Ulysse

Although one of the most synthetic scents that I own, Ulysse is also one of the "prettiest" smelling as well. Maybe not quite the best, but definitely one of the prettiest. As far as price value verses quality is concerned, this Easter Sunday in a bottle is close to holding a personal record for favorite blind buy. I don't have anything in my arsenal remotely in the same arena as Ulysee, but really people...air freshener?? I suggest you make an appointment with your local ENT as soon as possible. On the contrary, there is something gravitating about this liquid green experience from 1998 that I find very fascinating. More so than many of my more expensive bottles even. Upon initial blast I get marshmallow Circus Peanuts candy, which immediately brings me back to my great aunt who seemed to always have a bag to share whenever I visited her as a kid. The juice itself is a spring time joy of sugar laced lavenders and florals with a musky background that comes off ultimately powdered candy with some faint lemon-lime dancing in the background. Think of a well groomed man walking past a sweet shop on Sunday morning after a wet April shower. The Ulysee bottle is the perfect representation of the scent itself, as the smell somehow comes off very frosted matte feeling and thickly layered. The glass detail is nicer than most niche offerings, with etched battle scenes engraved all around the outside, including the sides. The top is cheap, but all is forgiven as this bottle is one of my very favorites out of my entire collection. I do get the whole Greek vibe that VT was going for. The composition comes off very breezy and Mediterranean, not in a bombastic sort of way, but in a modest and humble arrogance that will make people envy you (just don't tell'em what you paid, lol!) A grand slam for me in every way.

She is the inventor of the mini skirt, the only American woman in history to have a couture design house in Paris which is still producing clothes today after forty plus years. She put Elizabeth Taylor in her first caftan, and thus became the designer to the jet setting glitterati of the 60's right up to the celebrated stars of today. This is Vicky Tiel and this is her one and only fragrance creation for men. Ulysse comes with this great history and pedigree and at a very reasonable price. As a mater of fact this brilliant wonderfully layered nearly symphonic scent is a steal at twenty dollars for 100 mil. Rich, exotic, mature and no doubt inspired by Tiel's several odysseys on the Mediterranean abroad the Burton's yacht Kalizma. You can smell the crisp salt air of the Mediterranean sea blending with citrus aromas of Italy, and Greece. As you sail along with this fragrance the spices of the Near East and those of the islands of Cypress and Crete rise up to meet you in pure splendor. It is an olfactory voyage that unfolds in surprising richness over about seven hours. It smells so very expensive! Ulysse is an overlooked masterpiece and I have to again thank MisterCrazyLegs for his guidance to this discovery of a Homeric inspired treasure. AND the Bottle! Deeply carved bas relief crystal like glass is so unusual in its unique beauty against the stark sleek design of so many other designer's bottles. Like some ancient glass found in a Hellenistic tomb. It is a classic little treasure in and of itself. I really love this fragrance and look forward to many more voyages of adventure with Ulysse.

I saw this on a discount site and had never heard of it. The name and the bottle intrigued me, having a passion for all thing mythological, and it was dirt cheap (8.95 for 100ml) so I figured what the heck, it sounded nice enough. The notes, of course, were incorrect but the juice...stunning! When I sprayed it for the first time I expected a watered-down, old smelling mossy woody thing and this frag was a sheer delight! The citruses and accompanying blossoms(neroli, linden) along with the mignonette were absolutely enchanting.It reminded me of summer in full bloom surrounded by ferns and fresh breezes.As this heavenly juice settles and begins to evolve it radiates soft spices, masculine florals and exotic essences(mayhaps, memories of some of the places Odysseus{Ulysses-roman}visited on his epic journey). The drydown is smooth as musk and vanilla are made more worldly by the addition of patchouli, benzoin and the moss from some unheard of tree that gives its final development an exotic air while remaining fresh, sweet and manly and just slightly green-like the juice itself... Sillage: very good Longevity: quite good Overall: 4.5/5 Not what I expected at all, and one has to wonder why Ms. Tiel never made another mens fragrance, when this one is so well-made and different from any of its conteporaries...

