★★★★ Once upon a time, designer scents weren’t just a smell. They were a whole concept. Even if they were intended for mass appeal, without being bold or extraordinary. And suddenly, in the 90s, where purity and cleanliness was hip, a new bottle appeared on the shelves that was presenting itself as bottled olfactory freedom. How beautiful that is? No “ginger extreme”, no “neroli blah bla”, or “bla blah sport”. Just freedom! Tommy Hilfiger’s freedom manages to evoke freshness without being aquatic. It’s a modern Fougere carefully blended to evoke air, outdoor spaces, sensuality, freedom! Sweetened citrus, wrapped in a woody blanket and sprinkled with ginger zing. Its a Fougere that doesn’t resemble barbershop, a Fougere filtered through cucumber water! These forgotten designer gems have a certain character that present niche scents will never have. If only I’d had discovered it when it came out, to get carried away with the whole concept during its advertising period.

Absolutely loved this scent back in the day. I remember getting it from one of my aunts as a christmas gift and I also remember being so surprised that it actually smelled fantastic considering that my aunt likely walked into a the store and picked the first cologne she saw lol. It makes me sad that this frag is discontinued because the prices on ebay and most of the net are insanely expensive. If i ever find this stuff at a decent price i will literally buy 3 bottles, so many good memories :)

I absolutely adore this scent. Wish it wasn't discontinued but hey! It's a very fresh scnet with very good throw and lasting power. It's one of those scents that gets compliments and makes you smell clean. :) This is my second bottle and I may have to hunt down maybe one last bottle before it gets too hard to find. The cucumber in the top gives it that fresh watery vibe but it's still aromatic at the same time.. One fo my favourite scents marketed towards men. :)

This is my favorite TH scent and one of my favorite summer ones too. I still have my original bottle and use it sparingly because it's so hard to find a new one. It's perfect for a casual, summer afternoon.

This is a classic for sure. I've probably used about 6 bottles of this stuff. Reminds me of my school days. 10/10 !!!!!

Hilfiger's last fragrance for men in the 20th century is a clean manly classic. Discontinued and hard to find, this one can prove a challenge to get, but it is, in fact worth searching out. Just don't let anybody charge you more than $45- for a 50 ml or $60- for 100 ml(the original retail prices) just because it has been discontinued, there are quite a few out there, you only have to look. Mine was 28.49 for 1.7 oz EDT spray... The opening is quite refreshing with juicy cucumber, a trio of citruses and the warm touch of licorice(herb/bark/root, not candy).The heart continues to heat up with cinnamon, ginger and pimento. It's not overly spicy as it dries due to the presence of cypress and sage, very green and masculine. The base is quite woody with redwood, oakmoss and sandalwood.It is a fougere in its truest form:clean,fresh, warm and drying to a mossy wood accord. Sillage: okay Longevity: decent Overall: 3.5/5 It does remind one of "freedom" in that this is a very outdoorsy scent. It makes one think of wide open spaces, green fields and forests with lush aromas and shady paths. Despite quite a few spices and fruits the finish on this is very clean and and natural...

I had used the deodorant version of this back in the day and I suppose it was a little bit creamier than the perfume version because of the formula. The deodorant was antiperspirant, so not so healthy in my opinion, but the smell was very nice: kind of sweet, but refreshing and faintly citrusy.

i got this and recently my friends have said it smells like mosquito repellent/bug spray can anyone share their thoughts on why?

@clintjr82, this was Hilfiger's third, not second, masculine fragrance. Athletics was the second. This was another 1990s refreshing scent that continued the Hilfiger banner of youthful and happy openings, established by the debut fragrance (Tommy) earlier that decade. Unfortunately, it also carried the Tommy DNA of having a truly forgettable, boring drydown. I don't recall what happened to my bottle back then: my attention was diverted to Salvatore Ferragamo pour Homme and Happy for Men, which, despite having Freedom's abysmal drydown, was a lot more fun to wear.

My first full bottle fragrance! Memories! :) First impressions count - and i bought this one based solely on how cool i felt the bottle was at the time; it looked clean and crisp and modern, and i wanted it! I remember the opening to be like a breeze of fresh air and citrus, quite watery (it was the cucumber, on hindsight). I also remember not loving it so much as the day wore on; it had turned musky and powdery but not a musty kinda way (now i realize it was most likely the oakmoss note). Not understanding how fragrances worked, i sprayed even more juice on myself to get back that fresh citrusy feel. LOL i can only imagine how overpowering I must have smelt like on campus! NOOB :D Would I buy this again? Probably not, now that I know what i like. 4/10

I once heard this fragrance referred to Calvin Klein's Eternity,well it is true it has the same opening I found eternity faded away,Freedom was my high school cologne,I'd spray my whole body down and still smelled like I after I got home this was like back in 2003 if that tells you something.I once had a lady say the room smelled Good lol That new Release Sucked so bad Like cucumbers well just it was sweet not like freedom

I like the ginger note here - it's not harsh but very obvious. Overall, this is a nicely balaned scent, but I just don't like some of the other notes in it much. If you are super-sensitive to some aroma chemicals this may not work for you, but I do prefer it to Dior Homme Sport because the wood note there really bothers me. I can see why this one has some devoted fans but I doubt I will be keeping my bottle.

This is Hilfigers #2 mens fragrance only behind the original. My junior year in highschool fragrance . This stuff was great back back in the late 90s early 2000 era. Very Fresh and Woody with citruses well done. A summer great. I received compliments all the time. Even my 50 year dad ask to borrow this one. This is a TH Classic

I first bought it 8 years ago. Though it was pretty light on my skin but I found it to be unbelievably refreshing. The sweet cucumber was clear till the drydown. Citrus notes are mild here, not much of the cypress though. The longevity is high average but the silage is average. I'd give 6.5/10.

Ugh. I bought this on Ebay out of nostalgia and it has gone bad. Smells like cat pee. I know they reformulated with a different bottle, but it didn't smell like the original, hence this purchase.

This is great for an active guy during the summer & perfect for college kids year round. Very light scent: you can sense the grapefruit & lemon notes in it.

Nice one from TH....But hard to find... i got two 30ml bottles Fr 35 Euros each from Verona (italy)....But no doubt it's an old skool hit !

I had the shower gel of freedom by TH.. it really gave me happiness whenever i took shower..hehe

This in my opinion is a unisex perfume, bought one around 5 years ago; really good stuff.
