Ramage

An underrated gem. One sniff makes it clear why Henri Robert went on to create 2 Chanel greats, No 19 and Cristalle. Aaah just smell those aldehydes. It's a pretty scent, a chypre lacking all skank in the same way as say Chanel no 22 comes across. Astonishing that it is so cheap. Even more astounding that the modern version has kept the integrity of the vintage versions if not the strength. I just wish it was available in an EDP. Cologne strength is just too fleeting. I'm never without a bottle of Ramage. And what a lovely, distinctive and (blimey) HUGE bottle it is for such a small outlay. So useful. I decant into small bottles, add essential oils, and use as very classy and non-chemical air fresheners. On hot days it has become my go to Cologne -- it blooms wonderfully in heat. I don't register Ramage as being particularly sweet on my skin. I'm thankfull for this as I dislike sugar overload in any perfume. Nor do I find the jasmine overbearing. Again, lucky me. Delightful stuff. Long may it continue to be available.

A great scent. When you know what the notes are then it all seems obvious. I knew it was vintage. Yes the aldehyde is very up front closeky followed by the jasmine and oak moss. A classic chypre. It's a curious thing but I would have bet there were more notes. It has the depth but perhaps that's because it's vintage. There is a sweetness that appears with the warmth of your skin. It was this that made me think it was an oriental and a resin was responsible for this. The important thing is that I really love it. One to wear when I'm wearing retro. My bottle is a vintage and was sealed.

Love it. It's sweet, mossy, a little chypre and smokey. The perfume is warm and cozy like a soft embrace. But it's strong and powerful. You must like these kind of mossy, sweet perfumes but i do very much. It's something of the past nowadays these kind of scents are no longer made. But for the vintage lovers a nice one.

I bought a half filled bottle of this from a vintage fair with the intention of selling it but once I had sniffed it I couldn't let go. This is one of my favourite perfumes of all time and I am beside myself that I only have one ml left!

Ah! I just opened a sealed vintage bottle that looked exactly like the one on this page. I can only agree with @shushkin. It has a special charm, maybe it's the jasmine and pepper that gives a youthful esprit. I'm writing this before any base notes have appeared. Is this supposed to smell like brandy? very sweet and jasmine but pungent like alcohol. Recently scooped this at a value village but wasn't sure if it was fake or not. No batch code to check and it was dirt cheap so why not.

As much as i remember seeing ddescription of the notes somewhere else, there is also a birch tar in the notes, since its clearly has that "tar" smell.

I can't help but think the Jannat/Jannet oil attar profile of herbal mossy slightly soapy fresh is an offshoot of this. This grande dame is still seen on a few Saudi homes and their wearers are older individuals who don't like oud or are not tolerating strong oud smells anymore because of age.