This is one that has grown on me since I first picked it up. For 12 Dollars I originally thought it was okay, but now I truly love it. Mignonette is a note that has to grow on you, and so does a powdery vibe. This stuff smells like green hard candy if you toned down the sweetness, and smoothed it out. It's a little powdery, but not in an old man way. It comes off very sensual in nature, and has a very welcoming and calm vibe to it. It's not something for a dude who parties all the time, and not something for a dude who's super sporty. It's a Renaissance Man type frag if that makes sense. It's something you can dress up or down, and I can't think of a time it would be bad to wear this. It's not a compliment monster, and it's not loud, but it lasts a good amount of time and smells like nothing else I have smelled. I love Ulysses, and the bottle is super cool. It doesn't smell like a 12 Dollar Frag, it smells rich and fancy. Very good stuff, if you're of a literate variety then this may be for you. It does share slight passing's with Versace The Dreamer and some Jacques Bogart frags in the way they come off in the lavender, but everything else is original. If this was a song it would be Fashion by David Bowie.

I'm really impressed with this one. I picked it up on sale for under $15 on FragranceNet after seeing a few reviews, so I was even happier that I actually really liked it after I got to smell it and wear it. Great example of a floral cologne that is also masculine. It also has a sweetness to it, and some citrus came out to play as well. It's really unique, and all of the notes just really work together. Great performance, decent projection. Complex, impressive from opening to close. Winning. **update 3 months later I got this out again. I've tried so many fragrances lately and a lot of them just overlap and seem a lot of the same, redundant or just close enough. And I like a ton of the known, nice and more expensive frags, but again even the great ones seem to overlap due to trendy notes and everything. And I like to try inexpensive mostly unknown ones, but just hard to find truly unique ones that are wearable and is often a waste of time and money, even when it's not much out of my pocket, it adds up. Buuuut, this one still is a champ. It's just so different, and fresh and nice. And still stand by the performance and projection. AND it's still super inexpensive to get right now. Such a steal.

Otherworldly, Sweet & "Living"... This 1998 hidden gem, is a vanilla-leaning aromatic fougère with soft green tones. Looking at the main accords, I was expecting something near Eros Versace, but this is unique and gets a lot sweeter over time (even though there was a sweetness in the first sprays). Coming back to this bottle after quite some time I found it had turned quite sweet and woody-ambery. The soft greens still remain and add to the sweetness, a distinctly 'living' feeling, but yet it remains otherworldly. I could imagine Brad Pitt or Claire Forlani wearing this on the set of Meet Joe Black (1998), released the same year, with its sweet yet otherworldly love story that explores what it means to be alive. There's a lot going on in the notes, but it opens with a burst of mignonette with its sweet, floral-violet & fruity nuances. That blurs into well blended aromatic fougére that leans sweet, soft, woody, musky & pale green, while the mignonette glaze remains on top. This is targeted to men, but to me it's unisex. This only gets better, and sweeter, with time - both on the skin and in the bottle. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

When I was a child Tom's had a 5 cent lime-flavored individually wrapped hard candy. Ulysse smells exactly like that tasted. It is bright and zesty and feels full of energy. Slightly sweet, but not a sugary sweet. The lime note is very long lasting and provides the driving energy of the scent. The mignonette is very forward and smells very pleasant. This is more floral than green to my nose with a nice musk note. I have worn this many times over the four years I've owned this in warm weather and always enjoy it, and I receive a lot of compliments for this. This is one case where forum recommendations were right on. This vaguely reminds me of Pour un Caron Sport and that is a BIG compliment. I am not a huge layerer, but try a white musk scent layered with Ulysse. I love Jovan White Musk side by side on my chest with Ulysse. A bottle is about the price of two bags of chips or a steak. Immense value in this bottle. This is a powerhouse for a light airy scent. Cheap and BEAST Mode. This can easily be oversprayed. It is Thermonuclear Fusion Supernova strength. I recommend Ulysse strongly.

