Nightjar

I do find this to be one of the more appealing scents from this line, but there are some facets to it that have me scratching my head. Part of the problem with using a lot of naturals is that it's more difficult to tame them within a blend. Some individual materials are complex enough to function as a fully fledged perfume on their own, displaying a full sequence of notes that flicker in and out of view. I suspect that with a number of the Soivohle scents, there’s a great deal of work going in to wrangling the materials down to workable shapes, and at times the scents succeed in their restraint but there can be a few loose hairs remaining. Nightjar is a buttery floral scent—oily in fact. There’s a suede note threaded in that throws the composition’s balance out of sync as light florals up top are suspended over a heavy-duty balsamic leather and earth base. 70% of the time, this scent smells polite—natural, crisp, bright. The other 30% is either there to add interest or might simply reflect margins of error from working with untamed naturals. What I mean by this is that there are some really disturbing and questionable notes that emerge from the florals—a sour mimosa, for example, akin to what’s in Une Fleur de Cassie's. But it’s the bizarre imbalance that makes it feel most problematic—dirty, grimy leather with soft, powdery flowers scattered on top? Okay then! Despite these contentions, I do find Nightjar to be one of Soivohle’s better perfumes. The materials are lively and vivid, and the blend itself is adventurous without being psychotic or plain busted. It holds your attention and forces you to decode what’s going on. Occasional, sporadic wearing is probably the best approach for a scent like this.

FLORAL- NARCOTIC-LEATHER This is probably my least favorite fragrance from Soivohle I've tried. Smells like some sort of floral mixed with dirt. Maybe It's just my nose not picking up the beauty here, but I'll pass.
