Muschio Oro

Visited the SMN flagship in Florence recently and felt like a child in a candy store. Prior to visiting, I thought I'd settle for a bottle of Acqua della Regina or Melograno and then I tried this and sweet jesus it felt heavenly. SMN's fragrances smell incredibly fizzy on my skin for some reason, and this was no exception. Acqua della Regina dried down with a sour note and Melograno smelt too much like cola, but Muschio Oro was like a sweet, nostalgic aldehydic spritz on my skin. Most musky perfumes give me a headache but this smelt clean and refreshing on me, like I'd just exited from a really luxurious bath soak. This reminded me of Chanel No.5's Eau de Premiere but with a hint of petrichor and smelt more like something from my childhood than any of the No.5s. I was expecting a pretty poor performance on longevity seeing that it's a EdC but it clung on really well. It was great being able to pick out the scent admist the Italian heatwave and after a long day of sweaty sightseeing. Probably wouldn't recommend blind-buying any of their fragrances because they do seem to work quite differently on different skins!

Now this is a gorgeous feminine musk. Soapy LOTV neroli musky delight. I get Cleopatra vibes smelling this. Neroli was said to be her favorite perfume to wear. This is the best neroli musk with white flowers I have ever smelled. Can't wait to wear my samples for a full day but I'm thinking this is FB worthy. I get the Dial gold soap reference but Dial soup didn't smell this grand. But if you don't like soapy neroli forward musk stay away. I was going to buy this but the projection isn't as good as I would want it to be. I was spoiled in the 80s. Musks were bombastic. This is a lovely musk but I want more projection for the price.

A scent that evokes a wonderful feeling from my childhood. After having tested this frangance and reading other's reviews, I now realise that this scent is a combination of two things. One, reviewers have mentioned that it is reminiscent of dial soap and I do agree as I grew up using them. Two, although not listed in the notes I smell incense. The yellow and red incense sticks that were burnt at home and the temples we went to. Perhaps it's the spices used? This fragrance is nostalgic, bright, silky, sensual and charming. As the reviewer below mentioned, it's the scent of warm embrace.

I really like this. My bottle is (allegedly) circa the 80s, but has the same color as the photo above and smells wonderful. There is a peculiar yellow glycerin antiseptic soap aroma lifted by ridiculous aldehydes over a tremendous overdose of musk with a tinge of patchouli. It doesn't smell expensive, just really old-fashioned. Every time I wear it, I feel like the protagonist of Metropolis. Dystopian Art-Deco robot bubble bath.

Since I was a kid, the smell of Dial soap (the gold/orange one) has always been the scent of comfort, cleanliness and warm embraces. This is what this EDC smells of --- a bar of Dial soap. The only difference is that this EDC has a bit more of sharpness to it the first time you spray it, but it settles down to a mild, spicy, soapy scent.

It’s been reformulated and completely changed, I have a bottle from 10+ years ago and when I went to Italy last year I asked a staff member at SMN why it was so different, and they sadly told me it had been reformulated and said I was lucky to still have the original, since then I’ve sparingly worn it and valued it as gold ;)

Soapy musky delight, gets more powdery as it settles on my skin with something like incense? Burnt incense, remnants of it lingering in the air. This is great all year round, but I genuinely prefer scents like this in warm/hot weather. Sits at arms' length.

powdery, light, like a beautiful airy woman. It's not a powerhouse but I recieved compliments on this today, which has encouraged me to consider buying. SMN has great offerings - including the jasmine (Gelsomino) frag, which smells a lot like jasmine tea.

Yes, this is soapy, like a classic frag from Guerlain or Caron. It is intense musk with a hint of blended supporting citrus with no zest and a little spice. Very balanced. A nice, clean, deep soapy scent. Classic.

A lovely classic musk with ivory soap like qualities. Smells clean and refreshing

Such a beautiful and delicate musk. Opening is quite bitter, soapy, and a little bit herbaceous. Neroli and lily-of-the-valley shine through. After that, all I can smell is a vintage loose face powder 'teatralnaya' which was produced in the USSR, and sold in round carton boxes. It may not be the most complex scent out there or within SMN range, but it is a very beautiful, nostalgic, and comforting scent nevertheless.

First impressions: (sample) Smells like it's in the same realm of marlou perfumes, chanel no 5, and also musc ravageur by Frederic Malle. If you like any of those perfumes you might love this perfume. I however feel like it smells too aldehydic for me or like an old furniture store, or kind of a dated dna to me. Maybe like dial soap + Chanel no 5 for me. Verdict- nope, not signature scent worthy for me.

