Creation 1984

You never forget your first loves. This rule doesn't always ring true, but it sure shines here. I can't remember my first barbecue, or my first taste of chocolate. I couldn't tell you about my first pet, or the first time I smelled and splashed in the ocean. But fog dissipates with discussion of my first kiss, my first perfume, and well, let's just say, my first love. Isn't that something to consider? The amazing conductivity of perfume amongst other Dopamine inducing euphoria. Spectacular! My first perfume was a birthday gift when I was in 7th grade. A girl named Tiffany handed me a small, brown velvet pouch with "Mervin's" sashed across. Inside was a miniature bottle of Creation 1984. Absolutely stunned, I opened the ampule like I was uncorking the universe. The smell was amazing, and I felt so fancy, really for the first time in my life, and certainly for the longest time. Like other kids born into poverty, fantasies of upgrading into 'the better life', often consume our idle time. My trapped heart was no different. The irony was that I rarely wore it, believing that it was too glamorous for my every day rigors, and because of that, I still have the perfume today. Even further humor lies in my lack of research over what ignited a large part of my life; a passion that has led me here. I was going through my keepsakes with my daughter when it surfaced once more, and I nearly fell to my knees. As it was brought into the light, after decades of being carefully stored, my enthusiasm surged with youthful vigor. The list of ingredients are completely kitchen sink material. Is there anything Jean-Paul didn't put into the mix? On paper it looks manic! Every type of fragrance locked into one strong proposal. Arguments can be made for Chypre, Oriental, Fruity Floral, and the list goes on and on. Every website I've peered into, focuses on a slightly different pathway from another. Well blended, and topped with stronger aldehydic notes than I remember, further challenges any concrete definition. (I love that about this!) Creation 1984 crescendos into a hauntingly beautiful dry down experience, that I dare some of you "Smells of Grandma" reviewers, not to swoon over! This lives and dies in contradiction. Contrary powderiness sits comfortably next to pungent florals. Fresh and green tones are at ease being compared with dark, earthy notes. Dry woods enhance sweet tropical fruits, and animalic facets find balance with soapy bright aldehydes. Just like the amazing soup created in Ratatouille, it's not plausible, but by God, it works! I am left, forever in admiration and reverence. Still that girl who dared to dream of a more charmed life, and honed her strength through a multitude of tribulations. Satisfied and humbled by infinite gratitude for all the little things that have made my life memorable!.

This is one of the nicest, best designed and balanced perfumes I ever smelled. It goes actually beyond the concept of perfume many people have, as something meant to please others or even yourself in a social context and at a conscious level. For me, creation is an emotions perfume, and not because I associate it with any meaningful events of my past life. Contrarily to what some people say, I do not find it cheap at all. I just find it perfect. Cheap perfumes cannot usually afford to have so distinct and at a first contact maybe not that pleasant scent like this one, which from my viewpoint is at the same time quite particular and classical, and this due partly to its powdery texture. Also, depending on the atmospheric conditions and other factors, it does hardly smell twice exactly the same,due to its complexity. Funnily enough, I do not like particularly the smell of the note I find dominant in this perfume, which is bergamot, on its own. I do love it in this perfume, though, combined with mango, the way I also love, under the cover of the fruits, the beautiful tuberose, almost unrecognizable but somehow, I cannot explain how, opulently there. And they do have an effect on me, at an unconscious level, like a drug, actually, to the point of almost making me cry. I find it particularly suitable for a summer evening outdoors, while for example walking on the street. Disturbing is the word I find best describes this perfume. And the evolution is fantastic, from the fruity top notes to the animalistic drydown, which bears resemblance to Paloma Picasso and Magie Noire drydown, to a large extent, I believe, due to the civet, which nevertheless is not listed amongst the notes. I can understand that women tend not to like it that much due to the lack of sweetness in the drydown, and the fact that the smell of the flowers is so subdued. It is also quite strong, and the longevity and sillage are both good. Contrarily to other people, I also like the bottle, for being so compact, and nice to hold in your hand.For me it is the perfume of the dreams.

