Capucci de Capucci

Just to give you an idea of this fragrance... Robert Capucci, a very intelligent and artistic Italian designer that is able (is he still alive btw?) to create his fragrances in an unique style. They all communicate class, complexity, non-commercial, intelligence and own identity. SUPERB is this original, in the manner of 'First' and 'Diva'. Other favorites are Ballade a Venise (impossible to get!! :-(), Opera III (of which I think will become a collectors item before we know it). I have been wanting to try YENDI for ages, as well as Filly and Parce Que. Chat Lunatique is a HUGE fan of the Capucci for men original, still available for a great price I hear. In conclusion: Capucci should be there on every shelf of all Fragrantica members..

My dear mom asked a friend of mine who went in Paris to bring me back a perfume. He brot this n I loved it so much back in the 80s. Floral n beautiful but there was a note that I could not tolerate well but i still loved n wore it often. Then I could never find it to replace my long gone bottle... til now! I just bot a bottle on ebay! YAY! I heard it's been reformulated n that's a good thing cuz now i don't have a problem w the note that bothered me in the past n I'm so glad it's mine again!! Fresh, green, floral, woody, slightly powdering n so fem. This is what perfume is meant to be! An important part of my ever expanding collection!!

I have tried both the vintage of this lovely fragrance and the current formulation. Don't throw tomatoes at me but I enjoy the current formulation better. The vintage comes on so strong in the opening it is a challenge to wear. The chypre is HUGE! I find the current more wearable. It wouldn't seem out of place any season for any occasion. They both have the same and BEAUTIFUL dry down along the lines of Joy by Jean Patou or First by Van Cleef and Arpels. It is soft, cozy, womanly, classic decidedly NOT a current offering. Think museum quality...instead of fruity smooty celeb fragrances. I love it! Happy Perfuming! ♥

For the vintage original formulation(s): A crisp and luscious chypre driven by a burst of aldehydes at its start, the original Capucci de Capucci makes a splash, all gregarious but not quite as garish as many of its 1987 peers. The usual suspects are here: the overflowing tuberose and ylang-ylang, spicy carnation and rose. There's the peach, the green contrasts, the coriander, the staples of the age. The emergent woods and leather, just a bit ripe under the surface, are well worth the admission, but the whole wearing experience is grand.

Oh, wow...this is so much better than I expected. Very along the lines of Oscar. Love it! My husband, however, who doesn't give a damn on a regular basis, disapproved it. Said " it's too overwhelming". Very strange because he likes Opium and Boucheron on me. Maybe i sprayed too much ( 6 sprays...huh? No wonder it knocked him over). 3 hours later it smells so gorgeous. 1-2 sprays well in advance prior to mingling with people is more than enough.

Thank you, Action! My purchase of Capucci was inspired by your review by the way! I noticed, you too like to dig out the priceless gems forgotten by many. I noticed i am getting really irritated with a lot of highly commercial scents worn by every other person(even though I have a lot of them, but at least high quality ones)...maybe because they make you blend with the crowd.

Vintage Capucci de Capucci is like a second cousin to vintage Fendi EDT with more florals, a touch more coriander, and less leather. It is beautiful. The ylang-ylang and carnation become more prominent about an hour on my skin.

Strong... luscious.... how did I miss this one back in the day?! Its my new love. Will write a more comprehensive review later. Can't type properly with my nose in such close proximity to my arm.

Received as a gift from Greek goddess akats, - and loved it straight away. There are scents that we just fall in love from first sniff. Everything that might turn off other people would please us by sweet familiarity. One of the tricks from our olfactory memory storage. I think my gifted bottle is an old time one, so its different from modern version as I really smell aged leather among relaxing ylang-ylang...Its somewhat balmy-oily rich flowery-leathery aroma to me, like a business woman after mad working day jumped in a New-York taxi, took her shoes off, stretched her feet, closed her eyes.. The smell in a cab is mix of those old leather seats, her own smell of chypre floral something, hint of tobacco from previous passengers, - all is vivid, real, animalic even... Reminds me old Climat Lancome...maybe that's why instant recognition and affection.

I madly love the vintage fragrances of all eras, from the most dated to the memorable 80s, I have many qualms about the 90s (triumph of the pushed gourmands) I look for them with the lantern and when I find them I buy them up from a compulsive shopping spree. In the hyperbolic vintage olfactory pyramids I especially appreciate the masterful triumphs of aldehydes, the endless white floral storms where the tuberose reigns supreme surrounded by spicy notes and amber, animalic, boisés, chypre, and vanilla undertones. They are opulent fragrances that tell of glorious times, which exalted femininity in an interminable orchestra of contrasting but divinely united chords and notes. Capucci de Capucci by Roberto Capucci is a happy example of this. Symphonic sillage. Lovable duration. I share with a review on the vague reminiscence of Dior's Hypnotics Poison.

