lilac scents. I am very grateful to be one of those who thoroughly enjoy such smells. Melancholic is a great way to describe this, but melancholic in the way one would feel while staring out of their bedroom window while it rained. It invokes a feeling of comfort in me that no other perfume has. Safe to say I will be repurchasing, and will need to very soon, as I've made quite the sizeable dent over the few months I've had it. A bit of a disclaimer. As a whole, I am not drawn to "offensive" fragrances, whereas many desire their perfumes to project. For that reason, some may dislike the lack of sillage/projection in this fragrance. I believe it matches the perfume's aesthetic; it is a secret for you and yours to share. That concept is very poetic to me. TLDR; If you don't mind the clean scent you initially get hit with, you will be pleasantly surprised. It is very well formulated and inoffensive. Beautiful lilac.

I adore this scent — certainly lilac first, and it’s such a natural, shimmering, iridescent lilac. The juxtaposition with cognac, olibanum and ambergris is unexpected; it makes this fragrance truly unique and gives it depth and some maturity — just enough that while it might be a perfect fit for an elf (or a fairy, as @smmcmurthy points out), it is not a scent that accents purity or innocence. This elf has seen some things and developed a taste for subtle contradictions : ) I do wish I could detect fleur d’orange, rosewater, or pink pepper a little more. But for a blend of this beauty I would also be afraid to ask for any deviation from what it already is! Orris becomes more prominent in the heart and dry down, with a bit of clean powderiness (far from dustiness however, thankfully). It is fittingly ephemeral in performance — it has a bit of projection for an hour or two, but after three it’s gone for both myself and others. If only RdF made matching 15ml bottles to carry around! I have found ‘Tears’ to have better projection and staying power than ‘En Passant’ by Olivia Giacobetti for F. Malle, however (which is the only other lilac fragrance I enjoy, but that one is pure lilac garden after rain, whereas this one seems much more creative to me). 9/10

This was love at first smell for me. Ordered it the same day I got the sample. I've never smelled a fragrance quite like it - and it's definitely NOT a safe blind buy! It's very naturalistic, atmospheric, and moody. It smells like fresh cut, dewey lilacs resting on satin. The first day of spring when it's juuust warm enough to open your windows: the almost watery, delicately floral, cool spring breeze gently tossing the white curtains. It's a true spring fragrance both literally (spring flowers) and figuratively: it's a mourning, a eulogy for the cozy winter nights, and all the things that couldn’t make it through to emerge again from the cold dark; but it is also a deep breath of fresh air filling your lungs, looking ahead to all the beautiful things to come. "Nostalgic for memories you never knew you had" is truly the best phrase to encapsulate this fragrance. It smells antiqued and slightly powdery: like a Victorian era painting of a corseted woman, applying vintage makeup in her dressing room with the widow open. It's a melancholic, hopeful, haunting, beautiful mystery.

This is a very lovely clean scent. It's a sweet rosewater floral, with lovely soapy notes. It's very vintage smelling, which I like. I definitely smell the lilac and orange blossom. The orange blossom smells synthetic, more like a bunch of white flowers to make a Neroli scent. I wish I could smell the orris and the ambergris more. I feel like I smell it more towards the heart, but it's still incredibly soapy. On my skin the first notes are very peppery (which I love) Then it becomes a deep rose fragrance (also love) There is a green note with a soapiness floating beneath it. It's soft, a little more musky on me. There's a salty ambergris that I like, however, there is a note I'm not quite sure what it is, in the heart that feels like it's battling it a little. It stays very clean and it smells really nice and classy on my skin. I quite like how deep the rose becomes on me because on paper it doesn't smell as rich.

There are plenty of reviews describing the notes, projection, longevity etc ... so I will summarize those things quickly and focus on a more general impression. For me the lilac is dominant and beautiful from start to finish. I get the orris, orange, orange blossom and the rose. Projection is moderate at first, and minimal after an hour. Longevity for me is about 5 hours. I have tried all available fragrances in the Regime des Fleurs line. There were a few I expected to enjoy much more than this one. But somehow Tears is the fragrance I like best, by a good margin. It is a more gentile, smoother and airy Love At First Sight by Une Nuit Nomade. I am a guy. I love this fragrance. Is it unisex? Probably not lol, but I love it any way. I think my wife and daughters will steal it from me if they discover it, so I ask for your discretion as I maintain its gatekeeping in my own household. 9/10 from me.

Before purchasing “Tears,” I had an emotional journaling session with a friend and fellow creative from Chicago. We set intentions during the Virgo New Moon. Tears streamed down my face as I pondered on the future's potential triumphs and failures. I wrote about how buying a perfume brings me peace and helps me create memories. After our session, I visited Merz Apothecary, my absolute favorite store in Chicago and discovered this gorgeous, nostalgic scent. “Tears” made me feel beautiful. It captured the essence of lilac flowers transforming into something cold and descending. It felt like experiencing the process of grief, but through smell. Amidst the heavy rain showers in Chicago, I found myself appreciating life and embracing whatever the future might hold, letting out tears of happiness.