This stuff is just gorgeous..Really gorgeous and imho its so much better then Rumba. I love it because it really smell like the garden of Eden. Warm, floral, green, soothing and natural. Whilst it starts out quite heavy on the Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Patchouli and Galbanum. It really takes a turn and really starts to develop on your skin and it just radiates and gets bigger, like the opening of a flower. 5 mins in on warm skin and im getting the best Mango, Black Currant, Passionfruit, Bergamot, Peach, Neroli, Lemon and Mandarin notes..fresh! Not rotting. Sweet, but more honey sweet and I can't believe that honey isn't in this at all. And whoever the perfumer was has handled the peach, mango and passion fruit notes with absolute care. As usually I'm not a fan of these notes and I just don't enjoy them, but Creation is something else altogether. It is divine. A masterpiece! 30mins in is the part I love the most when the fruity notes calm down and then most gorgeous rose centric note run through creations veins and I am in heaven. I get some Carnation with the rest of the yellow and white floral notes. But they never ever take over. They just hum, like the sun on a warm fuzzy day. Dripping with nectar and honey.. all blending together so well; in complete harmony. I'm so sad to see the extortionate prices for this Gem on Evilbay but at the same time I understand why this stuff is just priceless. And I thank God that I have a 100mls vintage bottle that is still practically full for me to enjoy.. I'll never forget that I was blessed enough to buy it for £5 & will be sharing the little I have with others who might enjoy it too. As this is too good to keep all to myself for now.

The addition of galbanum to the fruit cocktail that opens Creation is exhilarating to me, accentuating the tart, the bitter, the sour that comes naturally to mango, passionfruit, and cassis. This is what makes it stand out to my nose: it is mouthwatering, and tropical in feel. Do not expect this to be anything like a modern fruity floral, however. It's as if it's a progenitor to Calyx, but still rooted in a 70s chypre hang-over, sharp, crisp and radiant yellow florals forming its nucleus. Most conspicuous to me is the big, wet narcissus and thick ylang-ylang, underlined with a gardenia creaminess and encased in the fruity tang. It is like a supernova for the nose. This one is LOUD, rock-n-roll loud, but I approve of it in that same take no prisoners sort of way as the iconic Miss Dior. Even as it wings its way in saturated, day-glo splendor, moss and musk funk it all up and it feels even more thrilling. It's all underlined green, nary a sweet spot can be detected by the nares. It is only in its last hours of presence on this skin that the tart, bitter, sour quenching power subsides to a dissolving dryness, beautifully subdued and feeling like powdery wood. This is quite a contrast to its preceding (and perfect) pungency, but it's a stimulating shift, one we so seldom get from modern releases that seek to pacify rather than penetrate. It must be experienced! [Original version, not re-launch]

This is such a good chypre! I mostly get cassis, davana, white floral, carnation, and oakmoss. I know cassis is only listed on the modern spray version, but it comes to mind because this scent is simultaneously sweet, fruity, herbal, and extremely green. It's not overbearingly sweet, but just enough to avoid feeling soapy. This also has a side that’s bitter and peppery, like orange blossom or neroli, making for a rather powerful opening characteristic of the 80s. To me aromatic florals define the decade, as Estee Lauder Beautiful was one of the only scents my mom wore (along with big floofy hair and high-waisted jeans, of course). Once dried down, it becomes just right, a very cool and aloof scent that releases its floral sweetness in the summer heat. Compared to newer chypres, I like that this is so assertive, more earthy/woody than fresh/floral, and not too citric or fruity. Creation isn’t afraid to dunk you headfirst into the atmosphere of a rainy garden filled with overripe fruit. This is a definite vintage, and won’t appeal to everyone, but all it takes is a calm manner or retro clothing to pull this off. The best thing about the 1984 version is its strength-- I'm pretty sure the 4ml mini is a parfum, because a few drops will scent the air around me. Since this is so strong, less is more, and it fades away quite beautifully.

Ted Lapidus Creation: This was a total shock & surprise to me,just how beautiful this Perfume really is!! & being of the Chypre Family of perfumes it's a sure winner already for me!! On First Spray it kind of reminds me of Christian Dior's Original Miss Dior which I absolutely adore!! It's exceptionally well constructed & perfectly balanced with all the right amounts of everything in it including that gorgeous green oak moss aroma which really brings this Perfume to life!! It's Woody,Green,Mossy,Earthy (Patchouli) White Floral,& Aromatic & really well done & blended!! I actually wore this yesterday & was actually surprised just how much I really enjoyed it,& liked it & it lasted a good 9hrs on my skin too!! It also brought me many compliments & one person asking is that Original Miss Dior I was wearing!! Indeed if you like/use any of the perfumes listed as I do?,Then your sure to fall in love with this one also & very much will want to add it into your perfume collection!! This deffo is a very classy well made perfume that deserves good recognition!! Perfectly Gorgeous in everyway!! Another Sure Winner From Ted Lapidus For Me as all his perfumes seem to be made from the highest quality ingredients!!