A complex, layered perfume with a classic structure and composition, CAPUCCI opens clean and crisp with a lemony edge. Shortly thereafter, the aldehydes make their presence known and impart a soapiness to the middle floral phase. Finally, the aldehydes begin to dim as chypre elements emerge but without ever becoming too darky and muggy. The cleanness characteristic of the opening persists throughout. The edt has good longevity and is a perhaps surprisingly coherent fragrance, given the veritable smorgasbord of notes. I did not detect the coconut or the civet, which is probably a good thing, since such notes are best used very sparingly, as subtle condiments, I think. Although some might find CAPUCCI "old-fashioned," I like it. And so does my cat, for whom even the tiniest trace of civet appears to be a magnet!

Picked up a vintage bottle of this at a flea market and I adore it. It smells like the DNA of perfumes my mother used to wear, so it’s incredibly comforting. The 80’s were a wonderful time for bold fragrances like this, but on that note it’s not anything original? Like I said, it’s got the 80s DNA through and through, a classic Chypre. It’s a smoothly blended woodsy, ambery, spicy concoction. I really pick up the leather as well. I wouldn’t use more than one or two sprays of this (in fact it’s the kind of perfume you should spray in the air and walk into)

C. is a lovely aldehydic chypre and rich with oakmoss and some floral notes. There is a sharpness though to the scent which is typical of many chypres. The sharp opening never smooths out completely, although the dry down features a woody note. Without the sharpness C. would be beautiful. The perfume is wearable and work safe, with moderate sillage and lasting power. It reminds me of Sublime by Patou, but S. is the better fragrance IMHO.

I have a full, vintage bottle like the one in the picture with the red pyramid shaped box behind it. It's a splash. The aldehydes and citrus are mostly gone. It's very pretty, rich peach and flowers, perfumy, and not heavy or spicy or oriental. I see these vintage bottles on the regular and for peanuts. Highly suggested purchase if it's been kept in a box and the color is intact.

Hi, Based on the purple boxed mini perfume I purchased, I have bought the big one like down at Perfume country. But the two are very different in smell! My advice is to invest into a purple boxed which costs twice as much as this ruffled white boxed something and enjoy!

Caveat: I have a vintage bottle from a set so mine may smell different. It’s not really to my taste, but it’s overall well made. It leans more towards a unisex smell with intimate sillage and decent longevity. It is a soft, clean fragrance in a way that showering with unscented or moderately masculine soap is. I get aldehydes, oak moss, and a generally green smell. If you like sweeter or more floral fragrances, this is probably not for you. If you like green or unisex fragrances this may be something to look for.

I've found this today in a drugstore and was not expensive at all. I tried it and left it there. Not my style at all. It was same bottle as picture above and the box was white with orange and red tones. I think it was the reformulated one? No idea. As soon as I sprayed I smelled a very old perfume. Not old lady! I mean old style chypre from the '70s, very old school aldehydic floral with some skunk (to some noses it maybe seems like old soap) given by civet, probably synthetical replacing. The aldeydes kept for long together with big flowers, not my fave ones I guess. It wears better with time, which is a plus compared to nowadays perfumes where you smell good for first 5 minutes and then it's all about glue smell. It's still a longlasting and powerful scent. I cannot imagine the original, but it could be pleasant if worn in tiny doses, as women did many years ago, when there was no frenzy about buying and spraying and a bottle was a precious item made to last the longest possible. It was interesting to smell Capucci. It brought me back to my childhood when this type of fragrances were widespread and women wanted to smell elegant and sophisticated, not like strawberry lollipops. It would be a good deal for a lover of the kind or else stick to Caleche vintage.

Is very nice, very rich. You have to like the soapy florals though, which are not my style. I wish I loved it, as Capucci has fantastic silage & longevity! Just too soapy for this gal. I appreciate the quality. My mom will love this one! Update: Sprayed it on a magazine on my desk, and when both my hubby & daughter came in to talk to me, they scrunched up their faces and said, "What is that smell? Not a new perfume of YOURS!?" I assured them that I was getting rid of it. Wow. They have never both said anything like this without being asked of any of my fumes. Has to go.

I don't find this old fashioned, unless you consider that plastic doll smell of the '60s to be representative of old fashioned fragrances. I don't think I like this, I only get that synthetic almond scent, no citrus and no floral. I will give it another shot, because longevity is extraordinary.

