Velvet (Monroe)

I love logging on to fragrantica and seeing a perfume where the reviews are all over the place, I think that's the fun of fragrance! To me, this is a warm scent with a strong smoky, sweet pine note that carries from the first spray to the dry down. I really like this scent, because while not particularly complex, I think it's perfect for fall/winter and very unisex. Super cozy and reminds me of being in bundled up by a campfire, surrounded by pine trees, on a brisk fall night. I definitely get the 70s vibe that someone below mentioned, too. Probably that smoky incense note. The lasting power is ~9-10 hours on my skin and even longer on clothes.

I ended up buying a full size of this - which is funny because I didn't like it the first few times I tried it. It smelled like licorice to me. But then i was out later and noticed the dry-down had transformed beautifully to the juniper and mimosa combo and it was intoxicating. I go so many compliments. Now I love it for certain occasions, but I probably wouldn't wear it to the office or on an airplane.

I love this perfume. The anise pulls super strong on me which I love. The smoke and cedar are more muted on me. It’s very 70s vibes and I read a review on their website where someone related the scent to “drinking absinthe at a garden party” and I definitely agree. I find it very sexy and can’t help but bring my wrist up to my face multiple times when I have it on.

This is kind of a mystical one. Not for me at all, but I can appreciate it. I really love the mix of mimosa and faint smoke. But what I think is making it slightly unappealing is the camphor. It has a hint of medicinal to it that just makes it strange. But I still find it interesting and am not repelled by it (like I was by Blonde).

Kind of reminds me of the leathery smell of my grandma's Chrysler, but smoky and sexier. Kind of burns the back of my throat to smell, but I don't really mind. Smell does bring to mind shag carpet in a 70s motel room covered in mirrored things.

Smoky and deep purple. It doesn't pull too camphor on my skin, but the mimosa is definitely there. Musky, dry, and prickly at the same time. Very unique and very 70's nightclub-feeling.

This was really interesting. I could immediately smell the smoke and cedar, and I could pick up on the anise after about fifteen minutes. Camphor, too. However, I also smelled a lot of things that weren't there. I smelled really strong iris and cherry cola notes, and I had no idea where they were coming from. I could barely smell the anise after an hour; I could only smell the cedar and phantom cherry cola. EDIT: After much consideration and repeated testing, I have determined that this fragrance smells exactly like Bottle Caps candy. It's uncanny.

This to me is like an almondy-licorice fragrance. The anise gives it great depth, but I smell something powdery in here too - like a fuzzy violet/almondy smell, with an anisic depth.

100% agree with the person who said it smells like bottle caps candy. I came to the conclusion at work today and I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. Specifically the brown ones.

This is an almost blinding anise. Strong and true. Not licorice-y this is ANISE in all caps. Very smoky and almost sickly pungent. Definitely not for me but it should be said that this is NOT a BLIND BUY worthy fragrance.

If you like ambrette, you might like this. For me, the combination of ambrette, camphor and smoke is very unpleasant. It stings my nose.

chinese five spice immediately came to mind with this one, the anise is strong. not something i wanna wear as a perfume.

I have a full bottle of this and it's beautiful, but I don't find myself reaching for it because it always smells different and I never know what to expect! I love the mimosa, which is the note that drew me in initially. And the anise and juniper are lovely. But the camphor and smoke can be off-putting on the days when they pull stronger. On the days when they stay in the background, I love this fragrance and it's nostalgic/edgey juxtaposition. My husband always compliments this fragrance, so perhaps it's just my nose that's fickle.

I had a sample of this from the OG sample tin and my god I am kicking myself for not buying before they discontinued it. This one initially threw me off—something about the very strong opening was a shock to my nose—but, after a few tries, I have grown to love this. I do love anise, and the smoky-sweet-musky drydown is both nostalgic and alluring. If anyone has a bottle they don’t want, please message me!!