@nexangelus :) I know what you're going through. Just bought a part of a large collection of vintage perfumes. I feel blessed and troubled at the same time. All these little unique pieces of jewelry; where do I get a full bottle and how am I gonna pay for all of them? Because this isn't the first and won't be the last! I immediately LOVE Creation after applying. It’s strong, gorgeous oak moss, warm and fresh and it promises a good time to come. I don’t get any fruits as listed in the opening (perfectly fine with me) besides the freshness of green notes. It develops rather quick into a bit dirty, dry and dusty (not yet powdery) scent, I like this stage very much. It's like being almost home after a heavy day at the office, time to let it all go and relax. When the flower mix starts, it's like all blooms open up. It's rich, clean, soft, mild sweet, it gets creamier by the minute and now it’s powdery! To me this is a womans scent pur sang, this is what makes me happy. Very suitable for lazy late afternoons and evenings, soft light, a good glass of red wine and Chopin. Just bought a 100ml bottle, because I'm worth it ;)

My Mum and I shared a mini of this scent back in the late 1980's (I bought a set of designer minis on a shopping channel). It was more my style than hers, as this had a very heavy/syrupy fruity topnote, which then developed a rich floral bouquet, mixed with a strong oakmoss that dominated the slightly powdery/musky drydown. I agree with some other reviewers who smelled a slight touch of honey and cannabis, as well. This perfume lasted over 12 hours, and had a rather overpowering sillage, not that I objected, since I prefer strong scents. Too bad Lapidus Creation has been reformulated. I have not tried the new version, but have heard it's good, just not exactly the same.

I'm enchanted. This is surprisingly harmonious blend of dirty patchouli, inky oakmoss, tart herbs, and currant leaf — it's a perfect pickling set, perfect for men's jam, not yet ready to be jarred, but exuding freshness. This opening conceals the honeyed, bittersweet warmth of the base. In my youth I ignored perfumes of this style, and indeed, all the complex, psychedelic, and glamorous perfumery of the 80s and 90s. It's interesting to get to know it now in the second and final half of my life. Perhaps this will become my favorite perfume.

It might not replace my almost empty bottle of Coty Chypre ( from 80's ) but that oakmoss in my early formulation homely bottle is beckoning me to adventure. I picked up green notes followed immediately by the oakmoss. No fruit, no florals, no bitterness, just fresh notes to accompany me for a walk on the beach next trip to the Texas Gulf coast. This fragrance just wrapped itself around me like an old friend. We've been friends before.

totally agree olga about the bottle. this fume is very unique but a little old fashion,i dont smell any fruit,very strong narcissus and gardenia,base notes are masculin a bit but lovely vanilla made them soft. a long time ago mom wears this,creation is very special for me:)

cigarettes, ashtray (dark moss note) + honey + an adhesive tape note (vinyl? some kind of wood - I don't know but I love it). Color: myrtle green.

