Aqua Velva Original Sport

I thoroughly enjoy this stuff. As many people mention, it bears a faint resemblance to Irish Spring Original soap, but there's much more to it than that. (I have revised my review to reflect more recent sniffing of Irish Spring.) I would say it is closer to Sung Homme than Irish Spring. Original Sport opens with a citrus mixture similar to its kin Aqua Velva Musk, but it's made different by pairing it with lavender and sweet pine (rather than powdery sweet musk). The heart is light green, slightly floral, and soapy, sitting on top of a base of synthetic evergreens and moss. It's what you might get if you took away the bright, sharp edge of Irish Spring and bundled it with a sporty citrus opening and a Polo-style mossy drydown. Performance? You'll go nose-blind to it long before the scent actually disappears. Applied like a cologne I can easily detect it on my skin 12+ hours after application, but on my face I barely notice it more than, say, an hour? Sillage and projection are pretty low compared to the Ice Blue and Musk scents, so it's rather more discreet despite its surprising staying power. AV Original Sport is fun from start to finish. It definitely smells more like aftershave & soap than like a fine fragrance, but it smells pretty good (and unique) as far as cheap, commercial aftershaves go. One of the few shaving products exclusive to Canada that's good enough to make people in other countries jealous!

It does smell like Irish Spring.

Sold only in Canada, the date of this aftershave's creation is unknown. Like Ice Sport, the smell from the bottle is better than the smell once it begins to dry on the skin. As this frag here begins to dry on the skin, it basically becomes Alfred SUNG HOMME. Masculine and a little rough.

This aftershave to my knowledge is only offered in Canada. Basically it smells exactly like Irish Spring soap, and is full of oakmoss. It would go really well with Alfred Sung's Sung Homme which is basically Irish Spring eau de toilette. Very enjoyable and has a very nice cooling sensation like in the original Aqua Velva. Great longevity and projection for an aftershave too. 4/5

My dad wore Aqua Velva, so it has a positive nostalgic resonance to me. Otherwise, objectively, it is mildly pleasant, but forgettable. I have never worn it.
