Kologne, Shield of protection

I purchased a brand new, unsealed bottle of this from eBay with quite a saving so my thoughts are coming from that starting point. This was actually a pleasant surprise, firstly because the performance is better than expected. It is light but longevity was better than expected with some noticeable projection when sprayed on my tshirt. Although it’s far from a beast, it’s not as weak as some ratings on this page would suggest! Although, I’d agree that performance should be better at this price point. As for the scent. Well I think some of the reviews below capture this fairly well. It’s a traditional cologne style fragrance that isn’t trying to be groundbreaking but does have a certain quality about it. I’d describe it as a tart, citrus green fragrance. There’s a sharpness in the opening with a slight floral undertone. I can’t say I particularly pick up on any mint but I do detect a strong presence of neroli (the clean metallic type as opposed to the sweet floral neroli) and there’s definitely a greeness to it. There’s a touch of woods in the base but I wouldn’t say that’s it’s overly woody. At the time of writing I can see that someone has rated this similar to Nio. It’s been a long time since I smelled that fragrance but from memory, I would say this is in the same ballpark. Personally, it smells high quality to me but it isn’t unique and you only get 50ml, even if that’s in a lovely bottle. It is what it is and it’s not trying to be anything else so approach it with that in mind and you may not be so disappointed like others before. Ultimately, I guess we all want different things from this hobby we love. For some it’s value, others quality or novelty. It’s probably overpriced and not unique enough for most and therefore unnecessary but I really don’t regret my purchase, especially at the price I paid. I’ve always liked my cologne style fragrances and this will serve me very well for the summer months ahead. However, I’d agree with most that although it’s lovely, it isn’t ‘special’ enough to command full retail price.

First I'll say this smells nothing like Histories De Parfum 1828 and maybe ever so slightly (in the first minutes) like Paco Rabbane Genius Me. Genius Me is MUCH more synthetic. I own them both. As for Kilian Kologne, I really like it. It's got an amazing effervescent sparkle of fizzy orange and bergamot in the opening before a big dose of petigrain kicks in. After that, the neroli and rosemary arrive and steal the show from the citruses. The drydown is super clean classic mens high end cologne. It's almost like an Italian cologne but this feels more astute, and slightly less leisurely. I picture sparkling white tiles. Soapy clean vibes. This would be a great scent for the office. Longevity is about average to slightly better than average. Scent 8.1/10 Performance 5.5/10

I didn't like this fragrance at first. I still kind of don't. It smells good but not amazing. But pure smell should not be what fragrance is about. Also, Shield of protection sounds stupid and naïve. Don't just smell this from your wrist and then decide: don't judge a book by its cover. Put this fragrance on and go about your day. That's where Shield of protection shines. This fragrance, like many others, isn't meant to be just smelled. Shield of protection is meant to be experienced. Whenever I wear this scent, I feel comfortable, confident, and happy. I feel like I can do anything when wearing Shield of protection. I guess the name does fit after all.

A higher quality version of Artisan- John Varvatos. It opens up bright, sparkling, herbal and green. Might be slightly harsh for some that don't enjoy sharp citrus scents. After a few minutes it dries down and mandarin starts showing up with some floral aspects. Not as soapy as Artisan, but it's there. Unisex but on the masculine side of things. Performance is mediocre. 3-5 hours of skin performance we with good sillage. If you can get it for cheap, I will recommend this you check it out.

If you’re into scents like Bleu De Chanel, Aqua Di Gio etc etc, it’s in that genre in regards of fragrances. It smells fantastic, the mandarin and rosemary play off of each other wonderfully and the cedar which I assume is ISO-E SUPER hangs out in the background. This a mass appealing fragrance from Kilian that is for sure a winner but the price for what this fragrance is makes it not worth it.

I love a freshie admittedly, but I absolutely love this. Very sceptical blind buy, it’s fresh, slightly sweet and I totally get a sweet/vegetal type sap accord. I cannot stop sniffing my arm when wearing this. Sits closer to the skin but good longevity on me.

