Hawaiian Ginger

Watery GINGER-FLOWER & CANTALOUPE. Opens with a burst of melon with soft citrus nuances and dries down to a powdery, aquatic, fruity musk. Overall I get a gorgeous ginger-flower & cantaloupe-melon scent that doesn't turn on the skin as many melon scents do. The aquatic tones are not too much and I don't get a pool chemical vibe that sometimes happens with aquatic scents Beautifully blended, and above average performance for a body spray. Contrast to Good Energy Cosmopolitan: These are different, but there is a similar orange-y vibe. Good Energy has a more forward creaminess and gourmand quality. Good Energy outperforms. Contrast to Heiress Paris Hilton: These are different, but they have been compared and I can see why, although HG lacks the bubbly champagne quality in Heiress. But underneath there is a similar musky fruit vibe. Heiress outperforms. Contrast to Un Jardin Apres La Mousson Hermes: These are different but there is a similar vibe with soft ginger-flower (represented in Hawaiian ginger by ginger & orange blossom). UJALM outperforms although Hawaiian ginger has above average performance for a body spray. Overall: above average performance for a body spray, and a gorgeous representation of cantaloupe melon that stays true, this is the perfect scent to wear in summer heat. It's a love for for me. I had this in middle/high school. I kept this in my gym locker and would always use it before/after gym class. I remember this used to be so potent, the entire locker room would smell like it. That wasn't an issue tho bc everyone loved it. In fact, a bunch of girls ended up getting it bc of that. I loved this and kept a bottle for years, until my mom threw/gave away my entire collection of 60+ fragrances when my parents sold their house (Yeah I know... Gut-wrenching. Blasphemy. The utter disrespect... I'm still mad about it). I haven't gotten around to replacing this, as I've opted for more "grown up" perfumes, but this still holds a very special place in my heart. In fact, all the Calgons do. They were the scents of my childhood and adolescence, and they will always remind me of those days.

I love this scent I wish it was stronger and would linger longer on my skin. Its a sweet clean scent that whisk's me away to a tropical island even on a rainy day! Its not to strong; I could spray half the bottle on my neck and not get overwhelmed. Even at first spritz there is not a strong crystallized ginger scent. Which is surprising because all the crystallized ginger candy that I have had are really strong. During the dry down the melon scent really come through. Till today i didnt know that melon was one of the notes. I sprayed the perfume and the body spray on today at 12:30pm ish and its 6:25pm now and I can still smell it lightly and mainly on my clothes. This scent is almost exactly like glade's Hawaiian ginger breeze. Which i also love!!!

Excellent for soothing and relaxing. I use to spray this in my son's hospital room so it wouldn't smell like a hospital and every person that would walk in would take note of how it created a little haven from the sterile smell of a hospital. It brings back bitter sweet memories. It is sweet and clean but not in a soapy way more like the smell of a fresh rain in a pineapple field. Love it!!

It is a very pretty scent. It is light, doesn't last long, but it is very nice. I always get compliments on it, from men and women. I usually wear it around the house, or when I am out and want to smell nice, but do not want to smell strong or grab attention. Seems it grabs attention anyway. And it is just a cheap little body spray!

Nostalgia and happiness in a bottle. "Calgon, take me away!" is right! It really does take me away to another place and another time....a pick me up for the every day stresses of my life and though I long for a warm climate and a secluded tropical beach somewhere...this will have to do.

I first tried this body mist when I was in grade 4 when I got it as a gift. EVER SINCE THEN, I have been obsessed with it - have the bath salts, body wash, body mist, etc and whenever I run out, it's the first thing I look for. I <3 this scent!!

Great fragrance , in perfume or body mist. Its very tropical sweet smell. Draws lots of compliments. Has a 90smelon overtone,which I like. with a sweet candy like smell of sugar and ginger. kinda reminds me of a pineapple hard candy . love it

This must be the wrong body spray. The original Hawaiian ginger is a lot older than 2003, because I remember wearing this in grade 9 in 2001! I will always love this scent. Floral, spicy and clean. This is the scent that got me into scents.