#484 in my "Tour de Fragrance" There are handful of fragrances that sell for under $15 that I think are insanely underpriced and sadly overlooked. This is one of those. The citrus and green are wonderful, but the mignonette and carnation notes do a lot of the work here. I just like scents with a carnation note for some reason. I own Boss Bottled, Versace Blue Jeans, Drakkar Noir, Guerlain Vetiver, Chanel Egoiste, Dior Eau Sauvage, Lauren Polo. It's a long list of scents with a carnation note that ended up on my shelves. This is appropriate wear for any context, fine for any and all seasons except the bitterest cold, but sadly EDT only, and I would happily pay many times this price for an EDP version of this fragrance. But it stays on my shelf with a handful of other EDTs that I love and no EDP is available. It's the safest blind buy you'll ever do, but be prepared to respray at lunch as you would with almost every EDT.

Blind bought this because of reviews mentioning how green this smells. The bottle design is also great. I hope it's not a discontinued fragrance because I want to spray this everywhere. Got it for around $20 so it makes a great bargain for how good it smells! Ulysse has the same kind of fresh spicyness as Drakkar Noir and all the other men's spiced freshies from the 80s and 90s. The powdery drydown does remind me of Mugler Aura as some have voted on here, but Ulysse is less sweet. This could be the masculine companion to that fragrance. It's powdery but doesn't jump into powdery vintage aftershave territory. For the price it's an excellent buy and sillage is good and it's an inoffensive blind buy. Longevity could be better though. I wish the initial citrus, green, fresh, spicyness lasted longer than the powdery drydown but it still smells good.

It seems Ulysse isn't a too popular and known scent in Europe. I've found good reviews about it here, so I decided to buy it. When it arrived and I tried Ulysse, the first sniff made me amazed. It's a very pleasant , sweet, floral, citrusy aromatic, a little bit spicy scent. The opening seems a little harsh but quickly settles down. The mignonette and hawthorne is very fine blended with a prominent carnation note. Till the drydown it stays fresh and candy-like sweet , still masculine.It's not too citrusy-lavendery on me but more floral and creamy sweet vanilla comes out with clean musk and pleasant sweet lime tone. I wish it lasted longer. The bottle is a piece of art. I like it very much in summertime. Ulysse is worth every penny you pay for.

Yes!Yes!Yes! This(Ulysse) is my NEW updated Spring/Summer scent! I've spent much more money on other scents that I don't love nearly as much as this one!At first smell it seemed a little AVON-Y,but after dry-down few minutes later... (deep inhale) Spring time in a lovely bottle! How much do I love it? I received my first bottle this morning and ordered another before writing this review! Do yourself a favor and try it,even blindly as I did! Hanging tough on my skin since this morning and still smelling like a under $20 gold prize!Ulysse is truly and underrated gem.

I discovered this at Bergdorf Goodman in the 90s along with Prastara and Maitre Parfumeur Et Gauntier, Amouage, and Stardust by Llellwyn. This was a major player in igniting my passion. A very intense fragrance with a very unique profile. A little goes a very long way. That is what I learned after sniffing the blotter. Very addictive and memorable. I remember buying multiple bottles of this. At Bergdorf it was $57.50 and then I started buying from 5 star fragrance itself. I am not aware of the reformulation but my bottle had "beast" status.

Ulysse by Vicky Tiel delivers a rich, nostalgic blend of lavender, vanilla, and tonka bean that feels both classic and timeless. Please take my advice and just get this. This stuff is really pleasant and beautiful. Even if it ends up being something you may not want to wear daily its still a very pleasant and relaxing smell for bedtime or around the house. And for $14 it’s worth it just for the beautiful bottle. It has a light airy-ness that will not offend anyone yet it is still very unique. It lasts quite a while without being too overpowering or projecting.

