Tocade 2018

First I have to give a warning about the company Carethy. I was ordering what they showed and told was the 2013 version of Tocade, very happily, since this was the only company I could see having that version. It was seemingly cheap, but then they added a huge shipping fee... ok, I accepted that, since I was glad I had maybe a last chance to get the 2013 version, which I had heard is a little bit different - with good reviews. But then - it took forever for my parcel to arrive, and it was strangely difficult to track it. I just found some weird messages that it had arrived to the ”parcel shop” but it did not say where, and it even looked like it had ended up in Norway. I live in Sweden. Ok, finally I recieved a message of where to go get it, today. But it was poorly emballaged, the beautiful box was bruised. Thankfully the bottle was not broken. BUT - it was NOT the 2013 version at all!! I get somewhat angry about such misleading advertisement!! NOW - we are getting to the point! Which is to the actual review of Tocade, 2018 version. And it is nice! Mind that this is my very first impression. Putting the first little spray on: shared between my two wrists.(Not rubbed, properly just touched... 😌) This is much spicier than I thought it would be! I was a bit surprised; I have heard so much about it being so sweet, like the”first gourmand” and all that. I really was expecting a lot more vanilla from the very beginning. I did not feel very much rose in the beginning, either. After half an hour: still not very sweet. But more of both the vanilla and the rose now. But to me, it is actually a bit soapy!! Not what I had expected. A very nice soap, though!! Fresh, clean, somehow a warm soap, like some lovely soap that my mother loved in my early childhood in the 60:s. With some, a little sweeter, talcum powder on top of it. However; these kind of fragrances are the ones I often tend to love the most: creamy or soapy or powdery. This is what I have felt with fx Chanel no 5 edt, and even Chanel Coco - and who would have expected that??! Not I !!! So, I am very pleased and happy with Tocade!! 🧡 It will surely develop more on me in the hours to come, and I will get to know it more when I have worn it a few times. So far - lovely!! A couple of hours later: yes, the Turkish Delight is spot on! Bathing in the powdered sugar and all.

Bergamot, makeup powder and rose at the open. The lemony note fades somewhat but stays around faintly for a few hours. Mostly it's a beautiful super feminine dusty pink rose iris & powdered dry vanilla. More powdery than I expected with something like violet to my untrained nose. Vintage lipstick and powder too. Tocade seems to me to be both a deeper vintage than its original 1994 release date and a completely modern rose vanilla. I could see Vivian Leigh or Merle Oberon using something like this on the set of some 1930's film sitting at a dressing table with a satin gown on. It's also so modern that if Tocade had a name & bottle change and sat on a counter at Nordstrom for over a hundred dollars people wouldn't blink an eye or consider it dated. Tocade is not of the 90's really she is both ahead of her time and a charming throw back to, I don't know, the 1930's or 1950's. The bottle makes me think of carnivals and trapeze artists. I wouldn't be surprised if this sat on the trapeze artist's vanity in Wings of Desire even though Wings of Desire is an 80's movie and this is a 90's release. The circus bottle would fit perfectly with the romantic beauty and magical realism of that movie. Time travel make it so. Although I never tried the original 90's version it's probably better, not because I don't love this, I do, but because most of the familiar to me older perfumes I've tried recently have lost some depth and longevity. I remember seeing the Tocade bottle on display at department stores in the 90's and unfortunately ignored her because she sat next to the Poisons, the Joops, the Chanels and other more familiar perfumes. Somehow Tocade, to me, is like a trapeze artist. Not really out of place in current time but a welcome divergence that brings a smile to your face and maybe a little worry about the stunts she's performing and if she can survive. I hope she outlasts them all.

Second day wearing this. It is very lovely, and I will wear this when I don’t want to offend anyone. But still - I think it is a little bit weak... I thought it was going to be a lot more pungent. Thinking of maybe trying Mancera Roses Vanille for that?? But I have already discovered, that this one is very lovely to layer with other fragrances. One combination - forgive me here, I know that for some people Samsara is the untouchable holy grail - but, however wonderful, I think Samsara edt (the new one) also is a little too weak on me. But these two together - wow! They both enhance eachother’s most beautiful notes, and suddenly the whole concoction gets stronger. But not too strong, and I will still be able to feel both Samsaras and Tocades individual beauties, shining through! And I can imagine putting Tocade on top of Habanita, to give it extra rose... And yesterday evening, I was mixing Ombre Rose (Brosseau) and Tocade, before bed. A wonderful way to fall asleep. A little grandma-ish, in a good way. This morning I’m wearing it alone. Home-y, cosy. And my cat loves it - she licks my arm lovingly!! She loves everything vanilla... 😻