I love this scent so much. It does not last long, but it's a fantastic beautiful experience while it does. The first time I tried it I could not stop smelling my own skin and actually enjoyed how it changed as it faded away. It reminds me of something my grandmother would wear - it burns brightly at the start and doesn't have much of a lifespan. Perfect for the occasional quick moment when you want to leave an impression. It smells like looking at an exquisite painting or crying after a film that really moved you. I like to uncap this and smell it when I need a pick me up. Nice to layer it with a longer lasting scent or bring a sample/travel size of a scent with more longevity to apply once this fades out.

The initial spray of Tears is overtaken by pink pepper, somehow smelling similar to L'eau Papier by Diptyque despite the lack of overlapping notes. But it quickly subsides into a damp, melancholic lilac. The dampness can only be described as that of a white linen pillow, wet with a woman's tears late at night. No, this doesn't smell like fresh linen, and it isn't salty, but the feeling it evokes is muffled somehow... crying into your pillow. We've all been there! Longevity is decent, as it survived an hour-long bath on my skin, but sillage is intimate. I think the intimacy is perfect for a perfume of this nature. I might love this fragrance, and I hope to get a full-size bottle eventually.

Soft, private, mild-natured, withdrawn. The sample I got was a little too small, so I may need to revisit it to understand it fully. Fitting, actually, like it no longer even wants to be understood. I guess hopelessness can smell pretty great, although maybe a bit too powdery and comfortable for me. Will report back. Edit: I changed my mind about the powdery-ness. It's perfect. The only thing I'd change is the longevity. I get about an hour and a half on my skin. Tomorrow I'll try it on clothes and see what it does. Although it might be a short wear, I think I'm in love with it enough to get a bottle. I'll just have to ration it a lot. It's the perfect understated, cool, sadgirl perfume.

I just love this perfume. It smells like lilac, 100%, and clean laundry, but somehow it is also grounded and earthy. There is something there that makes me want to keep sniffing, like when you are falling in love with someone and just want to huff them. Like it’s mostly beautiful clean lilacs, but just a hint of dirty person. Maybe that’s the “animalic” note. I think what I love most is that it is not sweet at all so it’s more-ish rather than cloying. I find that it lasts a long time, all day, but doesn’t project much, which is also a good thing for me.

Your favorite blanket, just washed, but it's 1830 and Tide hasn't been invented yet. It's not warm from hanging in the springtime sun anymore, it's cooled and spread out perfectly on your bed - you've tucked in all the edges. Sunlight through the whitest lace curtains, throwing dappled shade across your bedchambers. Tiny white flowers, the slight aroma of lilac bushes wafting in through the window on the breeze. Everything is in its proper place and all is as it should be. Nap time?

Shut up, it's perfect. So nostalgic and quietly sad. Gives me the strangest memory of leaving the public swimming pool as a kid on a humid summer day because its begun to thunderstorm. On the way to the car, you walk by a lilac bush in full bloom as the rain comes down. Truly so well done. Like an angel crying or a ship seeing the lighthouse or the first spring rain or running into someone you knew a very long time ago or some other embarrassingly poetic happenstance. Beautiful.

Just lovely. I first wore this on a trip to the NorCal coast, so I have a briny, oceanic association that makes sense with the salty, wet qualities of this perfume. The lilacs are very realistic to my nose. The ambergris dry down lingers all day, I can still smell it on clothes and in my hair the next day. A reminder that tears aren't always sad. Shape-shifting. In warm weather, it's like a joyful spring day. In cold weather, it's perfectly dreary and somber.

This is my after-everything-shower, bedtime perfume. It’s so soapy, calming and comforting. Theres a vintage quality to it, not in a literal sense, but it feels nostalgic. Like a memory I’m going to miss. I feel like a princess wearing it. Like The Princess and the Pea. Or that scene in The Little Mermaid where it’s her first night as a human and she’s in her PJ’s looking out into the ocean. I always look forward to smelling this. LOVE

Really clean, watery, transparent lilac. I definitely see the comparisons that people are making re: laundry soap, even if it doesn’t go there for me. I was really enamored of this when I first tried it, but then I found several similar fragrances that I liked much more (mainly En Passant and A Drop d’Issey)... and a few of which are far more affordable. Still, it’s really beautiful, and if you love lilac it’s definitely worth trying.

SO good. Smells like rainy dewy lilac fields. I happened to test it out on a humid rainy day, and I kept catching whiffs of my wrist throughout the day and loving it. It smells a teeny bit soapy but I don’t mind that. Although the scent wasn’t so powerful as the day went on, I could still smell it faintly on my wrist after about 10 hours without reapplying, which I would personally consider a win. Can’t wait to buy a full bottle!

Weirdly enough, this smells EXACTLY like baby wipes my mom used to carry in her purse. For me, it evokes being taken care of—getting picked up from school and walking home on a cloudless day. As other reviews have mentioned, there's no salinity or anything that evokes tears per se. But I can see how the name of this bottle hinges on its nostalgic appeal and its play on scent memories often associated with powdery florals.

A melancholic bloom...heavy with waning, pale purple blossoms beneath gravid, overcast skies. This is a lilac musk; a fresh and humid moment at the end of the short window of life in which these tender flower-bunches explode with ephemeral joy. Sweet decay flanked by vigorous yet tempered foliage; it's sweet and creamy but not gourmond, it's fresh but not juvenile. It's honest and assertive, it's absolutely lovely. 9.5/10