A great & unique unisex freshy. I like to wear it alone or layers nicely with fruity or floral - like one of my Jo Malone fragrances. Opening is aromatic, which lasts about two hours, and the. dries down to a light fresh musk.

Never heard of this before (it was in the "Fresh" Kilian discovery set). Absolutely to DIE for herbaly citrus dream. I'm living my best island summer Mediterranean fantasy with this one!

I tried this perfume yesterday. I was very surprised. This is the best perfume I've ever experienced. Fresh+Woody+Aromatic!! Perfect harmony!!!

Third of the four Fresh Citrus fragrances from my discovery set and so far this is the one that projects the best and is liked best by my family. Kologne Shield of Protection was the fragrance I was looking forward to the most after Moonlight in Heaven, and I must say this one didn't disappoint either. It opens with a strong citrus wall, though unlike something like Versace's Eros Energy, Kologne blasts you with a very refined and natural, woody, slightly earthy citrus scent. Once it dries down the citrus remains (though this may be because citrus chemicals adhere extremely well to my skin, a problem I went over in my Virgin Island Water review) but it becomes a "green sandalwood" scent. Sandalwood isn't part of this fragrance at all, which is why I find it odd that all the flowers and plants from the middle and base notes blend to make a smell very close to sandalwood. In a sense I can see the argument being made of Kologne being a linear scent, but simplicity isn't necessarily a bad thing and Kologne is an extremely good fragrance in my opinion. As I alluded to earlier, Kologne is the best projecting scent between it, Vodka on the Rocks and Bamboo Harmony. Kologne projects much more strongly, being perceived from farther than arms' reach like the other two, but not strong enough to have someone sitting across the room from you smelling it. I'd say it's a middle point between moderate and strong sillage from the site's scale. In terms of longevity, I can still smell it on my skin clearly 6 hours after spraying, but not as strongly as I could Bamboo Harmony. Considering this is a citrus scent with most other notes being plants and flowers, this too performs surprisingly well. Despite it being a fresh scent I wouldn't recommend overspraying this as it's quite dense and you'll smell yourself a lot even spraying lightly (I only did two sprays on my neck and once per forearm and shoulder), and it would probably be very asphyxiating in high summer heat.

So, I finally smelt this today. I am on the fence. Rather slightly disappointed, but when this has time to develop it becomes something beautiful. It starts with a VERY fresh lemon/mandarin smell. My nose goes lemon; and it’s like smelling the peel. At first, it’s underwhelming. It’s like “really? This is what they did?” But when it’s settled I started getting whiffs of it... “wow this is beautiful!” It envelops into something floral and has this sweet undertone. I don’t really know what the notes are per se, but I’d be satisfied with a travel sized of this for sure. Initial impression: 5/10 Once it’s settled: 8/10

Man, if they could just get the opening to last on this it would be a real banger! Unfortunately, the zesty and sharp freshness of the citrus dissipates rather quickly and it becomes a soapy, sweet orange scent that slightly radiates off the skin and reminds me of some kind of scented lotion. The opening leans masculine, but the dry down is very unisex. After a few hours the sweetness fades away and you’re left with a simplistic clean and soapy scent that you have to bring your nose close to in order to smell. Pleasant, but too weak on my skin to be worth the price.

Passed by the By Kilian shop in Paris. I had a bad opinion on the brand, having tested some best sellers. I always found them too boozy, too sweet, too annoying. I tested yesterday Kologne, Bamboo Harmony, A moonlight heaven, Playing with the devil and was pleasantly surprised. Kologne is super fresh, classy yet not too mature, and a very traditional cologne kind of scent. Problem is the performance is bad for an EDP, too bad. Too expensive for this. 7/10

When I first sprayed this I knew it smelled familiar, but I couldnt quite put my finger on it. Looked on here, and sure enough, it was LV Imagination that I was smelling. They are different enough that I can tell them apart, especially in the immediate opening, but they have enough similarities that owning both would be redundant. If I had to choose based on scent I would choose LV. If based on price, I would choose Killian.
