1986

1986 is one of Xerjoff’s most recent releases and is a very agreeable fresh blend of green tea, mandarin, cardamom, and orange blossom. It’s a classic case of “what’s not to like?” as the fragrance is perfectly wearable for anyone—not too sharp to be off-putting, not too watery to be boring—yet does not test any boundaries or push any norms. I think it balances the tea, citrus, and floral aspects well, with just enough cardamom in the background to keep things interesting. I feel like I would mainly be in inclined to wear it on a summer day or when relaxing around the house. It’s an easy winner, as I sometimes say. 1986 was released as part of Xerjoff’s “Spray to Help” initiative to support the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research, established in 1986, and is currently sold only through the Xerjoff universe website for €197 (for 50ml), which translates roughly to $242 US, with shipping on top of that, I believe. I find the price steep for the creation so part of the motivation in buying it has to be supporting its mission, as there are many comparable fresh fragrances that are more affordable. For example, Anthony Hopkins’ AH Eau de Parfum supports “No Kid Hungry” with a more modest $75 bottle (that is 100ml). Still, I like 1986 overall and it’s worth trying if an agreeable albeit pricey freshie is in your wheelhouse, particularly to support a good cause in Italy. 7 out of 10

Im a 1986 born. So, I might as well sample it and try it just for sentimental purposes. Not bad. I get a green tea smell on it. Ideal for warm days. Last on me, a good 5 hours. Maybe if overspray it might last a bit more. I got a 1 ml sample.

Edit: I’ve had to edit below this as it turns out in fact that a new candle was wafting a floral scent in the back ground so infact it wasn’t my wrist that was smelling quite so floral. Gorgeous though not original. Possibly the most commercially attractive of all Xerjoff scents. Very safe. Other than Landshark321s review (which are usually spot on) I find reviews here totally perplexing! Nearly bought a bottle but settled for a small decant. Orange Blossom mainly, the tea and cardamom helping it along by giving a tiny nectary pollen white and yellow floral feel over the orange. There are occasions when I find the orange blossom is a bit stronger and on these occasions it also reminds me of less nuanced Etat Libre Hermann. I guess on the positive it’s an above average in silage for its type and very wearable for men.

Citrusy perfume for summer with many mixture in each phase. Opening is very beautiful with a fizzy aldehydic vibe like ROJA Oceania. The subtle tea notes comes up in the mid quite similar with Guerlain Néroli OUTRENOIR that I love. Transition into a sharp woody ambroxan profile in the drydown found in Bvlgari Tygar. Unfortunately the progression is happening too fast and the drydown is also mellow down quite quickly too resulting in a very short lived fragrance 🙏.

Nice Opening... Meh Middle... 12:30 what feels like a woody base starts to pop through... Its in the air rather than up close... This element is lovely... In general passed through the day with little interest... Nice enough but doesn't stand out... At this price it would need to knock you out of the way and this hardly brushes your shoulder...

Very nice and fresh tea scent! Think green tea with mandarin and a touch of flower. Simple and light but it still has a character. This might be a nice signature scent too, but I don't think it's an evening-out kind of perfume. It's like a body lotion, without the lactonic profile. I could wear this to the bed or yoga class.

Just got this in and first I’ll say is that this bottle is beautiful. Looks lovely on my shelf with my other Xerjoffs. Now getting to the scent, I love how it smells from the bottle, but on my skin I get mainly only the orange blossom. So it’s very floral on me and I don’t get any of the mandarin orange or other notes on myself. It isn’t until it dries down a hour later that I pick up the green tea aspects and maybe cardamom. But I honestly don’t know if I like it or not. I don’t hate it or think it smells bad...but idk if I think it smells great or even good. It might grow on me over time so we’ll see. I don’t think this is a safe blind buy at all though because of how heavy the white florals come across. I was expecting a more citrusy experience with a touch of white florals but not just all the orange blossom radiating off me. The “reminds me” section is a mess too because it smells like none of those suggested fragrances. Sample if you can, even though this is hard to come by since it’s a limited edition. For now though it’s a 6/10 EDIT: After owning it for a week I sold off my bottle. I had to come to terms that it honestly smelled like those circle things they put in urinals for bathrooms. I really tried to like it but it’s too pungent to wear. Shame since the bottle looks really great.

Xerjoff broke my heart with this one. The bottle is so gorgeous, too. I sniffed the bottle without spraying and detected that pungent bitter undertone familiar to the oud offerings from Xerjoff (Alexandria II, La Captitale) and well as some of the "fruity" V collection ones (Erba Pura). I have wondered if my nose has a weird perception of ambroxan or another similar ingredient. I sprayed this on my skin and had a hint of something promising. Nope-- everything was drowned out by a strong bitterness and a hint of something fresh. I hoped for sweet, juicy orange pulp with a touch of orange blossom, green tea, and spice. I love the Native deodorant Tangerine and Orange Blossom and hoped this would have that same touch of heaven like a real flowering orange blossom. Sorry everyone, but this was a blast of masculine bitterness :(

Seriously? Where is the tea? All I get from top is basil-green grass-seaweed opening topped off with industrial grade concentration of calone. This has been done before (with less concentration of course) but I've had this fragrance before, different brand, different bottle, many years ago. Sold at "for male" selection of designers in the mall. It is masculine green aquatic scent. Tea is pretty much lost in the composition and buried under green notes and cardamom. Was expecting so much more from 1986. Longevity is sadly quite short on too, I got only 4h of wear, sillage is soft.