I’ve been through so many bottles of this in the last few decades it’s almost embarrassing... lol! This is the scent I reach for when I don’t wanna think too much... clean, floral, and fruity all at the same time.

This is a great spray for a good deal. It smells fresh and very fruity. I get mostly sweet melon scent with just a hint of ginger and vanilla. Great for summer and spring time!

I had the body mist in 9th grade and it was the first fragrance I ever finished. It was “blast through the entire bottle within a not long period of time” good.

I tried this out at the dollar store and got two compliments on the way to checkout. I love it. Does anyone else get banana? I am wearing it today in mid July.

I caught the scent of this in my high school hallway and it took forever to find it. It makes me Uber happy. :) Uplifting, like a new crush.

This launched before 2003 and it was the b o m b.com in middle school. Fruity, spicy, a little floral. Peak late 90s childhood right here.

Candy!!! This smells amazing. It's especially good for girls and teenagers. And also for those who just want to be young at heart. ;)

Calgon's Hawaiian Ginger is just not given enough credit. There. I said it. And, I mean it! The beautiful scent of melon and ginger just emits pure bliss to the olfactory senses like you wouldn't believe. This perfume almost has it all. It's fruity, fresh, calm, happy, bright, and a little soapy. The initial blast from the melon really sets the tone for the entire experience. Not too far behind it is that beautiful and watery ginger giving it a bright and bubbly personality. The citrus I think is playing backup to make sure things don't get too soapy from the orange blossom but my goodness, the orange blossom is a really nice balance to the sweet fruitiness. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves scents like pure seduction or love spell. They have similar vibes to one another but very much different from each other to stand out. Not to mention, Hawaiian Ginger is as cheap as it gets for a body spray and body care line. The only downside to this gem is the staying power but like I said, i'd suggest getting the entire body care line.

I like this and I'm not usually a fan of either ginger or melon notes, but here they are well done and doesn't smell like cheap bath products even though they are cheap. It is a slightly spicy fruity floral ginger scent that has a very clean and crisp feel. I like taking a shower and misting myself all over to cool down when it's oppressively hot. I like most of the Calgon line except the sweet ones, but this and Morning Glory are my favorites and ones I'll always repurchase.

The initial ginger might be off-putting to those who don't like ginger scents, but it does go away. Interestingly, my nose interprets the melon and fruits as a juicy, sugary peach note (while I'm nearly anosmic to intentional peach notes). It's very nice. Sometimes body sprays don't get enough credit. Many of them actually last longer and project better than designer frags on me.

juicy and fun pick me up for when u just wanna spray something on to smell a little fresher in the hot weather. the ginger is punchy and sharp but doesn't overpower the other notes. doesn't give me too much of a candy smell but it is certainly sweet and soapy and mmmmmmm just good. doesn't last very long but sillage is actually not bad!

I'm reviewing this without the nostalgia effect, I didn't grow up around it. And I still think it's good! It's so melon-forward, to me it's more of a melon scent than a ginger scent (though the ginger is there for sure). It's fresh and clean. Really good for the price point.

I used this in my early 20s. Loved it. It smelled like a tropical beach. It does smell a little cheap when you first put it on, but don't dismiss it. The body wash is wonderful, although I haven't bought it in years, I do recommend this to any late teen /early 20 yr olds.

Definitely a fresh and fruity scent for young girls to enjoy or for anyone at any age! I had this when I was a teenager around 5 years ago and it is definitely one of those scents that won’t linger on your body for long but will definitely linger in your memories.

I wore this in middle school. It was just a ritual to spray it on myself every morning after my shower. Never thought much of it but now it brings me back to the good old days of recess and pubescent crushes. Sweet, light and refreshing.

this scent used to be really good. it was light refreshing and kinda made you feel happy. now they've changed the formula and it doesn't smell the same. its stronger more intense and not as light

I had this in high school. It smells very orange-y and spicy. As it turns out, it’s also great at covering up the smell of weed.