I like this. Its not what i expected, i have never tried chanel 22, but i thought that this should smell a little bit like chanel no.5, i dont think it does. I think it smells a lot like Musk form Alyssa Ashley. Its a nice and simple, warm musc. And by simple i dont mean that in a bad way. Its just very classic and not complicated. Comforting, nostalgic and warm. Very nice.

A very pleasant powdery floral opening hovering over a woody vanillic base with a soft musk gently holding it all together. In style and form it bares some resemblance to SMN’s Mellograno of which I am also fond. A fragrance which lends itself to Spring and Summer and would brighten up a sunny day at the seaside perfectly.

Strongly aldehydic in the opening, followed by a sharp, soapy musk that dries down quite comfortably into a sensual, yet still vibrant vibe. Very much like concentrated essence of the original gold Dial deodorant soap. It’s quite powerful and long lasting, so be careful when spraying.

Straight up aldehyde bomb upon initial spray. It softens up for that clean, powdery musk that I love. It’s a good thing I like Chanel No. 5, because this is its baby sister!

Muschio d’Oro is an elegant and thoughtfully constructed fragrance whose story, unfortunately, is not mine. Its opening is a dense, powdery cloud of white flowers, iris, ylang-ylang, neroli, and lily of the valley. So think talcum powder, fine soap, fur coats, and mid-century theatre patrons. Beautifully crafted, but emotionally it’s projected mid-century feminine elegance. Zsa Zsa Gabor would wear this. After several hours, the noise finally recedes and a genuinely lovely base emerges: warm musk, cedarwood, tonka, and vanilla, soft and human and much more compelling. Ah, there you are. But for me the destination does not justify the journey because it’s buried under four hours of cosmetic theatricality. It is Madame de Pompadour by way of 1960s ballet night, and I admire it most when it belongs to someone else.

I've not smelled gold Dial soap before, but I do have (and love!) a lot of Chanels (especially the aldehyde-dominant ones). On me, this is VERY sour and very astringent. (No, my skin isn't dirty) I like aldehyde-dominant perfumes, I'm in love with No. 22, No. 5, Clair de Musc, etc, but this one is so bitter and unwearable. Not sure what this is - it smells a bit like old soap in a urinal. Soapy? Yes. Clean? No......... Recoiled at first spray onto my skin, but decided to give it a chance, and two hours later, I still hate it as much. Scent: Maybe it's just my chemistry, but try No. 22 instead if you want a bubbly soapy scent. Projection: Average Longevity: Unfortunately, average to good Polarity: No one should be wearing this

Lately I searched for soapy, musky, flowery scents. After 20 years of perfume obsession, that is where my soul leads me in the end. I am 72 now. Last year I liked highgrove bouquet very much. Also a soul jumper. Summer late August in the nord of europe; warm afternoon, golden light, Flowers and yellowing grass oozing zweet content. Then came the soaps. Santa Maria novella fresia, for mornings with no time to shower. Its fine. Naviglio milano fragranza was not nice. Soap, but dirty soapwater with a sour undertone, like my mothers laundry water at the end of the day. Then muschio oro. Soft and warm again with a free miracle. After an hour i got whiffs of the vintage guerlain meteorites. The most loved scène of my live. I don’t know what makes this happen. In never analyse nu scents. I will order a back up bottel.

Got this on my wrist to try and I thought oh that was nice as I left the shop I realized my nose literally glued to my wrist and I can't stop sniffing it lol it certainly has a shade of no.5 in there but it's not as sparkly more soft and muted and cozy. It is soap, musky, a tint of animalic underneath just tiny tiny bit. I went back and bought it lol

A long time favorite of mine, On first application it is very clean and shower fresh, however it is the transition I find amazing . Fallen autumn leaves wet after a downpour, in the first stage of decay, Petrichor perfection, earthy , dark and sensual. Would not be without it. Grandma soap? Not my experience.

Grandma's soap. If the idea sounds appealing then go ahead... Extremely clean white musk with a slightly metallic edge and an overall old-fashioned soapy vibe. So bright that I'm starting to suspect the presence of some aldehydes. Nose tingling. Rating: 5/10

I heard everywhere that this is Dial soap in a bottle. I told myself I wouldn't buy from this brand, as the price is too steep, but uh... it's happening anyway.

Reminds me a lot of baby powder or barbasol shaving cream - surprised by how much I love the powderiness of this

Calyx is exactly right. Gold dial soap ! In a good way .
