Naked

I really love this fragrance for when I'm wanting to wear a soft, skin scent. People compare it to Glossier You but I honestly like it more than Glossier You and I think it definitely has it's own identity. This scent is addicting, I just want to keep smelling myself. And it does have a small cloud around me where I get whiffs throughout the day. It fades after about 4 hours but I could still smell it if I put my nose right up to my wrist at the end of the day. I've smelled and worn Skin by Clean, 11:11 by Lake and Sky, You by Glossier, Missing Person by Phlur, etc and Naked by The Maker is my current favorite. To me, it's the most intentionally and delicately blended of the bunch. I just find it unique, addictive, and special.

I really love this scent. It is mysterious, light and inviting. I think of a light mauve or pink color as I smell it. It’s a delightful, steady hum throughout the day. Upon first spray, I see why it’s labeled “powdery,” while not the most pleasant part of the perfume, it reminds me of the latex glove smell at the dentist office. I’m not sure why I still love it so much even with that aspect of it. I just keep wanting to hug myself and go within. I think it’s got great projection and staying power for what it is — something to wear casually any day at any time.

I sprayed this on my arm and, as I was waiting for it to dry down, I was hit with immediate nostalgia. There is an unmistakable similarity to the sadly discontinued Gucci II. I still have a small amount left of that in my cabinet and, sure enough, they are similar. I’m not sure what it could be as the notes listed on fragrantica don’t match—I also remember Gucci II having a pink pepper note (which isn’t listed on fragrantica but is there in the fragrance.) Anyway—I don’t know what the hate is here—this is so beautiful and I’m going to be needing a full size.

Agree with the below comment- no pickles here, just ambery leathery orris. (Side note: I am one of those people who smell pickles with Santal 33 for example, but definitely not with this one). I thought it was underwhelming at first, but the more the smell lingered on my wrist, the more I liked it. It’s chalky, dry, and vegetal. It reminds me a lot of M01 + Iris , except this one is a bit brighter and spicier. If you’re a skin scent lover and an orris lover, this one’s for you.

Smells like a department store on first sniff. Then, I started thinking about expensive hardcover books, clean skin, and sitting close to someone with my heartbeat going crazy. It's nice and familiar in a way that's pretty indescribable - nondescript, inoffensive. The dry-down is the best part: a sweet musk. It's hard to pick out separate notes. The more I smell the more I fall in love... I splurged on the discovery set and this is my clear favorite of the bunch.

the most gorgineeeee skin scent. maker really outdid themselves with this one! the notes are so unique, it really does create an olfactory experience all in itself. it's transporting me to an old library with mahogany tables, but at the same time i'm at a boutique hotel in some european country with a lover. pretty unisex, gives a super sexy/mysterious vibe. 10/10!

Pickles?? Ash? What? Not what I smell AT ALL. In fact, I love this scent so much that I think it's worth the purchase of a full bottle. It does smell powdery, but that's not a bad thing, IMO. It smells a bit leathery and ambery to my nose. It doesn't have much sillage, but the longevity is definitely there, at least on my skin.

this was a lovely, sweet but not too sweet and fresh scent, very light and not overpowering, i enjoyed it!

I bought the discovery set to try all The Makers’s perfumes, because they all sound amazing to me and the whole brand is very intriguing. I have to say, i love their catalog, there is not a single fragrance i would say is actually bad. I really wanted to love Naked, because i need some quiet, personal skin fragrances to work, but it’s not a love it’s just a nice scent. I had high hopes for this, because usually i like pink pepper, orris, and tangerine in fragrances and even carrot (at least in the other 2 i can remember of). Naked starts very pink pepperish and bitter earthy/green on me (which i think probably is the angelica root, but i’ve never smelled angelica). The beginning is very similar to BDK: 312 Saint-Honoré, both 312SH and Naked fading into a less spicy, creamier scent. What my main problem is with Naked that it stays rather green and earthy. It’s familiar and cozy but more like a memory if how my grandmother’s place and clothes smelled in a dark and quiet november afternoon. It’s melancholic. I can’t feel the tangerine and this is what it lacks: something fruity or sweet, just a tiny bit to make it more youthful and a bit more joyful. It gets creamier and warmer tough, but only as much as iris/orris can be. But it has definitely gotten softer and nicer as i wrote this long review! In comparsion, 312SH is more chich with the neroli and it has tonka bean, which makes it soft, warm and cozy and imo makes it the perfect not boring elegant/office skin scent. Naked is lovely, i would be happy if someone gifted me a bottle, but for me not as lovely to worth the price tag.