I wore this over the weekend to do some cleaning and dog walking. I didn't care much for it at all. The melon-note is off-putting to me. I am just not a fan of smelling like melon. I can never get past it. To my nose, this fragrance is similar to Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Rubies. Only, I like Diamonds and Rubies, lol. Before I give this to my 19-year-old daughter, I'm going to try layering it with Diamonds and Rubies, and perhaps, something vanilla.

There are bunch of notes missing here. According to the Calgon website, this also has bergamot, apple, banana, pineapple, and mango but not orange blossom. Anyway, even knowing all this, I can describe this scent one way - too much melon. The melon overtakes all the other notes, even the ginger which is supposed to be star of this show. I'm not a fan of melon, so this is not for me. As it dries down, the other notes come through, and I can eventually detect the pineapple and mango. I like it better as the melon fades away. But it still wasn't a keeper for me. I gave it away after one wearing.

The body spray is pure melon-pineapple soap. Good quality, affordable, and indeed tropical, but too heavy for me.

The year it came out my uncle gave it to me for my 15th birthday present, and I instantly fell in love. It's so refreshing and invigorating, yet calming and beachy. I grew up on the beach, so this scent easily meshed with the warm quiet waters, sugar-white sand between my toes, and soothing sunlight on my skin. This scent is pure sunshine and happiness. I would still be using it today and continue to do so for the rest of my life...if they hadn't drastically changed the balance of scents. The original Hawaiian Ginger was so balanced that you almost couldn't place a finger on exactly what it was. It was citrusy and bright, yet almost more floral than citrus, and to me almost had a hint of banana. It was very smooth and very pretty. Then suddenly about three years ago, the scent shifted heavily to the citrus side, a change which was also signified by switching their packaging to a more 'orange' theme as opposed to the original light yellow flower theme. To me, this completely killed Hawaiian Ginger. There was a reason that I used Hawaiian Ginger instead of other citrus-based fragrances, and that was because the citrus -while present- did not overpower the floral aspects. It devastated me so much to see it change that I immediately bought a set of the old formula from ebay, simply so that I could find it in the future and smell everything I loved about my childhood. I've been searching for a fragrance that I love equally ever since.

My first memory of Hawaiian Ginger is from when I was of elementary school age. I was enrolled in summer camp and one of my camp counselors was wearing the body spray in this scent. I told her she smelled like bananas. She said, "It's not banana. It's Hawaiian Ginger!" Eventually I got to try it myself when I bought a 4-pack of Calgon body sprays at my local Kmart. I'm pretty sure I was in middle school at the time. Hawaiian Ginger and the other scents in the pack (Turquoise Seas, In the Rain, and Tropical Dream) are appropriate for pre-teen and teen girls but great for adult women too. (Some may even work for men.) I have a lot of body spray at the moment but think I'll get some more Hawaiian Ginger once I use more of what I have. The sweetness and spiciness make it a good choice even for the gym but I'd happily wear it on an everyday basis during the warmer months...or maybe even the cooler months.

I'm a lover of the sweet, sugary, and vanilla gourmands in general but I also have vivid memories tied to scents (like most people, I assume). 20 years ago in High school, my best friend wore this daily. Whenever I smell this, I'm instantly transported back to those times, specifically her dark purple bedroom, band posters on the wall, and Nine Inch Nails playing on her stereo while hanging out with a group of friends. A few reviews down mentions that it was really good for covering up the smell of weed and then it hit me why my friend wore it so often, and why I closely associate Hawaiian Ginger with feelings of partying (and being waay too young to be partaking in certain recreational activities). Besides my scent memories associated with this, it's really just a nice light, watery, ginger-orange smell. Think of a lemon-ginger tea with hints of orange and melon. It's pretty.

I haven't used this recently but it was one of my favorites. I'm thinking I should give it a try again, even though people have said it has changed a bit. The thing about Calgon is that for the price, the quality is excellent. But their marketing is not so good...I can't find the products anywhere. In my area, I can only find about 3 different scents that they have on their site. I've looked everywhere for Red Velvet, and the Brazil Nut Fruity ones... I don't want them to be discontinued and off the shelves. They've already started replacing them with cheaper smelling brands. For me, Calgon are better than most of the VS ones because of the great scent for less payoff..but please pack the shelves and market them better! I want to buy them. Can't find them.