Like a novel or a play that doesn't make much sense until the ending, this is all about the dry down for me over these first few outings. The opening and into the heart are... interesting. And interesting is an interesting adjective - if you know what I mean. Overall the progression is thoughtful yet thought provoking - not carefree. But suddenly, on my skin, everything starts falling into place at about the one hour mark. And this I find to be the true heart -- which is quite extended -- leading into a base which truly comes into its own remaining self around three hours or so after first application. Impressive longevity of development! I read mention of this shining particularly well in high humidity and where I am this July evening the hydrometer reading is hovering around 85% at about 35°C, and I concur, this feels right at home in a mossy swamp setting. Lest I come across deprecatingly in this description let me assure any wayward wanderer that this wetland is redolent with flowers, fragrant woods, & fruits -- and quite unexpectedly tropical fruits to be precise. It almost works... almost. I can't decide if this is an intentional attempt at tasteful discord or simply an accidental indiscretion on the bayou. Which brings me to the image that is being conjured in my olfactive eye -- something Antebellum but nearer the Tropic of Cancer... ? 'Wide Sargasso Sea'? or is it 'One Hundred Years Of Solitude'? But it feels more intimate than that. Scarlett & Rhett on honeymoon in New Orleans? No. It's too bucolic for nights out on the tiles and swank tables for two. Or come to think of The Big Easy, perhaps Blanche DuBois would have a bottle in her handbag? But then again, perhaps not. Too bold for Miss Blanche. Or is it Maggie the Cat attempting to hold on to herself & her husband at that insufferable family BBQ!? Well... it's green and it's fecund -- 'Creation' is ALIVE! Having followed this train of thought I now can't quite think when I would wear this as I haven't any picnics penned in my diary at present. Perhaps a hot summer evening's stroll in the park will suffice. 'Creation' is giving me inspiration. Full yet soft. Rich and yet... counterintuitively light. Again, once the confusion of the upper notes settles, the base is roundly rewarding. I stumbled upon a perfectly sealed, (extremely faded) boxed & stored 30ml which I'm guessing is a good 25 years old -- it's the 80's cream coloured plastic capped semi-lozenge shaped bottle in EDT strength. Well, fiddle-dee-dee... such an unexpected dog days delight. ★★★☆☆

creation was the perfect name for this creation ,its a true creation an amazing fragrance reminds me of the good old days when a perfume was still true and magnificent..maybe a bottle of this magical potion is enough to make a hundred of the new perfumes we see these days that we can hardly even smell them 2 min after spraying them' creation has a history a presence its a sharp flowery woody oriental french oh my its everything in a perfume yes its complicated yet simple lots and lots of notes that some times can all be used as main accords, 10 years ago i could never use it now that my sense has become bolder i m thinking of using it this winter ..its a loud unique composition its very warm very hmmmmmmmmmmm its a perfume that you must smell for its too much too much of everything bu its a perfumers perfume ..everyone will notice you it reminds me of Montana the blue one..in its intensity. its a happy floral chypree woodsy musky amber y vanilla with a bouquet of flowers even some gourmand and fruits make it luscious delicious memorable..its an amazing value for a buck..i mean where can you find something that smells this deep and wonderful for about 30 us $..people will compliment you every time you ware it ..its a full perfume preferably worn in winter at night for special occasions or every where you want to be noticed and remembered it could easily be used as a signature perfume for it has a character unlike any other it develops wonderfully .. perfume ratting 4.4 out 5 bottle ratting 3 out 5 perfume concentration edt vaporisateur

(Tall oblong EDT vintage): A rich galbanum & moss based chypre, tragically shot through with a heavy dose of "passionfruit/mango" aromachemical that unfortunately ends up reading "rotten fruit" on me. I can envision the 1984 process behind this, whereby somebody decided to "update" a beautiful, but traditional chypre base with obnoxious 80s day-glo "modern" in the form of the pungent fruit note. One spritz evokes Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" or Culture Club's "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" color saturated videos. That flourescent passionfruit/mango is probably why this never took off along with other over-the-top 80s classics. Like football player shoulder pads and Boy George's eye makeup, it's just too much. Vintage Creation is quite similar to Rumba, which Lapidus apparently acquired from Balenciaga. But Rumba's "passionfruit" note blends better with its honey sweetness, and mercifully fades relatively quickly. Rumba's drydown shades more to incense & candlewax, where Creation's is pure "dirty" mossy chypre perfection reminiscent of Magie Noire's. I still wear it when the weather's humid and the rotten fruit note disappears faster, because the high-quality galbanum and moss are beautiful on their own. If you like that "passionfruit/mango" note, grab the vintage version of this while it's cheap.

Creation has hold a special place in my heart for some time now. That's a difficult scent to love, but if you do love it, you can't do without it. Having admitted to love it, I still have to live through the first five-ten minutes of loud and crowded notes, that seem to want to talk to you all at the same time. What I impatiently wait for and really love is a middle stage and most of all - drydown. I like how masterfully fruit notes appear in the middle stage - peach and black currant among by now more mellow carnation, daffodil and galbanum. But my favourite part is the bitter drydown, oakmoss with a touch of rose and gardenia. It's perfect for wearing in autumn, on me that's the time when Creation sound divine, like it should. I cannot remember wanting to wear it in summer, in my book it's a totally wrong time for this scent, this one doesn't go along with heat and green leaves, melancholic golden autumn and crisp air before winter - that's the time to wear Creation.