A green, dewy field of sweet grass filled with magical unicorns eating flowering herbal plants. Occasionally, one of the creatures excretes a pile of organic material, which begin to fleck the hillsides. Remnants of spiced greenery and florals tones mix with natural male unicorn musk. Vicky herself then gathers the byproduct and distills the perfume oil from the excretions. Magical, floral, and organic. Probably vegan, too.

Oh yeah, it smells like it cost a lot of money, but really it is very low cost. If you ever have smelled Denali from Old Spice Fresh Collection, it is very similar and matches well with the body wash and deodorant. I really like the sweet and refined nature of this fragrance. It is very nice. Not at all offensive or strong, but just right. Has good lasting power, more than 5 hours. Very nice.

Perfectly unisex. I get a slightly bitter lemon-lime opening, with a cooling green dry down. I don't smell any florals, but I think I'm generally anosmic to carnation. A soothing and grounding way to start a hot summer day, or an afternoon refresh. Bottle feels weighty and expensive, but this is much cheaper than it smells!

Despite its similarity to some fragrances, Ulysse is quite unique with those unusual floral notes.I agree that it feels unisex but more on the masculine side.It is really worth having it in your collection because it has very good quality for an edt.In my case this has lasted more than 8 hours with moderate sillage.

Just got it sprayed this along with another new purchase I like this it seems warm IMO I'm used to fresh light smells this one also seems heavy and I love it ... its amazing might update after I spend a few months with it lol

What a frag!! Sooooooo underrated. Not just off the price but for the quality. I have over 500 frag and this is still one of the ones I take with me on trips. Such a crowd pleasure. Powder fresh, floral. Just beautiful.

Vicky Tiel Ulysse smells like a fresh barbershop-style vintage masculine scent with a citrus kick. It opens clean and bright, then settles into a classic musky-woody dry down. Simple, timeless, and easy to wear.

I just can't get over how spectacular this scent is, and how unbelievably low-priced it is! What a bargain!! I just got this from Amazon.com for 12 US$ and I smell like a million dollars!

When you miss the spring. Amazing!

