An Ancient Ritual Of Purification Patchouli Homme by Reminiscence is not the first or the only perfume centred on this polarizing ancient plant. And it won’t be the last either. A plethora of brands, both designer and niche, have at least one piece in their catalogue, monothemed or inspired by patchouli. And with Reminiscence, we find at least a handful of them which range between different concentrations and blends with other protagonist ingredients. While maintaining an almost similar DNA, this men’s version, in my perception, differs from the original, which has sweeter and more chocolatey notes. This, however, leans more towards mineral, dusty, woody and dirty accords. Naturally, both focused on the note of patchouli, this version enhances all the strong and sharp facets of this unique raw ingredient, which gives a powerful sensation of a dusty and leathery accord. It lacks that touch of sweetness that helps define it as an amber perfume, distancing it from gourmand territory. If you want to risk a blind purchase, keep in mind this thin line that separates the two fragrances. Patchouli Homme is a non-linear fragrance that crosses citrus, balsamic, earthy, powdery, and resinous accords. It reveals itself with an intense sour citrus accord, mainly lemony, with a dirty and bitter undertone. There are hints of minty and balmy nuances, not exactly those of the mint plant, but more bitter and spicy akin to mugwort and cardamom. Perhaps it is coming from the patchouli itself, which belongs to the mint family, and some oils have a minty-woody undertone. The lime fruits are cut into slices; you can taste the oil from the peels and the juice from the pulp, and they combine with the chopped minty things, as in a non-alcoholic Mojito. If you’re familiar with the original Patchouli, this opening is slightly unexpected and unsettling. It is not as rich, palatable, vigorous, overbearing, pressing, or irritating. Patchouli Homme is cool, relaxing and comfortable. You might expect a dense, opulent, full-bodied departure, but nothing so celestial and refreshing. It confuses me, luckily in a good way. The more I analyze it, the more my desire to know its evolution grows. Do not assume this as a citrus scent, because the zesty aspect vanishes quite soon. As the initial harshness fades, the scent of patchouli leaves mixed with those of geranium intensifies and takes shape, following the gestures of a propitiatory rite. Slowly the dark and dusty patchouli emerges from a purifying cedar wood tub, the acidic drops flow and dry, evaporating, until aromatic and soothing oils and talcum powders completely cover it. Dusty iris root and earthy patchouli leaves alternate in an enchanting aroma, rich in sensuality and delicacy, powdery but always confined to the masculine sphere, never similar to baby powder or too flowery. You perceive something rough, dusty like soil, or chalky like concrete. The flowers present in the formula are never cheeky and give the perfume that virility worthy of the name it bears. Despite having undergone a process of refinement, modern patchouli still displays many earthy facets, while the sticky, sweet, oily and gourmand notes are absent and leave room for odours that recall the roots of plants just uprooted from mother earth, dirty with moist, fresh soil. In the central part, to my nose, I can feel the powdery nuances of the iris together with the filthy ones of the patchouli, which partially hide the drier and woodier aspects of the cedar. Since I love both accords, I miss that touch of pencil shavings a little, without detracting from the beauty of this elixir. After a long hover flight, landing manoeuvres begin, which induces a new mutation. The dry-down appears moderately sweet, more balmy, and warmer than the opening while maintaining the filthy aspects. The presence of a good number of resins, balsams, and labdanum gives the perfume a special charm with a leathery slant. Sweet benzoin and powdery musk are present in a beautiful balance, never overwhelming the other participants. In the end, patchouli and tonka bean will remain, sharing a beautiful amber composition with a pleasant, powdery, semi-soapy flavour. To some extent, iris, vanilla, tonka, and resins blend sometimes remind me of Shalimar EAU DE TOILETTE, which is a distinct perfume with just a few related vibes. Patchouli Homme prefers the joys of autumn, the crisp breezes, the bright colours that change, the persistent smell of damp earth and the sweet melancholy of watching nature prepare to rest to face the freezing winter. Despite being recently produced, the performance is rewarding. I can feel it on me for several hours, and the projection is not annoying or suffocating. I think you can wear it with no problems during the day, to go to the office, as well as for evening or night events. Ultimately, I bought it blindly since the tester was not available, relying on the original version and the stated notes. And I don’t regret the choice. I’m basing my feelings on a bottle I’ve owned since March 2024. (BC G056, PD 2022-06).

This is a very good patchouli scent. My tester was small but I enjoyed all of it. It has a sweetish fresh opening that doesn't last much, later patchouli gets stronger over all, but stays in modest limits and keeps its slightly sweet tone. I have two stronger patchouli-oriented scents to compare with, this one is milder and more general. I am surprised it was made in 2000, I'd rather guessed it was from 2010 the earliest.