I bought this blindly based on Fragrantica reviews and because there was a good deal at one Indian website where it was available for 18$ (100ml). The pack arrived and I was taken aback....it smelled just like one of the ättars that I have smelled on a lot of people from Middle East. It was super heavy and strong smell that threatened to give me a headache. Also there was a very dominant spicy-bitter note - I guess its oakmoss because the perfume pack says "Oakmoss extract" but not 100% sure. Was certain my wife wouldn't like it because she has migraine issue and hence strong smelling perfumes are a No-No. However, to my surprise, she liked it, and has already started wearing it. I guess its the fact that it provides a good woody contrast to the existing floral perfumes that she has (Nina Ricci Premier Jour, Elizabeth Arden Splendor), and maybe it reacts better on her skin compared to mine, where it emits only one particular note (I guess the basenote) throughout.

I purchased an 80's decant as I remembered my first boyfriend bought me a bottle and I recalled it being uniquely distinctive and powerful. Wearing it now is like listening to an old favorite song I'd forgotten over time, but the passion hadn't faded. Creation is bold and fierce and commanding, with a signature essence that is like no other. It is bright and shining like white and yellow diamonds in the sky, and leaves a comet trail of alluring fragrance behind you that cannot be ignored. An absolute luxury flex. There seems to be a lot of vintage bottles available on the market for a decent price point, so this may be the time to scoop some up. The first time I put this on my husband said "I REALLY like that - it smells very YOU.", which inspires me to reach for it more. My husband of course has excellent taste.

This was a blind buy, like many of my perfumes. Seeing that Oakmoss is at the top of the scent list, along with a long list of ingredients, that excluded animal scents and minimal wood, I bought it ... and was I ever surprized. I absolutely love it. It's a bit stronger than your usual current new perfumes, but I love the 1980's complex and rich perfumes. It is so well blended. It's a beautiful combination of flowers and woodsy Oakmoss with a touch of vintage perfume scent. There is a touch of a soapy scent, but very minimal .. how different each of our noses is ... I don't smell any passion fruit or mango. I find it lasts for hours. Highly recommend it. If you like K de Krizia or Ungaro Diva (it's not as flowery and strong as Diva), you will love this.

There's oakmoss galore in this scent from '84. And I'm experiencing it differently here than in most of the other perfumes I have with it. The oakmoss is much more prominent to me in the opening than later, and it's practically all I can smell for the first hour. Nice because I love oakmoss, but unusual in my experience. Because of this, I notice that it takes longer than usual for the middle notes to become more apparent, but after about an hour the oakmoss settles down so I notice the mild sweetness of the fruits and florals. It makes me think of a person who looks very serious and almost too prim, until they smile an hour later so you can relax around them. Even if you don't plan to wear it, it's a good one for oakmoss collectors.

Starts out with aldehydes, melon-y, tropical fruits, and green notes with a smooth, watery texture. It evolves into an animalic, honeyed chypre floral based around powdery yellow floral notes and tuberose. Carnation is agreeable in perfumes because it adds a touch of rounded softness. The oily sandalwood base is intensive, but the deep woody, earthy notes are well incorporated and help me appreciate the scent. This perfume is seamless, immaculately blended. Warm but fresh, earthy but clean. For me not a love, but I'm surprised by how much I enjoy it. A Miss Dior (1947) recast for the (1984) woman; every bit as strong, but louder and a tad fruity.

I bought a mixed bundle of perfume on ebay and there was a 10ml bottle of Creation Parfum in the lot. Based on the ebay prices, I never thought of this perfume as expensive so I never bothered giving it a try. Tonight I opened the top and put a drop on my skin. I have to say it was very strong at first but an hour later, WOW! Still strong but in a beautiful way. This is not cheap perfume at all. No headache here. I am getting a green powdery soft floral. Absolutely gorgeous scent. I like it a lot and will give it a 2nd chance! I do recommend this in cold weather in the evening, it is that kind of perfume!