This perfume has been one of my favourites since the mid 90's.. A lot of my fragrances from that time have come and gone from my collection, but, I have always kept Capucci around. A lady I worked with wore it one day and I wanted to smell just like her. To me it has a light powdery scent without smelling too sweet or heavy. The original is the best, however, the reformulated version is still a beautiful fragrance and the dry down smells the same as the original. Capucci is a very underated fragrance and I will never be without a bottle. I still wear it at least 3 days a week, it never fails to attract compliments. "mmmmmm what is that perfume you are wearing?".. was a response I got only 2 days ago. In my opinion Capucci smells the way perfume was intended to smell, CLASSY, not a sugar fruit bomb.

Weird? So? I decided to smell a few parfums from one of those vintage Mellieurs "Parfums of Paris" micro mini sets, right? I've smelled MOST EVERY parfum ever included in thise sets .... God knows I prolly have 20 of em now, lol. I'm a die hard vintage fanatic! So, I just opened & dabbed this on my wrist this "Cappuci de Capucci" FIRST THING I thought of ? Piguet "Bandit" 💡 ❗️ Hear me out now ...... Goto Bandit & pull up the notes & take a screenshot. Then? Edit the pic & just cutout a square w/the notes .... Then? Take a screenshot of Capucci de Capucci & edut tge pic to put that square w/the Bandit notes right next to the Capucci notes. THEN You'll get it 👍 👌 🙆♀️ ❗️ Who'da thunk 🤷🏽♀️❓️ Lmao 🤣

Oh, this makes me think of The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone! What a beautiful fragrance, so classy, ladylike, luminous. A kind of perfume that is in extinction these days... As great as Coco, Paloma Picasso or L'Air du Temps. Update: The current formulation is entirely different from the original, it reminds me of Oscar by Oscar de la Renta. More precisely, Oscar + Joop Femme. The original was crisp and chypre, the new one is baby powdery and sweet. It's not bad, but it is not the Capucci I had one day... Could someone tell me his/her impressions of what it is like now? I'm curious... Update 2: Close to Lalique! Update 3: Between Vanderbilt and Oscar de la Renta. Final impression: it WAS so good.

This perfume is Drop Dead Beautiful! The opening is so nice, round and well-blended.Very elegant and smooth. And it just gets better and better over time. It doesn't take long before the coconut and patchouli stand out. They mingle extremely well and stay strong during both heart and drydown - at least to my nose. There's nothing tropical or beachy about this scent in spite of the coconut. It's one of the most elegant perfumes I've ever laid my hands on. Very warm, smooth, seductive, above all classy. The longevity is amazing - after 8 hours I still got whiffs of it when I moved around. I wore it to work today. No way I am ever going to waste this gem again for something like that!

I never heard of this, or even Capucci before. It took a Fragrantica article that caught my eye, and then a NIB ebay listing for 100ml very affordable! I bought a white box sealed EDT, which is a possible reform, but this white box has 3 ingredients- so I placed at early 90s? VERY NICE!!! Sure, I didn't NEED this... it's one of those 80s greenies- my favorite being K de Krizia or Maxim de Paris. I do not get many top notes, just a smooth spicy floral green musk sandalwood. It's not Diva or Paloma- but the junior sister, easier to wear.

Capucci de Capucci used to be a great perfume. The one available on Ebay is a shadow of what CdC used to be. The same applies to all other Capucci perfumes sold on Ebay. They are reformulations not worth the money. Most of them smell the same. You barely differentiate between Yendi, Filly or Capucci de Capucci. Recently I bought an original Parce que (parfum) and Capucci de Capucci (EDT). Those were masterpieces. The current versions are a joke.

An Imperial leather soap bomb .. but i like it . The first dab was definitly a vintage fizz.. quite harsh - almost masculine - reminded me of going in to the pubs as a child to meet my dad and smelling all the old men with pipes and vintage aftershaves all mingling .. similar to this opening ... BUT .. it morphs into a clean - but still a bit masculine - soapy sweet scent .. an aquired taste for sure .. but worth a go

I've just received my reformulated Capucci and to my nose, I get no chypre at all, just a creamy supersweet scent. Pretty much like Chopard Casmir. Mostly coconut and peach. Too sweet. Sad that I've never got the chance to smell the pre-formulated one.

Hi Yohji, it's simple, if the box is white with orange and other colors, it's a modern reformulated version. If the box is pink-purple, you have got a vintage version. Lucky you in true second case! ;)

To me (and to my surprise by comparing the notes -) it is quite similar to Amouage Beloved, so I agree with judiejudie (see below) - I think you can totally use it as a "budget-Beloved".

Mr Capucci designed some Jackie Kennedy dresses. The only problem is that my nose is not Jackie body and my nose dislikes this fragrance.... ;O)

It's not bad at all, but it results a bit too soapy for my nose. It's not my cup of tea.
