Blue Mai Tai

I wanted to test Cocoyster and managed to get a bunch of samples from this line, including this one. I’m a sucker for anything beachy or summery. I loved Cocoyster, but wasn’t so into this scent. It is incredibly soft, like if there was one sip left of a Mai Tai left in a glass full of ice, left in the sun for hours until it melted into a semi-sweet puddle of water with a little citrus wedge left to stew in the concoction. The only notes I really detect are citrus and a bit of added sweetness but frankly not enough sugar for a scent that is supposed to smell like a fruity cocktail. It sort of comes off like a citrus cleaner on my skin, which I’m not a fan of. I hoped for a dash of blue curaçao or something to really “beach” it up, but all I get is watery orange with a squeeze of lime. I can see this working better for fans of softer scents whose chemistries work well with citrus. Usually only lemon challenges me, I have tried many other orange and lime scents without issue, but this one falls flat, unfortunately.

Let's see if I'm able to wear this properly some day but before that some words. If you really love to smell like Rum, this is for you. I almost get a hangover straight away after smelling this one. This is not any refreshing tropical rum cocktail , this is a double Rum with rocks. The most straightforward Rum scent for sure. All the notes are quite well done, a little bit synthetic feeling but not badly nor cloying way but it could have been blended better. It's quite sharp, and it feels unpolished, it would work if it would be gentle and soft. There is not Coconut here at all and it doesn't feel like that either. Just to mention since it's a common pair with Rum and someone has voted "this perfume reminds me of" Creed Virgin Island Water. That scent I love so much. I love boozy scents but this is too much for me. Absolutely a synthetic fragrance — it smells like yogurt all the time... This type of perfume has slipped into the niche world without any real effort. The longevity and projection are overwhelming. The target audience behind this bottle is hard to understand. I don’t recommend it, and I can’t bring myself to agree with this brand.

I tried all of the Salum white line. This one and Cocoyster are the only decent ones. It smells like a Mai Tai to some degree, or at least a tropical drink but diluted a bit. Also as it dries down you get a aldehydic laundry detergent type vibe. I’ve noticed all of them have this to some degree so there must be something they are adding into the base I’m guessing. Strawberry Pool and Salty Tiare were the worst when it comes to this laundry-ish note.

To me, this fragrance evokes the essence of the Italian drink Ginger. While it may not be my favorite from the collection, I appreciate how it unfolds on the skin. Like all scents from the Salum collection, it boasts remarkable persistence.