I knew from the moment I first smelled this that I was going to love this! I don't think this is for everyone so definitely sample first if you can. This, on me, is a soft and powdery, and it has this slightly green feel. The blend of carrot and orris and papyrus is just perfect, a little dusty but that's actually what I enjoy about it. It reminds me a lot of .Oddity's Naked Dance which is one of my favorite fragrances of all time. This is the type of profile I enjoy, and although this does stray away from the more bold fragrances I gravitate towards, it fits the category of comfort fragrances for me, like the ones I'd reach for on a rainy day or a day in, cozying up with my husband and a movie. It brings me comfort and I can't deny that lovely feeling it brings. This mostly feels fit for those light airy seasons like Spring and Fall but I do think thanks to the Tangerine note, it can also be pulled of on a mild summer day. The Maker has impressed me once again!

Not sure what everyone else is smoking or if it's just me, but this smells great! This is a rare example of a "your skin but better" scent that actually smells good on my skin. When I first spray this on, I get the soft scent of leather. Specifically, it smells like a new leather couch. Then it evolves into something more warm, a little spicy and clean - very similar to Diptyque Fleur de Peau but not as strong. After all, that stuff is absolutely nuclear. I once sprayed it on a jacket, put it in my closet and my whole room smelled of FDP for weeks! Thankfully, this is a softer version of that same scent profile. I do get a little bit of the carrot sometimes, but nothing green. It's very much a clean musk with pink pepper. And in the drydown, it becomes creamy. Almost like a hint of vanilla. I like Fleur de Peau, but this is better in my opinion. At over AU$300 for a 50ml bottle however, the price makes me shudder.

Powdery, spicy, fresh fragrance. Pretty much straight up powdery orris, carrot, and pink pepper. I can see the comparison to Glossier You, but I like You better. This fragrance has a bit of a baby powder quality to it which is not a smell I’m crazy about. That being said this is still a nice and pretty fragrance! By itself it smells a little basic, but I think it would layer beautifully with a lot of other fragrances to add just a little bit of fresh spice. This actually has a stronger projection than I was expecting. I only sprayed this on my wrists and could smell it in the air around me for about 3 hours, then by hours 4-5 it had faded into a skin scent. I asked my bf what he thought and he said to him it smells basic and he also had a much harder time detecting it than I had. 6/10

This is the perfect smell for when I want to smell good but plain. After smelling so many scents over the last three years, I'm finally starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by fragrance. This one is pleasant in that it could just be a nice-smelling laundry detergent. I don't find the sillage or longevity to be worth the price, tbh, but I guess the weakness is what makes it appealing to me right now. I really like the carrot and white musk. It works well on my skin.

Verrry similar to Glossier You. I’ve always been surprised You doesn’t have pink pepper listed as a note like this one does. It is a less intense version of You though, & for the cost, I wouldn’t splurge on this one. It doesn’t have as good of longevity.

Powdery, velvet, intimate. I love this sooo much but it’s because it reminds me of my beloved Fleur de Peau. They’re so similar I couldn’t justify having them both at the same time. :(

A lovely scent. Soft, bare like clean skin with a mild spicy waft. Just too pricey for the performance. It sits very close to the skin.

Very underwhelming. Maybe a throwaway fragrance The Body Shop launched in the 2010s that got discontinued a year later. Heavy pink pepper, a sterile musk, a touch of sage which isn’t listed. The fragrantica accords say powdery but unfortunately there is none - I get no carrot or orris. I can’t help but think, with thousands of ingredients at their disposal, centuries of perfume innovation - and this is what you’ve created? And you’re charging $160 for 50 ml? Are we in the upside down

This is the longest-lasting skin scent I've found so far. It's not my favorite though. I sprayed it on my sweater and forgot about it for a while. Kind of smells a little bit musty and old. Edit: I'm in shock. After at least two washes, I can still smell it on the sweater. I'm getting tired of it quickly though.

