Mughetto

Under-rated and not many speak about this one - so much so, when I bought a bottle in London yesterday, the frosted bottle looked like an even older generation than my old gen Tobacco Toscano - maybe these don't get sold often! As an avid lover of Lily of the Valley, my first-ever perfume, which I bought for myself, was the Yardley Lily of the Valley EDT on Amazon as a kid; then I branched out to Diorissimo, even going as far as to buy the vintage editions from the 1960s with the houndstooth bottles. I have even tried the Penhaligons Lily of the Valley too, in-store. So if those 'credentials' are enough to prove I adore my Lily of the Valley perfumes, please believe me when I say Santa Maria Novella's rendition is my *absolute favourite* out of them all. It's a true Lily of the Valley, with the perfect balance of green with light florals. Some say this smells like "room fragrance", but I beg to differ; it's simply too elegant and well-made to be a room fragrance - there is an absence of a rough alcohol opening that many Lily of the Valley perfumes have. On me, there is a sparkling citrus opening, which then blends into full white floral with leaves - one could say it has a slight green tea note in there. Then it dies down into something soapy - not quite like Fieno (another beauty from SMN I own), but clean. Somehow, without adding anything else to distract from the florals, there is depth to Mughetto that makes it very wearable for all occasions: evening, daytime, at work, and going out. Arguably, longevity is also impressive for a Lily of the Valley perfume: it tends to last over 2 hours and on my skin - that's an achievement! Compared with the old-world Diorissimo before their reformation(s), it smells a lot less animalic. Vintage Diorissimo smells more unique to me, but because it's such an old perfume with age, the animal musk in Diorissimo can be a little overwhelming, potentially putrid, slightly acrid, and not to everyone's palette - Mughetto is to me, another old-world Lily of the Valley fragrance without the grit and musk of Diorissimo. Clean, but with the SMN signature of making florals so regal and quaint. For £125, it's worth the price to me, but I highly suggest a sniff beforehand on the wrist to ensure you know it's worth it! On the other hand, there are many other beauties from SMN that I have the pleasure of owning and trying, such as Aqua Di Cuba and Marescialla, which are undeniably more interesting and otherworldly. If you're after something mind-blowingly unique, perhaps Mughetto's notes are a bit too simple. But I argue, perhaps the execution of Mughetto is what makes this fragrance so unique - a good and true Lily of the Valley fragrance is surprisingly hard to come by. For me, my search ends here!

While visting Florence, i made this acquisition, also test the others and the shop carefully. From my opinion, this is a beautiful scent. Obviously smells like white florally scent. But in depth, is a very clean, bright, somewhat green smell beneath the white floral scent. I enjoyed it so much and Santa maria della novela has some great fragrances and its due to the components/ingredients inside this beautiful bottles. One small caveat: This is a cologne, so don't expect an extreme performance or a bomb of scent around you when sprayed. You can absolutely spray this and is a very solid performance whatsoever.

I imagine it would perfectly fit to Jane Austen heroine: " To sit in a shade on a fine day and look upon a verdure is the most perfect refreshment." Above all, this is a non drama, ROMANTIC green floral and slightly soapy scent (SMN signature), perfect for optimistic spring and summer days. Fresh as a cold water, calm and uplifting. I don’t know about Diorissimo, but I find a resemblance to Byredo's Infloresence. Gentle, innocent and simple with a distinctive SMN top quality. When I wear it, I really enjoy every moment. 5/5

Beautiful. Rose, rosewater, ylang ylang, and several other flower scents nauseate me, so I can't do many of the flowery perfumes but this makes me happy and it's one of the rare bottles I actually finished using. It has no complexity, and is a straight lily-of-the-valley all the way, but there is a hint of smokiness I love.

This is a very green (although at times a little sharp), natural (almost like a home fragrance instead of perfume), and fresh Muguet similar to Guerlain'$. For only 1/4 of the price I have no regret.. I just wish more people would know about it

Une très belle alternative à Diorissimo (EDP uniquement) . Fusant, croquant au départ, il s'arrondit et devient plus doux en notes de fond.

This pulls super green and vegetal on me... almost citrusy, too! It also has a sour after taste too that I'm not crazy about. I smell some lily of the valley, but it has a more citrusy cucumber aroma to my nose. It does settle to smelling a little bit more like lily of the valley towards the end. It pulls slightly feminine, but I'd say this perfume is more unisex to me. I find this fragrance on the slightly stronger side too. I smelt it in a store here in Brisbane and I don't think I'd buy it personally. It isn't bad though and it does last a fair while on the skin.

For me, it was surprising to discover that the art of perfumery was created in Florence and only from there brought to Paris in the 16th century by Catherine De’ Medici. In Italy, motherland of perfumery, I encountered the best lilley-of-the valley creation. This scent is linear, however, deep. It engulfs you with its pungent sweetness and transfers you to flower meadows. This classy monoscent is a must for those who would like to experience the lilley-of-the valley feeling from time to time - in any season. IG: perfumepassione

Such a beautiful scent, but the scent is so weak, that it doesn’t justify the price. Looking for a cheaper dupe.