I like Creation, but I don't love it. One lesson I learned - put it directly on your skin - never spray a cloud. That helps to keep it from being overwhelming. That makes it inexpensive to wear since it lasts a long time. People who have allergies or are just sensitive to dry scents can find it from annoying to miserable to be around if it is too strong. I have friends I would never subject to it, especially if we were going to be in a car together as I know it would bother them. I have a male friend who loves it and gives it to me, so I wear it for him.

I came to the conclusion that only someone who has a cold, unapproachable kind of beauty could really pull this one off in public. There is something very arrogant about it sharpness, nothing warm. As for me, I only wear it as far as the front door of the house.And although I appreciate its unique composition and there are days that this is the type of scent i need, I am afraid others might find it too overwhelming. I would recommend it only for the purpose of experiencing this unique perfume, and who knows you might more than like it!

This is not a floral fruity, this is a very very strong Chypre. In the beginning I loved it, then I changed my mind, and now I am in doubt. The perfume is VERY unique, daring and extreme. It might suit a power women wanting to communicate 'watch out..'. You would have to be in total ease with yourself and no real doubts, then you might pull this off!

Strong oakmoss and narcissus in the opening, some fruit notes, musk and spices - what's not to like here? Vintage Creation is a lovely, feminine perfume with good sillage and lasting power. Work safe with light application, C. is beautiful all year long. Somewhat similar to Diva by Ungaro, but with better lasting power.

This is a very unique and daring scent. Definitely not for everyone, but I like it. I just wish they got rid of that crappy looking bottle with a plastic top....the mini looks just gorgeous, but the large packaging leaves much to be desired. Sticks out in my collection like a sore thumb.

I had to have this since I was born in 1984 and this is called Creation 😂 To me this smells very much like Niki de Saint Phalle. I need to check them side by side... but if you like one, you'll probably enjoy the other. Also reminiscent of Halston Classic.

Crowd and loud in the beginning. It’s like all the notes here (oakmoss, fruits, galbanum, and flowers) scream at the same time. Similar experience with Rumba Balenciaga. Thankfully the drydown is more delicate with obvious ylangylang existence.

I would not say this to be like Paillettes. Paillettes by Coveri more goes in the manner of a classic leather scent like Trussardi for women and Creation is more Miss Dior.

They finally repackaged it into a gorgeous bottle! I wonder if they tweaked the juice too to make it a bit more wearable.

A unique floral cypher, and in reviewing the parfum, I agree it is incredibly strong. In the beginning, I don't get any fruits in the parfum...what I detect are florals with a touch of honey. Mostly I smell the notes of gardenia, tuberose, daffodil, ylang-ylang, musk, sandalwood, and patchouli. The fruits of peach and some citrus emerge later for me as the fragrance develops. Sillage is mega ultra strong, and could knock someone over. On the right person, I imagine it could be lovely but sadly...this one is not for me. I found it to be to harsh.

It is not a floral fruity fragrance! It is actually really heavy chypre fragrance that reminds me of a great-great-grandmother perfume coffret :-) Smells really outdated, soapy, causes a great migraine-nausea-alike feeling. It is long lasting though - I could not get rid off it from my wrist even though I used half a soap bar :-) Reminded me a bit of Byzance by Rochas. Both are equally heavy and I wouldn't give it away as a present even to my mother in law :-)

The notes give an impression that it's amazing and unique one, but practicaly, there is something strange in it's smell. it is not too feminine, but nice smell. very very very long lasting power. I find this perfume is suitable for work place, sporty day, or going shopping, cause you need long lasting perfume and not seductive(this is in my opinion).

I got a little mini bottle of Creation to refresh my memory about it. Well...the top note are a bit harsh, the heart is delicious - bitter wild herbal honey, with undertones of evergreens and ferns - but the base did not seem very interesting for me and reminded me of some chypre men`s cologne,

This one is not only too mossy for me but also way too fruity and way too green. At the same time there is something charmingly soapy about it, but I'm still putting it as a dislike simply because I would never, ever wear it (perhaps if it were the last perfume in the world).

Most of all I feel the tuberose, the neroli, the moss, the patchouli and woody notes in this fragrance. I don't like it. It smells horrible to my nose.

