This is not a chilly, cold violet--it is beautiful and warm (as the other reviewer here aptly put it) and I can feel some of the berry-like nuances that ionones can have. Violet is definitely the dominant note, and everything else feels kind of indistinguishably there to support the violet, but there is citrus and some of the lift of aldehydes in the opening, some other abstract florals in the heart, and the drydown is green and mossy. While I can tell it was constructed to be marketed for women, it feels neither overtly feminine nor masculine.

A pleasure from opening to drydown. Inviting, cuddly, timeless. Fresh and clean, but not excessively soapy. The violet feels comparable to the powder/violet/iris notes in vintage YSL Paris, but Sumire is decidedly minimalist in nature. Refined, almost reserved chypre elegance that somehow remains totally charismatic and approachable. Just lovely.

Shiseido's most famous violet fragrance. In kanji, Sumire and violet are different plants, but they belong to the same family. In addition to both having deep purple flowers, Sumire can also refer to "violet color" (すみれいろ), a deep purple close to blue. The mist-like aldehyde fragrance is enhanced with heliotrope and musk to enhance the powdery feel, highlights the sweetness of the violet. It expresses the violet-iris theme alone, slender, romantic, elegant and gentle, more feminine. The typical Japanese style.

Take YSL Paris, remove the rose note, dial up the violet on the top for about 15 mins, dilute it to edc strength then you have this one.

This is a vintage cyphre. Could be unisex. Great sillage so far. Sparkly and bright and warm.
