Atelier Noir

The opening of Atelier Noir can best be described, not by referencing the scent of any one particular fruit or flower, but by an actual color, what I'm going to call, a shade of "blackened violet". Not necessarily from Violets as in the flower or Blackberry, though this fragrance does indeed have nuances of both those notes, but by the very hue itself, an intense, satiny shade of "blackened violet". A coloring that is more "felt" or sensed, than seen or actually smelled. And it is from within this veil of "purply blackness" that slowly emerges the most enticing bouquet of bitter Hyacinths, dozens upon dozens of ruby red Roses, and a sweet, green-tinged, Lily of the Valley. All wrapped in an enveloping cocoon of rich Musk, gossamer-like aldehydes, vintage powder, a touch of dried fruit, and the grounding, earthy notes of Vetiver and Patchouli. But the real "Pièce de résistance" of this terrific composition is its extraordinary Rose accord, that is at once tenderly lifelike, like a just opened, dew kissed, garden rose, while simultaneously verging into the powdery, "cosmetics type" of lipstick roses that one often finds in beautiful classics like YSLs Paris. An exquisite, lesser known 80s vintage that is definitely worth hunting down, just gorgeous!

Found this 80s vintage beauty with its art Deco bottle. The EDP is gorgeous the Berry top note then it settles down into the most wonderful lily of the valley, hyacinth rose perfume, although it wasn't rose that I was expecting. Its going on my favorite rose list. Very Elegant and rich. It reminds me a little of Paris by YSL. It's a love

I found this bottle at the little perfume outlet from where I buy my discontinued fragrances weeks ago, I took three 4 bottles of this brand, which I had never heard of before, all different fragrances. Of course, being an outlet store, you can't test them, especially if they have them in limited quantities, because they don't have testers for it. So I buy all on "blind". I tested it first but it took me a long time to figure out how to describe it, I can't say I see the resemblence to Paris YSL, maybe just the melancholy and powder from it. If I had to describe this perfume simply, I would say that it is a linden and berries hot tea served in the fall near a window as you watch the leaves fall from the trees. It is a very personal perfume, it reminds me of the dreamy but cold attitude of a dear friend for which I bought a new bottle a few days ago and I can't wait to give it to her. It is not a perfume that will turn your head on and it does not propose to do that, but it is a pleasant and fine perfume who is covering you like a blanket.