I always thought people were crazy when they said “this fragrance smells like [insert random food]” but this smells like straight pickle juice on my skin! I love pickles but don’t want to give off the scent... Overall it’s not even in the running for a good skin-scent for me, especially for the price.

it leans black peppery to me. i do not like black pepper for some reason. but when it cools down it goes away and i get a hint of powdery somethings

Starts out spicy/woody and more interesting, then dries down to the more typical "clean skin" scent. To me it smells SO much better than Glossier You and JHAG Not a Perfume, which both pull baby wipes-esque to my nose. The spice in the opening sets it apart. Not as good as IMO as Clean Reserve Skin, which is still my go-to in this fragrance family. It's nice, and the extra woods make it more interesting and unisex, but maybe not worth the price point. If you want a major step up from JHAGNAP or Glossier you, and something less sweet and more woody that Clean Reserve Skin, give this a try. I didn't get pickles at all (and I do with Santal 33). Projection is moderate, as is typical with these types of scents. Longevity is decent! I got 6-7 hours. Edit: not sure what happened, but the second time I wore this I didn't like it at all. Smelled kind of weirdly synthetic and scratchy...a similar weird thing that I got when trying another one in the discovery set, Wild. Absolute hard pass. I'll stick with Clean Reserve Skin as my go-to skin scent

My immediate thought on this one was... a hospital bathroom. But one that’s been cleaned and sterilized. Or a blank, liminal doctor’s office with a tube light humming in the background. Maybe a book, but real “new book” smell is much better and softer than this. This isn’t great, let’s be honest. I mean... unless you want to smell like you’d blend into the grey walls of a long forgotten department store changing room. I’m not sure if it’s the carrot or the orris or whatever number of other stuff in there that’s giving it that vibe, but this does not evoke nakedness or skin to me. It evokes disgust. Dries powdery but soured. Not very long lasting, thank god. 0/10

I wanted to love this one so much because I'm such a fan of skin scents but this one smells like dill pickles to me. I think it's the carrot+angelica, but it just does not work for my nose. So disappointing! I was so sure I would love this one that I ALMOST blind bought a whole bottle, thank goodness I didn't.

Naked by The Maker is very mature and has an almost decaying smell, like dead plants in a floral conservatory. It’s quite gothic. It would probably smell amazing on another person, but a musky skin scent this is not.

The review below that called this “clinical” said it best. Angelica & orris straight through - sterile and bland. Mildly vegetal and uninspiring, if Gray could be a fragrance.

First impressions: (sample on paper) That pepper note is too much. I immediately felt it was powder and pickles. Nope. Edit 1: tried it on skin nope for me.

Totally pickles here. It grows on me but I wouldn’t have a reason to wear it over something else. Doesn’t layer too well.

Pickles. If you get pickles from AG TYN, then you might with this too. I’d recommend testing first.

Powder bomb with a hint of pickles (thanks to the person who commented below me). Not for me!

This straight up smells like pickles.

The opening for me is a pepper and creamy orris bomb. It then settles down to a dusty and maybe even crusty wood lol I wouldn’t say I get pickles from this, but there is something a little bit screechy and unappealing about it unfortunately. It lasts a good amount on skin and clothing as well, but the overall experience with this perfume is not pleasant and it’s just a little too weird to enjoy as a perfume. I would say it reminds me of an old room that has white sheets covering furniture, which maybe could be pleasant for some people in a hotel setting but as a perfume, it is a no for me.

Pepper, leather, orris and a bit earthy and musty. Thought I was going to love this one, but its only a kind of like for me. A scent im happy to sample but wouldn't entertain buying a full bottle, just didn't capture me like I was wanting it to, there is something quite sharp in this and its a bit off putting

If Sonic Flower and L'eau Papier had a soft & more gentle baby. Very clean, almost in a newborn-kind if way. Delicate, office-friendly...There isn't any mimosa but it'll trick u. This needs a heavy douse, on both clothing and skin. It's quite light. (I don't sense pickles in the slightest)

Oh, if you’re thinking this or Fleur de Peau definitely go with the ladder! There is no comparison. I never understood the pickle reference until I tried this scent, it starts off with pickles and then here comes a cigarette ash smelling in the background. A big no.

This was an immediate scrubber for me. I can usually leave a fragrance I don’t care for on and give it a chance, but this one was so bad on me I couldn’t do it. It smelled like sour pickles and something musty... hard no.

This is a pretty sharp and woody scent that was too searing on my nose for me to want to even sit through this perfume for the dry down. If you dont like woody scents, id stay away since thats the main star imo

Oh, I can't un-smell it. Got the herbaceousness from the Angelica. Then someone had to mention 'pickles'...lol. That vibe (in the opening) is quickly fading into a soft woody skin scent. A very soft veil.

opens very sharp, papery, peppery and clinical. it softens and sweetens as it dries, thankfully, but i don’t feel the need to own it. it’s just glossier you taken in the wrong direction.

Literally all I smell is dill pickles. Terrible and so very disappointing b/c the notes are right up my alley. :( I give this a 1/10. Who wants to smell like pickles?