A lot of expectation for this one. It was a scent I had heard about for a while - the best review of this early on by gypsyparfumista had this in my shopping cart on several occasions. However, I waited. I bought it recently (finally!) alongside the brilliant Faconnable for Men (a wonderful scent in the same general realm, yet a unique fragrance itself) but, one I already knew. This was the bottle that I was so intrigued by - Ulysse. Would it live up to the hype? I asked the same question my friend krmarich did - and after 15 minutes into the initial wearing, I definitely like it and admire the composition...this is indeed, very nice and a well-made bottle of fragrance, especially for the price. The opening is fresh, vibrant and sparkling with wonderful citrus, including one of my favorite citrus notes, yuzu. The florals come in - neroli is nice here (not over-done) along with the lime blossom. However, the mignonette note here is what really delivers the unique smell right from the start. A brief story about Mignonette - it is a sweet-scented perennial flower with a romantic history, few others can match. Although a true perennial mignonette is usually treated as an annual. French Emperor Napoleon, saw the plant growing along the banks of the Nile during his attempted conquest of Egypt. He was fascinated by its delicious fragrance and collected some seeds to send to his empress, Josephine. She was an avid gardener and grew the new plant under her bedroom window in a window box. She loved its unusually strong fragrance so much that she made it fashionable throughout France to grow the new plant. Soon it was made popular throughout the world. Mignonette is not a display flower, but its distinctive fragrance is reason enough to grow it. I find that note to really carry nicely into the heart along with the neroli as the citrus fades out within a short period. I also detect at this point the note mentioned by gypsyparfumista, linden. I love linden soaps and even have a fragrance that is based upon the fragrant floral note. You simply cannot over-apply this, as it has been said...it does not get cloying, although the opening is very bright and very aromatic - this stays fresh from initial application through the dry down. The key notes that show in the heart to me are nice light, floral lavender (very clean) and the sharp carnation that adds a nice spike. The hawthorn and nutmeg create a nice spicy blend along with a touch of cloves (which come late in the heart into the drydown) which transcends more so with the exotic and clean wood note. The base is very nice and I like how it presents itself - more of a way to keep the florals bright, yet add some depth to the composition (including green notes). Patchouli is very nice here - a nice vibrant and just slightly earthy green note...which works in harmony with the tree moss. Very well-done! The musk is a white musk...clean and a nice fresh note to add to this already radiating "fresh fougere". Finally, benzoin appears as the dominant and final base note along with pinch of fresh ground vanilla bean. Not vanilla that is heavy at all. The benzoin resin provides a more natural, vanillic aroma actually, but the reason I like benzoin here is that it keeps the base from becoming heavy or even remotely too sweet (and it does also create a nice warmth that allows the scent to lift off your skin and breathe). I have discussed my preference for benzoin in other aromatic and fresh compositions (as well as Orientals that have a "lifted" quality) - it holds true here. Very much so, indeed. Longevity here seems to be adequate for a scent in this realm - not too long (about 3-4 hours). Definitely not a strong scent (less than average projection), but that is part of the beauty. It will not overpower you, but instead charm you. One can either reapply or go to another scent after the dry down for the evening. I don't want to give a traditional fractional score here. I simply want to express my sincere gratitude to the fellow reviewers here who found this bottle and were kind enough to share their great opinions. It will be in my rotation and one I look forward to wearing in the future. Perfect for warm (and hot) spring & summer days...and wearable on warm evenings where you don't want to project a scent too loudly, but radiate a unique fresh aroma that shows quiet confidence for a few hours. Reminiscent of Faconnable for Men and also Revillon R (a wonderful creation by Maurice Roucel that one would like if Ulysse is something they admire), but definitely all three are their own unique fragrance. What I am referring to is the clean, fresh, citrus and floral vibe with enough base notes to keep the compositions alive and very nice skin scents that stay on you for longer than expected (and fabric, even more so). The realm of "fresh fougeres" and aromatic scents where unique notes are utilized, quality is high, and one can apply liberally and not offend. Out of the mainstream/aquatic realm...more class, elegance and thought in the compositions. Ulysse, by Vicky Tiel. One to enjoy - cheers! Now, I'm off to plant some mignonette in my garden...

Nice springtime stinkwater, but sadly diminished by reformulation. Still a vegetal citrus and incense bomb, like a smoky mezcal and tonic, but the polite projection is not a patch on the monstrous room-filling performance of the original 90s version. Ulysse was one of the embarrassingly loud frags (along with A*Men and Fahrenheit) that dominated among fashionable young men circa 1999. Oversprayed, as young men tend to do, it was a choker. I was rocking the Mugler devotedly at the time and as the two clash horribly when the residue combines on clothes, I enjoyed Ulysse from afar. This new formula hews close to the original character: fresh but not aquatic; green but not insipid; spicy but not warm. It seems to transform radically according to personal chemistry, which perhaps accounts for the mixed reviews. Thank goodness this aroma profile pre-dates the lashings of calone and cheap ISO E Super that pollute many 'modern' freshies. I'll enjoy getting to know this one. Envisioning oudy, sandalwoody, ambery, and ambroxany layering possibilities. Don't pay more than about $12 (including shipping) for 100 ml and you'll have an excellent value, good quality juice for warm weather rotation.