This is either very odd in itself... or I just totally misinterpreted what to expected. The texture I get is very watery. It's rosy, sweet and green. It is not unpleasant but I expected something thicker, nuttier, a little smoky. This, on me, acts like a cologne with a surprising 8h (plus?) longevity. I wish I had something to compare it to because it took me by such a surprise I feel like I have a different product entirely. I'll say the bottle is lovely to hold, above all. The look is interesting, reminds me of fireworks, but it doesn't compare to how fantastic it is to use. I'll keep working with it, give the bottle some time to breathe, wait for warmer weather. / Edit / Just noticed this makes me think of lipstick, maybe other lip products too, in 00s or so. I definitely get a powdered sugar vibe which I can see giving people the Turkish delight impression with the ultra-watery rose. I also noted that the hint of green makes me think of green tea... not bitter but kind of like that sweetened Arizona drink?

Turkish Delight. And nothing but Turkish Delight. 🙄🥱 Still like it, but I would never care enough about it to buy it again. It is really a pity, that you cannot try every fragrance before you buy. Edit; just half a year later! (July 30, -24) Suddenly, this has become one of my favourites!! How? It just shows, I think, that you should give a fragrance another chance. Maybe this, for me, has something to do with the fact that my husband loves this on me. But also that I am now myself in need of a soft and reassuring fragrance, as I am struggling with a period of much, much too much to do. And now I can feel a lot more than the ”Turkish Delight factor”. I can feel the depth of the fragrance, and the other noter - not just rose and powdered sugar, as I did before. Maybe I am beginning to get the hype. So I have now changed this from a like to a love.

I like this. This teeters gourmand but is not over the top or too sweet. I can really smell the vanilla and almonds and with the rose the sweetness morphs between lokum and sugar-coated almonds served at Italian weddings. Silage and longevity seem pretty good too. Cute, but strange bottle, reminiscent of something you would see at a carnival. Update - I'm wearing this fragrance again today and I am so enjoying it. Maybe it has something to do with the weather (rainy and damp out) but I am getting a lot of other notes out of this in addition to the notes I originally smelled. In particular, jasmine, a powdery iris, and a resinous, leathery labdanum in the base. I wish it smelled like this all the time as I really love how it smells right now.

Apparently I'm drawn to Tocade every January. I'll never use up this bottle. When I first bought it I thought it was plasticy or petrol smelling. "Oh lord another disastrous reformulated classic." But I used to have the same reaction to many amber vanilla fragrances, even "quality" ones such as my Shalimars. My bottle is now coming on 4 years in age and every year the juice has improved. It still has a petroleum vibe, but in the deliberate style, like Fahrenheit, not because it's built on cheapo molecules. Perhaps my uneducated nose. Perhaps I've become used to a bizarre smell. It is not an easy foodie gourmand vanilla in any case. Tocade is definitely grown up "perfume" style with some edge. And it's not a powder bomb on my skin.

Tocade is a dreamy, fluffy, powdery, almondy fragrance. I didn’t know what to expect, and I’m happy to report that I was pleasantly surprised. I would never classify it as a gourmand fragrance: rather, it belongs in the powdery-lipsticky category. The scent pyramid is mostly correct: Tocade opens with geranium, then turns powdery with the arrival of iris and rose, while the base consists of almond, vanilla, tonka and amber. I love the fact that it’s not overly sweet, because the almond note adds slight bitterness to it, while amber provides the camphorous-resinous element. Everything is well blended and nothing stands out too much. Tocade is a soft fragrance; it’s classy, pretty and totally office friendly.

Holy moly! On my skin there’s way more labdanum than the votes suggest. It’s super bracing and interesting. The labdanum and vanilla/tonka together reminds me of Lush’s Rentless, which is one of my faves and discontinued. It’s not a one-for-one match, but both have a similar balance of sweet warm tonka/vanilla and chilly, powdery labdanum. Tocade adds a powdered rose that sits in between both ends, leaning towards warmth. I adore it and agree with all the calls to go ahead and pick up a bottle if you’re interested. Also, the bottle feels so nice in my hand! The glass is just the perfect weight, and I love the height of the bottle in in my collection.

My Tocade was made in March 2020 by Interparfum in France, so it is coming up on 3 years old. It macerates in the dark chez moi. I paid about 20 Euros online and it seems like fair value but not great value and I mostly smell the base notes from 20 minutes into the wear. But it lasts a long time and is a comfy vanilla amber scent. On ME. Would I recommend it? No, because this fragrance is divisive. I wore it last evening and the base developed stronger and stronger as the hours passed. I was lounging in bed, working a bit, not moving, and the fragrance worked on my imagination. It became rich. This evening, yesterday's spray lingers on my pillow.