I got it from a friend, I know why, because this perfume smells like blurk and more blurke.. Spend your money on something else

Creation was is a charming sweet fruity floral chypre I have a splash bottle of this beauty and it always pleasures my nose. If you like fruited fragrances in the style of Chopard's Casmir or Rumba by both Lapidus and Balenciaga, Femme by Rochas or Champagne by Yves Saint Laurent you would thoroughly enjoy this fragrance. The bottle is a glass decanter with stopper that you can turn upside down to apply the perfume on your pulse points. I did just that and it always brought me attention. My late last husband, a symphonic conductor, loved this perfume on me. It's for day wear and for casual luncheons but there is a bit of semi formality to it. Creation matches up with cocktail dresses sundresses and pretty day wear clothing. It's a summer time scent. The opening is a delicious forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. I thought perhaps they are calling it Creation to remind us of the first Garden, Original Sin, Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit. There is a sweet citrus courtesy of mandarin oranges, and bergamot and lemon, the usual citric notes that I enjoy. The neroli is also quite heady and smells rather good in this perfume. The passion fruit currant and peach and mango provide it with a tropical air, similar to Balenciaga's Rumba. Sweet, fruit cocktail booze. At the heart of Creation are lovely soapy floral notes with as many flowers as could be thrown into a 1980's vintage fragrance. This dates back to 1984. I remember wearing it in the mid 80's around 1985 and 1986 in the summer time. I even brought the mini bottle with me on a trip to Rome. The floral notes are exquisite jasmine, banana buttery ylang, powdery rose and iris flower, sweet green carnation and lily of the valley and a narcissus and tuberose. I would have called it a white floral scent as it does have sufficient white flowers in it like jasmine, gardenia, narcissus, lily of the valley, but for me the iris and carnation are the strongest of the floral notes. If you're familiar with carnation and iris duos, you know what I'm talkin about. These are pretty potent florals and they certainly project. Superb sillage and longevity, as one would expect from a 80's power perfume. Beautiful. Just beautiful. At the dry down the base notes come to the forefront and turn the fragrance into a mossy chypre perfume. The oak moss is indeed noticeable. Lovely green moss. A patchouli herbal scent mingles with green grass and vetivers. The green garden theme is very well rendered. In the top notes the one note which continues to lurk in the background is another big green note: galbanum. I adore galbanum and when paired with moss you get such a beautiful fragrance if you are fond of green notes. It's almost bordering on smelling like Eden by Cacharel but less aquatic. It's green and floral and reminds you of a tropical jungle, of a paradise somewhere man has not yet reached in all his time on the planet. A pristine unexplored virgin green world. The driest portion is amber and sandalwood of high caliber. This is a very aromatic and amazing perfume. I have nothing but fond memories of this fragrance and I wish that it were still selling in stores. You can find the vintage bottles on eBay.

A woman whose high cheekbones are swept up high by blush, whose lips are shaped with creamy mauve lipstick, walks down Market Street. Clack, clack, goes her high heel pumps. Clang, clang, goes her big gold tone dangly earrings. She is unapologetic as she enters the crowded elevator with her cloud of Creation by Ted Ladipus. She is a woman of the 80s. In those days, people did not seem to be self conscious about wearing perfume. The perfume was extra loud, and everyone was in on it. Most people just thought it was part of life to have to smell other's perfume, just like they thought it was part of life to have to smell cigarette smoke. Well, things have changed. Smoke is not tolerated in many public places now, and big perfumes could earn you the same dirty look. I am very careful about what perfume I choose to wear outside of my house, because if I don't, I end up restricting my movement on public transportation, hoping that keeping still will reduce my perfume's assault on other people's noses. So, I find myself using more timid perfumes that I feel would not offend anyone. Oh, how I miss the 80s when I frolicked around with Magie Noire as a teen. VINTAGE 80s MINI: Creation is a sweet loud floral with somewhat of a masculine base, from the vetiver. The sweetness is the heavy resinous kind. Not cute or fruity. The florals, are again, the heavy kind, contributed by the tuberose, patchouli, and carnation. The spiciness comes from the load of base notes, especially from the oakmoss and vetiver. Of the 80s perfume creations, Creation is not my favorite. (Yes, pun.) There were quite a few masterpieces that came from that era, and this one only fits in as a standard perfume of the times, I think. But I appreciate it just for being a good ole 80's frag that sticks to skin, emits fragrance all around, and turns many contemporary noses away. I dare not wear this one in this day and age, but for those of you who do, good for you! Go blast their noses off!