Very interesting! I’ve been leaning towards these aromatic scents recently to try to break away from the aquatic and fresh stuff I’m used to. I have 167 frags as of this writing, and I don’t think I have a single one that even remotely resembles this stuff. For me it kind of reminds me of an old school frag... can’t quite put my finger on it. I will say this, if you don’t like powdery or barber shop frags, this is NOT for you. It’s very much along the lines of like an Avon black suede or wild country to my nose. Granted, it’s fresher than those but that’s what it invokes for me. I would say this stuff Is good for a formal setting. I’m 32 and this just reminds me of something you’d wear to church or something like that. It’s a like, not a love from me. For the money though, if you don’t have something like this in your collection.... give it a shot. 8/10

The mignonette, which is a pretty and powdery floral scent somewhat reminiscent of violet, is the real star here, layered over the lavender and musk and vanilla. The effect of this is so pleasing, and seems so far unique in my own experience with fragrances. The sweetness produces an accord somewhat akin to melon (but also absolutely not that either). The loveliest feature of this accord is its freshness--it just doesn't grow stale, and is very springlike. It doesn't smell cheap, but, to be honest, neither does it really smell expensive. This is quite nice for the great price, although I would warn this is better at helping you feel fresh than impressing someone on a date.

I admit to being a frag newb, but I pick up primarily floral notes with this. When the notes list mandarin and lime blossoms, wouldn't that be floral rather than citrus? I would say I smell florals, perhaps a little woodsy note, and a bit of sweetness perhaps from the vanilla. Regardless, it seems quite unique to me, and I enjoy smelling it. I also think the bottle is rather cool, although the sprayer doesn't seem to spray much. After several hours, when this scent has died down, it seems to leave primarily patchouli and vanilla I think. This was a blind buy for me based on what I read on this site, and I am pleased.

How can I describe this? To me it smells like the bottle portrays it to be. I think of being in a white marble colosseum filled with fountains and beautiful women. On opening, this stuff is strong, kind of spicy and very floral. It's definitely a masculin floral though. The citruses come out on opening but are quickly masked by the lavender, and neroli. The base is definitely musk, vanilla, and patchouli and is really very nice and creamy/powdery. It definitely goes well as a summer night cologne, but not somewhere like a club. Best if you can wear it outdoors because it will make nature jealous.

Any fragrance with yuzu in the top notes is off to a good start. Very fresh open on this one and then the flowers come out. And they smell excellent. I had this on for about 20 minutes when I needed to switch shirts. I pulled up my shirt and was blasted with the carnation and lavender. I could have taken my shirt on and off for hours. It was an excellent experience. For the price of this you really should add it to your collection. Blind buy it. You won't be disappointed. And I almost forgot. The bottle itself is highly attractive. Just add it to your collection already.

This brings to mind a soft-yet-angsty 90s boy who dresses sort of sad but not quite gothic, and listens to Smashing Pumpkins exclusively. It's a pleasant, light floral scent, but it's more masculine than unisex. The Achilles' heel of this fragrance (I know this one is Ulysse, not Achille, but I've been saving this joke up for a while now, so please laugh and don't forget to donate to my Patreon) is the mediocre projection, despite decent lasting power.

Nice under-the-radar scent. Airy, breezy, and spicy/floral sweet. Seems the accords listing on this page could have ozonic represented. The comparison to Cartier L'envol makes sense to me as I just sprayed L'Envol on test strip and the sweet breeziness immediately reminded me of Ulysse and Faconnable.

Just got my bottle today. Initial blast is awesomely fresh! Invigorating fresh citrus and lavender. Sadly skin scent within 20 minutes. Too bad, the presentation is amazing. It's a hearty glass bottle with textured imagery. I'm afraid to toss in gym bag but that's exactly the type of frag this is =/.

To describe this scent to my nose shortly, it's a TON of musky lavender with some citrus on it. The lavender & musk are so heavy for me it kind of make the citruses bland. It's not bad, nor offensive (too mellow to offend anyone), but not something I will reach for very often.

A very fresh citrus/floral fragrance. Reminds me of Anucci Men but Ulysse is a more citrussy fragrance. It lasts fairly well and projects reasonably. The dry down remains refreshing but a bit sharp. Ulysse is an OK citrus but the bitter/sharp note is a bit off putting.

