Full Dark

Fig preserve. Honest to god it's all I can smell in this, that taste of a whole fig cooked with sugar into a drippy juicy seed-filled preserve. I love it. It also smells like a simplified take on Masque Tango. Tango performs better on my skin, keeps the complexity of the aroma for full 24+h. Tango adds some Civet-like stench to it though. Now this scent on steroids would be Amouage Opus IV. Bought all 3 in the end and I only keep using Amouage now..

This is a lovely oud rose combination. It is a softer version of the note combination, or as some might say a western version. Here the rose is fluffy and sweet, reminiscent of SS rose mallow cream, and the oud is softened by warm woods and amber. For reference, I would say this is along the lines of JM Velvet Rose and Oud and Lancome Oud Bouquet.

I ordered Full Dark as part of the Perfume Extrait Sampler - 5 Pack on the Solstice Scents website. I applied it from the small vial with a Q-tip. Probably not the most efficient way to use my sample and I didn't get the lasting power I hope would come with a full size. I really liked Full Dark after my first full day wearing it. It's definitely a leather scent, but there was enough sweetness somewhere within that it felt appropriate for a black top and jeans on a casual Friday at work. I sniffed my wrist a few times to guess at notes. I sensed wood but couldn't pinpoint the variety. I also guessed amber which turns out to be accurate now that I've checked my thoughts against the notes listed here. I really might like to order more of this for the days I ride my motorcycle or feel like being a little edgier. It's a great introduction to leather for anyone who tends toward more feminine fragrances. For reference, many of my favorite fragrances have the warm spicy accord. Full Dark is no exception.

I bought this for two reasons: 1) I adore Solstice Scents and the quality of the perfumes and 2) It looked like something that would challenge me.I’ve had Full Dark for almost a month. Full Dark is pretty far out of my wheelhouse for scents I usually like, and the first 45 minutes are pretty intense for me, but I love the drydown. Even my husband (who only likes Angel) and my teenage daughter like it.They both day it smells like incense. I do not get incense; primarily, I smell leather. A very strong, bitter leather and sharp musk in the opening. A softer leather, less potent musk, some Oud, and some rose in the drydown. It smells a lot better than I’m making it sound. The sillage is pretty huge for the first hour, easily arms’ length away, and longevity is about 6 hours before i have to bury my nose in my skin to detect it. Definitely give it a few hours’ wearing before coming to a conclusion on this. I’m glad I got It.

hm... big leather fan here so I thought I'd try this from the Solstice line. Not the least disappointed. It is a spicy, somewhat sweet interpretation with just enough oud to balance out the amber and make it more edgy. I agree with reviewier before saying it is a bit animalic which I actually like despite being sensitive to skanky stuff :) While the concept is not new, the delivery is excellent. It reminds me a bit of Molinard Cuir, another favourite and I'll validate this in future to see how they compare. Safe blind buy for leather fetishists :) Edit: maybe the sample rested, now it's a lot creamier, almost like a gourmand take on leather with amber and rose and totally nothing to do with Cuir.

i was hoping for more rose in this, which i don't get at all, but i still like it quite a bit. i get amber and spices primarily at first, then the musk, oud and leather comes forth. it dries down to a cozy warm woody musk. it reminds me a lot of manor, without the vanilla.

Rose is my favorite scent. It's hard to be done poorly. Well in this case, Angela St.John, figured that out. First you smell the rose scent, but the clove & leather, which should smell like half the real Gothic clubs in Detroit, instead smells more like a forest, wet grass, and tobacco. Not a good mix, not original, not unique, didn't care for at all.

Full Dark’s opening notes give the impression of a scent both heavy and heady, redolent of resins, rich, earthy leather, and a subtle, animalic note that lends to a musky sweetness as the scent warms on the skin, it’s a scent that somehow leaves me feeling remarkably light-hearted. During my childhood FL summers, we would at least once, usually around the fourth of July, make a visit to our Aunt’s mobile home park. We didn’t see her often, despite the fact that she only lived twenty minutes away (I don’t think she and my mother got along very well), so these trips were a rare treat. We’d spend all day in the lukewarm community pool packed with other kids like us, and their beleaguered parents, and then we’d dine on hot dogs and pretzels for supper, with a bowl of vanilla ice cream for dessert. The kind with the tiny, black vanilla-bean flecks in it–which I had never seen before, and for a 10-year-old kid, seemed pretty exotic. As the sun disappeared for the day, I would sit with my bowl of unadorned dessert–no chocolate syrup for me, thanks– a shabby old towel draped over my head, goose-pimpled and freezing in that remarkably efficient air-conditioning, and flipping through my uncle’s Playboy magazines, which apparently no one thought was weird and for which nobody ever scolded me. Once my swimsuit was no longer sopping wet, I’d step out onto the open carport, where the rest of my family was softly chatting and waiting for fireworks to light up the balmy evening’s shadows. As the chill faded from my small bones, and I drank the sweet, milky remainder of my ice cream from the bowl, I recall idly wondering about future summers and future me and where does it all lead? As the sky came alive, alight with the glittering explosions of infinite possibilities, I took my mother’s slender hand, and I felt her smile down at me in the darkness. Full Dark recalls for me those long ago evenings of warmth and sweetness and inextinguishable wonder.

I originally received a sample with my last order to Solstice Scents. I guess I like a challenge, because I was head over heels in Love at first sniff. Scents are so subjective, I am usually not a huge fan of Rose fragrances but this one is a deep, sexy rose. All of the other notes are my go-to's, the amber, the oud, the incense......OH MY!!!!It is highly wearable on me with good silage and 5-7 hours of good longevity. I may be nose blind after that time period because I have smelled it on my sweater a week after I wore it. Needless to say when I went to order a full bottle, all they had left was the 5ml oil extrait.I can't wait until they get this back in stock!For me, This is perfect because I don't like to smell like everyone else.My Husband calls it "Bottled sex". And he is not one to compliment me on my fragrance choices.I will definitely repurchase.

Woo, this is the REAL Mad Madame, what JHAG wishes they had to guts to make. WHEW- this is crazy animalic rose, and I might need a rollerball after my sample. It IS very challenging, and maybe Agent Prov and Mad Madame are just fine as they are, haha. A year of resting, agreed this gets creamier and the dark notes take on a dark chocolate vibe. Its gets better as it matures!

I get strong dirty resins that dry slowly to gorgeous wood and resin, softly smooth and slightly like powdered wood, fading to a powdery soft wood very much like Nasomatto Absinthe. After full dry down it is a lovely smooth comforting incense.
