Merveilles & Nuit

Merveilles & Nuit by Weil is pretty weighty Amber Spicy fragrance, which is unapologetically retro in its style and composition. It starts out big, big, big with the Cinnamon, Chili Pepper and Pepper and you get a huge a cacophony of notes swirling around for a the opening and you don't know where its going to end, but it quickly settles into a totally glamazon of a vintage styled fragrance, that's perfectly paired with the cold weather. The Cinnamon and Patchouli run through this fragrance at its heart and the Ylang-Ylang, Orange, Jasmine give it it some opulence and lightness but it clearly is a fragrance that's centred around the deeper notes. I personally don't get any vanilla but I'd swear that there is a smidgen of cumin in this, which if it is, I really don't mind, as this is a spice fest, which is affordable and well done and I must get myself a back up bottle as its good,.really good. Only downside is that it doesn't project a lot but it stays on clothing and gives you a warm, cozy ambience around you..

Merveilles & Nuit doesn't remind me so much of the perfumes mentioned below - Opium, Youth Dew and Chanel No. 5 EdP - as it does of the fabulous and very sadly discontinued Theo Fennell Scent, with its spices and sultry otherworldliness. They are not very alike, but definitely share a similar idea. In itself, Merveilles & Nuit is a spicy concoction; you will need to love both black and chili pepper, as well as cinnamon to fully enjoy its magic. The orange lifts the prominent spices along with the floral notes and some vanilla; to my nose there is not much patchouli. Perfect for evenings out, it is strong, long lasting, very moreish in every way. Timeless, modern, Merveilles & Nuit really should have more of a following, like so many others from Weil. Splendid stuff - highly recommended.

This scent hails back to a byegone era and is a very distinct move away from the more modern scents Weil released over the last few years like Greedy Essence. Its a serious oriental perfume, that is no nonsense! This is like the retro stuff that your grandma wore and is completely set apart from the fruitouchli scents of recent years. I don't reach for it very often but I feel that there will come a time and place, when I'm all glammed and wrapped up in my faux fur and will be glad that I have it.

Hmm. I see Daisy Adair below has described this as a dupe for Chanel No5. I disagree. To me, this is an old school oriental and is a ringer for Youth Dew. It also reminds me of original Opium parfum. It's ridiculously cheap in the UK at the moment and smells far more expensive than it is (as you might expect of something which so closely resembles Youth Dew/Opium parfum).

A really beautiful perfume ,I would say it's very like opium eau de parfum .☺️ Lasts on skin for a long time very powerful.

1000% dupe for Chanel No 5! I have both and it’s literally the same, I was so surprised to find out because the notes seem way different. In the dry down it’s a lot sweeter though, and the longevity is basically the same as the Chanel one. A+ dupe I’d say but now idk what to do having both....