To add to review below. Ulysse is an unusual citrus - it's quite unique and the mignonette is noticeable. If you have bought this, give it a proper chance - it's a bit off-putting at first, but, I think Ulysse is a grower.

This thing smalls good. I really enjoy it had it for weeks. It last and projects like crazy. The opening is ok but after it get better. Going to use this for summer. Happy for buying this blind buy.

Super floral fresh , easy to wear .decent longevity. For around 30$ it’s a simple fragrance. Bottle is hefty and has nice Greek artwork on it.

Warm, powdery, floral, sweet, vanilla. I've only owned this in the latter part of the year, and it works well in a cooler climate.

You know how these inexpensive fragrances all seem to have the same cosmetics-scented basenotes, even if they aren't listed as the same? After a couple of hours, that's all that is left, that generic basenote smell, and I do not like it. The opening itself is pretty nice and it's unique, yet it doesn't seem blended very well. The notes seem disparate, like they are competing with each other rather than working together in concert. It's an oddity for sure. I definitely understand why people like it. I wore it on a date once, and my female companion mentioned how nice I smelled. It doesn't work in hot weather. It becomes cloying and heavy, but it isn't sweet. Like I said, it is an oddity. As others have commented, the bottle, if you care about presentation, is one of the prettier bottles out there, so it looks great on display, but I just never seem to reach for it.

Unlike another review I do not need to write a book about a fragrance that resembles an air freshener. I bet if I replace my dish soap with this stuff my dishes would come out nice and shiny and smelling like Ajax Lemon Dish Detergent. I just do not like this at all and sorry for my negative comments but what is Ulysse about? The first spray....which was my last spray was like citrus and flowers all mixed up into one. But I feel too much flowers were used in this case. It was not strong thankfully and it left a lot to be desired. This is well liked from most of the reviews I have read and I just do not see the appeal with this one. Its not terrible but I will never have this in my home sitting high on a pedestal like many people have. 5 out 10

A cheap but regrettable blind buy, Ulysse is the most feminine fragrance I’ve encountered that’s marketed for men. I’m only getting non-stop florals from this, and none of the other listed notes are loud enough to balance it out. I would only wear this if I wanted to convince the world I moonlighted as an elderly florist who very often fell headfirst into my work.

This smells like a household scent: dish soap, air freshener, a thing you dangle from the rear view mirror, etc. It's artless. I don't like the lime Kool-Aide color, either. "Ulysse is a man's perfume created for a woman's pleasure" ...which, sadly, the man will have to smell on himself all day.

Unfortunately fell victim to Brandon's review of this nauseating bubblegum concoction of blossoms and fruits that is simultaneously sweet and bitter, loud, cheap and vexatious.

This is an idea which deserves a remake,an update, a reformulation, The Overall composition is great but smell poor and outdated, it is humble and good , very charismatic and captivating. If better ingredients could be used in a new reformulation certainly would be a wonderful smell because the blend is a winner. Now smells like a pretty boyish fragrance, there is no Greek appeal, the virility of the Greek statue is not here, nor the cleverness and resources of Ulysses. We get a cherubim innocent smell that is heart melting and good intentioned. Powdery lavender, no sharp citrus but round lemon blossom creamy, vanilla at the base, the yuzu add some freshness. I can see a smart kid wearing this, and it is certainly enough to make me smile and win the day. Vicky tiel should try an limited edition for test, this would be a success, absolute success, since the idea is solidly anchored in a concept of classic beauty and easy going vibe , pursuing a calm effect wherever you go, like a kind persuasion,but the ingredients are so low quality (deodorant like)that most people step back refusing to smell again, this perfume have the capability of let you in good mood,laid back and relaxed, great one before bedtime, I have hopes that someone take this blend and retrofit. Time to step up again Vicky, entering a modern era. UPDATE : Ulysse is a grower, a dreaming fragrance, I'm wearing this on a rainy warm evening and is just a perfect match, I still believe better ingredients could be used, a tiny bit stronger,because on my skin is just one hour his lasting power, another problem exist with overspray, on me particularly, the base of the fragrance mix a cheap musk with nutmeg,this combination is really contradictory and seems more accidental than intended,smells like a mistake to me. Nevertheless, for the sake of this dreaming young fougere, throwback on good times,where people was more simple and life less materialist and "synthetic"(almost a zeugma, the EDT is synthetic,but not his appeal),this fragrance recall a date in the 90's behind the school, evokes romance,nostalgia and good moments. I am happy to know other guys catch that idea, and enjoyed Ulysse, in my country is just a pass, but fragrance as any other art, is culture, I'm learning everyday here and must confess that I made unpopular reviews, but I see certain progress in my road when I can clearly perceive in the society nowadays people believing that the "stronger the better" is an axiom, but that is not necessarily true,this one is a good example.