I just smelled my mini of this for the first time. I like it. I am wondering if the formula has changed, I love the mini fragrance but wonder if the full size will be as potent! It reminds me of many other classic and vintage perfumes. Creation takes me on a journey to the past and other fragrances keep coming to mind, some I know and have worn, others I may have smelled on other people in the past or tested, I just keep smelling my arm and drifting off into a reverie of past moments. Creation smells like "perfume" not distinct but fleetingly different, like a butterfly going from flower to flower. It always smells like perfume to me even as it evokes so many memories. There is no gourmand quality or spice, fruit or even flowers. Everything is blended together and it smells like "perfume" with a classic and sometime common place perfumes come through, like "Intimate" by Fabrege or some of the Old Avon perfumes. It is such a warm, rich perfume scent, comfortable and very intimate, I would wear this for myself and drift off peacefully!

Reviewing a vintage splash EDT bottle approx. 1984-1987 from the original production. Creation was later reformulated in 2011 and this later version although different is still available. The perfumer behind the original 1984 Creation by Ted Lapidus is Jean-Pierre Weil. Creation is a luscious fruity/green/floral chypre powerhouse manifestation of the more is more 80's. Creation is known for it's brilliant fruity - galbanum opening. Lusciously juicy but at the same time elegant burst of greenness, aldehydes and fruit. Sunny and happy but not sweet or cloying. The florals that follow are buffered by the fruit and the complex aromatic base allowing the fragrance to come across as unisex. Surprisingly versatile. Quality 5/5- excellent materials and blending. Unisex Performance 5/5 it is an EDT that performs as an EDP Creation is a dynamic cornucopia of fruit, florals and aromatics culminating in a rich decadent base. Instead of a mishmash ,it is a coherent optimistic fragrance coming from a time when the future seemed bright. 9/10

A classic perfume, brought to your pituitary from other decades, which, although it may be somewhat anachronistic to many noses, is no less beautiful for that reason. Creation is a textbook floral-fruity chypre that, to my nose, is much friendlier than most of its contemporaries. It has so many notes that it is difficult to describe but, for me, its protagonists are the ylang-ylang, which sweetens the floral bouquet, the honey, which surrounds the composition providing even more sweetness, the fruits, which appear amalgamated and ripe, and oak moss, which gives it that particular character of this family of perfumes. It has a quite notable sillage and lasts between 7 and 8 hours on my skin. How nice it is to wear Creation and remember so many women in my life who wore all these fragrances back in the days when they were the latest fashion! Although strong and sharp, Création is very romantic. I remember a lady violinist who used to wear this perfume when we were colleagues. Now she is retired but I still can smell this scent when I think of her. I had the impression that this fragrance was made from red, Chinese flowers. Pure illusion! The strange ingredient that used to make me so happy was the passion fruit. In fact it was the combination passion fruit and blackberry. What more? A hundred million jasmine petals. If you are inclined to scents with personality, don't miss this "merveille"!

Ted Lapidus' Creation is a hard and rough green floral chypre. There is a range of sweet floral and fructal notes in this blend as well, ...but it is that deep greenness (galbanum oakmoss, cassis, etc.) that will be remembered. An earthy edge of vetiver is also present, but surprisingly, no civet is listed. For greenery fanatics this might really be a find. I can't think of another fragrance that quite matches this; certainly neither Boucheron nor Cabochard. The greenness of Niki Saint Phalle comes close, but Niki is also much mintier.

This fresh floral chypre is a very busy and interesting perfume. The fruity top, floral heart, and dominant base create a very 80s composition. I like it, but can't say it is perfectly balanced. It has great longevity, and has a strange marijuana note that starts int he heart and continues into the base. The base also contains civet (likely synthesized), not noted above, which in combination with the patchouli and orris could create this effect. It is dated, but, by all means, very good-and dirt cheap!

Floral fruity? Ehhh. Not by the current definition. Creation does have both fruits and florals though. Just paired with a massive amount of oakmoss and vetiver. The opening is very strong on the peach, mango and passion fruit. It makes for quite an interesting combination with the bitter, woody facets in Creation. Though there is something honey-like in the drydown, Creation still remains woody and slightly bitter throughout. It's quite a unique and enjoyable fragrance. It's a fruity chypre in my book.
