Vertical

Vertical is one of the five launch fragrances of the Baron Bishop brand, created in 2021. The concept behind the fragrance speaks of Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest, in English), which is a pair of residential towers in the Porta Nuova district, in Milan. It was considered one of the biggest redevelopment projects in Europe, thanks to its futuristic style, and today it houses more than 900 trees. Vertical's fragrance is classified as citrus, it was created by Fabrice Pellegrin and combines notes of lemon and bergamot on top; Petitgrain and sage, in the body; Patchouli and oakmoss, in the base. It is worth remembering that perfumes based on oil (as well as solid ones, based on vegetable waxes) tend to work very differently on the skin when compared to those diluted in water and alcohol. Vertical touches the skin with a delicious explosion of citrus, no content of the Safflower oil used as a base, and that unique style of Italian fragrances that explore the best bergamot of perfumery, which comes from the Calabria region. And if a fragrance has color, then Vertical's is definitely green. Even with a combo with an effect as acidic as this, the output brings juiciness and, surprisingly, little sour content. As if lemon and bergamot weren't enough, petitgrain also came to reinforce the typical DNA of Italian colognes (and some more classic ones, of German origin). The sage brings a more aromatic and, dare I say, slightly peppery side, while drying takes on more traditional dimensions, reminiscent of moss. The oily base retains the most volatile nuances for longer. And the result is surprising for its quality disguised as simplicity. What we have, as a final product, is a light and fresh fragrance, similar to countless others on the world market – including those sold as Eau de Cologne. However, I feel a different touch, which makes me believe that there was a greater process of purification of the ingredients during the extraction. At the end of the day, Vertical is a tribute to the Italian perfumery, which conquered its prominent space along with the best French brands, thanks to the universe of Acqua di Parma, and continues to surprise with beautiful creations for Niche Perfumery brands, such as Nobile 1942, Tiziana Terenzi, Etro and now, Baron Bishop Parfums.