I have the Hawaiian Ginger by Calgon but not the "intense" one like in the picture. Idk if it's the same thing, but I am so sad with my current bottle. I remember my older cousin leaving this at my house, and I was so in love with the smell. It was such a unique, warm, citrusy, and nostalgic fragrance for me. Eventually, I ran out of the 10+ year old bottle and got a new one. I feel like they went down in quality somehow because this one smells more acidic, almost metallic. It smells very synthetic and cheap to me, in other words. I mean, it is a cheap fragrance, but whyy??? Maybe it just needs 10 years to age. I will keep it in the meantime.

I had this when I was younger. I liked it a lot in-store, so I bought it. Later though, after using it a few times, the scent just seemed to turn my stomach. I still think it smells okay, so I don't know what's wrong. My sister in law still owns it, and when I smell it on her, I immediately recognize it, and it still smells so intense and makes me nauseous. Since there is no "indifferent" tab, just love, like, or dislike, I decided to leave my two cents off that area, but did click the little sun because this is definitely a daytime scent.

Ohhhh Hawaiian Ginger oh oh oh it’s been a long time! I saw someone on here mention this in another review so that I would come give some love to the old gem of a fragrance! I would say every woman aged 35+ has owned this or at least worn this a few times in their life lol it is nostalgic like no other fragrance could be, I have very specific memories about this oldie but a goodie! I’m surprised it was never made into an actual EDT or EDP, would have made a ton of money!

First body spray that I ever got as a kid. I remember carrying the spray and the matching lotion around with me at school, I thought it smelled soooo good back then. Bot now, it is a little too overpowering on me. It makes my nose burn it's so strong. I have a bottle, but it's something that I like to admire from a distance and reminisce over because there was a time in my life that I really appreciated it for what it was, but now I guess my tastes have changed a bit.

I used to wear this occasionally so I looked at again today in the drug store. I smelled it today & it doesn't smell as good as it used to. It is a blast of ginger & melon with little orange blossom detectable. I think maybe the "grungey" element of it just repulsed me today! It used to smell a little more floral than it seems to now...I was disappointed because this was my fave from Calgon.

I've been buying this for YEARSS! I wish it had a creamy base but still I love the soft gungery scent. I definately smells like hawaii, but i im a very seasonal person and use this around the fall, since it's a light warm/cool scent. It infact reminds me a little of fall too (at least early, nto late fall)

I bought this because many reviews said it smelled like pineapple candy. I get lots of soapy spice with heavy musk. It's taken over an hour for any thing sweet to emerge off my skin. Smells like shower gel to me. I'm going to have to pass this on this one...it doesn't work for me.

Hawaiian Ginger body spray smells like a juicy tropical fruit that has been growing next to ginger. The basic composition of this is mouth watering and refreshing, but the EDP is not so great, as it has a very synthetic plastic-smelling edge. The body spray is much better.

Grabbed this in a discount store for a few bucks. I thought it sounded interesting because I really like the smell of ginger. Avoid this at all costs. I can't even begin to describe this. This is not something anyone would wish to smell like. Yes, it is that bad.

This transports me back to middle school 2003-2004 I always had a little bottle of this in my purse <3 smells like ginger and melon. It’s fresh and sweet, but because of the ginger it was a little more unique than your typical sweet vanillas.

I had forgot all about this. I was 15 or 16 and i had a crush on a boy that was hawaiin... and every time i wore this, i thought of him. Its a beautiful scent, it smells like hawaii. Very sweet and fresh.

My boyfriend said, "smells like a big bowl of fruit! Good, though!" I agree. Fruity and fresh, sweet but not too sugary. Lightly floral. The ginger lifts the melon up and makes it very refreshing.

I had a bottle in highschool maybe 2007 or 2008 and it smelled really fresh and fruity. I bought another one recently and it's sharp ginger and some watery notes:/