Such a beautiful fresh yet warm and inviting fragrance. I had a tester from 2023 and it only mentioned Lime-Geranium-Patchouli but there is a beautiful warm resinous candlewax quality to it that reminds me of church😍 Such a lovely fragrance❤️

Soapy woody patchouli, a temperate spiciness buffered by a nice balsamic undercurrent. Perfect for transitioning weather, preferably cool. Has been projecting all day on my skin and doesn't show signs of slowing down.

In cooler weather, like today, I layer it with vintage Oleg Cassini. Wow!

I bought this when I was on a quest to find the perfect patchouli. I was unsure after the intial spray because I found it too old fashioned. Then it settles down to something much different. It's refreshing, a wonderful smell, very limey for the first 45 minutes and actually smells as patchouli should (in my personal opinion). It wears well for about 2-3 hours before becoming a more ambery skin scent. My only complaint is the longevity. I wear it to work sometimes on brighter days with blue skys. I think for the price it is good. Besides, you can always top-up. It doesn't cost the world so I am ok with that. Edit: Actually I am wearing it now, 6 hours after applying and when I look up I smell it again. So maybe I smell more pleasent to others in close contact. I don't know. Give it a go, it's very nice. Patchouli by Molinard is similar but longer lasting, more earthy and the geranium is loud. I like both. This one is brighter.

Probably the best men's patchouli around (along with the more "earthy" Borneo 1934 and the "edgy" mint and patchouli version of Villoresi.). It is as if this amazing ingredient is reinvented for the sake of this scent. Don't expect the bold, oily, hippy like kind of patchouli we all more or less know. This is a gentleman's patchouli : good mannered, masculine and easy to wear all year round. The opening is fresh, aromatic, extremely balanced and quite brief. Citrus notes, blended in a way that nothing stands out alone. The heart is woody and floral with hints of abstract spices on a velvet, dry and clean patchouli background. The base is warm, balmy and moderately sweet. Good longevity and sillage.

Patchoui incense stick. With some citrus notes mainly on top and a tad of sweetness provided by the tonka. The cedar note is also detectable but not much else to add. It's interesting if you are looking for this particular take on the patchouli theme but falls a bit flat to me, and by no means is an alternative to the great Givenchy Gentleman. Of the three Reminiscence Patchouli I've tried so far (original for women, Blanc and this one) I'd recommend the women's version for a richer, fuller and a bit 'gourmandish' take, with the Blanc being the most wearable (versatile) of the three. 6/10

This discontinued patchouli gem is a masterpiece perfume. I have the og Patchouli from the same brand and that one is one of the best patchouli frags ever created. My bottle is around 5 years old and the juice is getting better and better. A fresh alluring citrus opening that disappears rather fast but the patchouli oil is dominating throughout the whole long lasting lasting trail. The performance is great and the nuances of green woody notes and resins are well blended. The base is that typical earthy dry chocolate patchouli with resins that lasts 12 hours. What a gem!

Loving this blind buy. I always associate patchouli with the head shop version(which I actually love lol) This is very smooth and relaxing. Nothing loud or offensive going on here. The citrus opening disappears almost immediately and settles down to a soapy, vanilla vibe on me. Definitely unisex. Great value, comforting fragrance. I’ve been spraying it on my pillow at night before bed.

This is an absolutely great patchouli. It's rich and warm, pretty clean but with just a tiny bit of that soily chocolate feel. The lime in the opening really makes it pop, and is pure class. It's quite similar to Guerlain Heritage and to the base of Zino. I wish I had bought one when Rem were discontinuing the old bottles...

It ́s a very interesting parfum, The opening are live citrus and midle notes the patchulí and other wood notes dry and sweets at the same time. The base notes are ambery and intimates with the skyn. For all the year use but best in Winter than summer.

Masterfully blended Patchuli combo with undertones of benzoin and cedar to make it rounder and different enough from the feminine version- to which resembles a lot though. A must have if you like the genre

Very nice masculine patchouli. Rugged and classic. Its a take on Davidoff Zino or Guerlain Heritage with bright citrus opening and far more darker patchouli at the base.

It's okay but really not patchouli more like cardamom and sandalwood very spicy. I still like the original Patchouli though marketed for woman it's very unisex.

Starts like Givenchy Gentleman and turns into the classic Reminiscence Patchouli after 15min, but somewhat less ambery.

One of the finest "fresh" patchouli fragrances available. Now sadly discontinued.