I love a good under the radar, hidden gem cheapie. But this ain't it for my tastes anyway. This is most definitely a unisex scent, but imo leaning more towards the feminine side. I'm only in my early 30s and even I feel this is too "pretty" to pull off. I enjoy the use of florals in masculine fragrances but this one ultimately feels very "dainty" and "dandy" and I don't like sweetness in male fragrances. This is not the kind of vibe I'm trying to put out as a man who works a high-level corporate expat role overseas where I'm expected to be looked up to as a leader of my team. The above "reminds me of" comparison to Cartier L'envol EDT is all kinds of wrong also. Both are unisex fragrances, but the Cartier definitely leans more towards the masculine side of things with its musky, woody dry down. The Cartier is also a million times better smelling and higher quality than this (which you would expect considering the price gap between the two). Most importantly however I really don't see any parallels in terms of the actual scent between the two, the honey note in L'envol EDT really sets it apart from most (including Ulysse) and the two fragrances couldn't be further apart in terms of actual "approach". I don't think Ulysse is a "bad" fragrance by any means, and for the $11 USD for 3.4 oz price point that I bought it for I'd still class it as a good under the radar hidden cheapie, but just without the "gem" part ;) Be careful buying this because you're definitely buying a very unisex-smelling perfume by the absolute definition of that word. @mattguy_c has this very well summed up below: "I would only wear this if I wanted to convince the world I moonlighted as an elderly florist who very often fell headfirst into my work."

Ulysse smells like Moroccanoil Hair treatment mixed with lavender. The nutmeg is also detectable. Ulysse seems like a transition season scent - best for autumn or spring. It's a sweet aromatic/herbal scent, like a sweet fougere, which may not be to everyone's taste, but I can't see this bothering anyone because it's well blended. There's an herbal smell that's not quite mint, like running over a clump of fragrant weeds with a lawnmower, that takes me to a clear blue spring day, like it literally makes me remember a time and place. Maybe the mignonette? Going with mignonette since I have no clue what that smells like. Floffles mentioned back in 2018 that this brings to mind hair products and soap from a hotel. Yes, that Moroccanoil smell with lavender soap or nutmeg mixed in. This is marketed as a masculine, but I wear it anyway especially in fresh weather. Light sillage, dries down in an hour, ends up on nutmeg and vanilla. Stay away if you dislike nutmeg. If you like that note (I do), Ulysse is a great fresh sweet fougere.

This is another great cheapie for people who are not a fan of citruses. Ulysses is bright and masculine with a citrusy floral scent. I feel like this could’ve been a leftover fragrance from the 80s even though it came out in 1998. It just does not have much of a 90s feel though I could see it being similar to CK one. This has more character to it while being understated. I’m not a fan of citrus fragrances but this one is just right. The box and bottle are very Greek and Roman with all its masculinity on display. Reminds me of when I studied Greek and Roman art in college. I say pick a bottle up while it can still be found.
