Archetype

A fantastic earthy and green fragrance. This awakens my senses and starts my day off fresh.

Archetype is one of the five fragrances of the Baron Bishop brand, launched in 2021. The concept behind the fragrance tells the story of the Filarete Tower, the main entrance to Sforzesco Castle, which symbolizes the foundation on which Milan was built. This would have been the archetype of conscious urban planning during the Renaissance period. Hence, the name. Archetype's fragrance is classified as aromatic, it was created by Ilias Ermenidis and combines notes of bergamot and rosemary, at the top; Cedar and leather, in the body; Vetiver and patchouli, in the base. It is important to remember that perfumes based on oil tend to work quite differently on the skin, when compared to those diluted in water and alcohol, as these elements act as conductors between what comes out of the bottle and what is retained on the skin, resulting in more output and a drier evolution. On the other hand, Perfume Oils end up having a typical behavior of low projection, and their durability is directly linked to the texture of the skin and how it will absorb the oil. In addition, as with solid perfumes, after a certain time, the scent of the base – here, Safflower Oil – becomes present. That said, Archetype opens with a green and slightly camphorated freshness, which evolves into a stage where the cedar is sweeter and leathery (probably they used Atlas Cedar) and blends, perfectly, with the leather note. In my perception, this note has an aspect of tar and gives seriousness and reinforces the storytelling of buildings, concrete, and architecture. On the other hand, it shows me a more masculine side, which remains until the end and can be an obstacle for some women. In a very subtle evolution, the vetiver emerges and brings earthy nuances, which are reinforced by the rougher side of patchouli. Archetype works fine on hot days and the fragrance is noticed by people around you. The average durability, on my skin, is about six hours (easily noticed), but the scent of the oil base can still be felt even after ten hours of application. In my opinion, Baron Bishop's fragrances were made for those who already know the Niche segment and, above all, have experience with Perfume Oils. That is, people who usually have a considerable collection of fragrances or who have already tested everything within this diverse universe. The size of the bottles (15ml) with rollerball is perfect to be taken anywhere, but I believe that very soon, the company will be forced to launch more traditional versions, diluted in EDT or EDP concentration and larger volume bottles.