I bought my 1st Tocade back in 1995, and l loved it so very much! And so on with this new baby; it has been raining her all of july and until now, today the sky is blue and the sun is shining, and my new Tocade came to me in my mailbox this morning, and, it smells fabulously in my nose, the warm amber and vanilla, and sweet tonka, the powdery Iris and other flowers, and (1995), my beautiful eldest son, and our wondeful golden retriever Nala, and lasagne and Skuteviken, my self-painted pink walls and deep red curtains, and my best friends and our long skirts, long drinks and my tight red dress.... - this is Tocade for me!!

Beautiful amber vanilla! I believe I have the 2018 version and I can't speak to the reformulation, but I love this. In the top notes, I get a strong blast of geranium and a subtle bergamot note that dissipates fairly quickly. After it starts to dry down, I notice the rose, vanilla and amber most of all. I also get a powdery note, which must be the iris. It is cozy, warm, comforting, and I reach for it in the evenings when I'm relaxing after a bubble bath. I get what people are saying about the plastic/doll head note, but I am completely here for it. This is not a safe blind buy, but absolutely full bottle worthy 8/10 😍❤.

Babyniks - is your bottle Made in France by Interparfums? My Tocade smells good. It's a "dimestore" smelling perfume now, of course. But really good and simple but complete. I can imagine how this could come off as a plastic smell. I say that because my recent bottle of Madame Rochas smells as you describe - plasticy. Still after over a year. I think it has to do with benzoin or benzoin equivalents. . Maybe you should pump out quite a bit of sprays, to see if that works. And wait a few months. Its not like you can return it, can you? And nobody wants an off bottle of perfume. Good luck.

I adore this ❤️ The bottle is do pretty and really stands out in my collection. The juice opens with a big dose of bergamot and geranium, that has an almost fizzy quality, like sorbet. The Jasmin and rose overtake the geranium, as the bergamot softens, the iris adds a sweet, powdery note. Then the base notes begin to come through. Mmmm! It settles as a beautiful, authentic Turkish delight. I applied 3 sprays around 5pm last night and could still smell it 7am, so it has excellent staying power. Projection is pretty good too. I shall be buying a back up bottle as soon as possible.

One last wearing before Spring! Iris is prominent on me. Iris, labdanum, and vanilla. Bergamot is light, just enough to balance the sweetness from getting heavy. A very unique blend of its own. Gestures at someone who is fun and nimble. Reminds me of a party in winter. Something lively contained within a warm protective shield. Editing this to add: this would make a nice companion to YSL M7. Editing again to add: I've actually been wearing this a LOT this Spring. We are having a cold spring where I am, but maybe this works better in warmer weather than I thought?

Iris, vanilla, rose, labdanum. No aldehydes. Very powdery. Slightly spicy, very dry. It's great! There are days when it comes across too lemony for a while, but there are days like today when it's all spicy-dry-ambery-powdery iris rose. Rose geranium is not a universally popular note, but I appreciate the slight herbal earthiness it brings here. I like Tocade on a cold and bright winter day. Also a great bedtime scent during the winter. Bottle is playful with a decent sprayer. I love the pretty red box. (new-ish bottle I bought off fragrancenet in 2021 or so)

Sherbet, like the stuff you dip a lollipop in to and lick it off. It reminds me of that, fizzy almost, delicious. But it has more depth, vanilla, a little powdery iris, rose, powdered sugar. The initial lemony sherbet fizz eases after several minutes but it doesn’t change that much at all on the dry down. On my skin it lasts 5/6 hours, longer on my clothes. It’s pretty powerful stuff! I love it, it’s one of my favourites, I do love sweet scents though and this one ticks the box in terms of staying power and sweetness.

Wow Tocade is deeply comforting with no off notes at all. Moreover, it sure is calling up a memory which I can't place - for food, a location, perfume? I don't know. It's uncanny. Now, go ahead, tell me this curio is a reformulated, watered down, bastardization of a once great perfume. I never knew it then, so I don't care! Tocade isn't complex but lasts a long time, should be low priced, and will be enjoyed. Very long dry down of soft slightly sweet, powdery, and floral vanilla.

I thought this was going to be roses and vanilla. But I think it is just very faint roses and plain boring sugar... and some hairspray, even if only in the beginning. And then just too weak. Sorry for just being so negative, but I was just expecting more - and since it was so praised by Luca Turin and all. Meeeh! Maybe if I put it in my coffee?? 🤔😬

When I opened the bottle, it immediately reminded me of Tresor. The same powdery sweetness which I love, probably from the vanilla, almond, tonka, labdanum and geranium so well blended together. These are the notes my nose can pick up. It lasts for about 4 hours on skin. It was a blind buy, but I already think I should get a second bottle.
