Hansa Yellow

I'm not usually a gourmand enthusiast but I can't help but fall for this glammed up yellow cake saturated with bright neroli and orange blossom and a distinctly banana-like ylang ylang. Texturally, it is smooth and creamy as I have come to expect from DSH perfumes. There is something suggesting an eggy, custardy quality as well. The citrus brightness keeps this from being too heavy or cloying on me -- just a simple, easygoing and very friendly yellow fragrance.

Lovely orange flower, neroli and ylang. Those are the notes. Not headache inducing. Does not last very long but very pretty.

I think the fragrantica list of notes is wrong. I do smell yellow narcissus, especially strong when spritzed. First time I smell that flower in a perfume to be honest but I like it. Despite some strong sweet notes such as banana and vanilla I smell mostly bright yellow flowers at first. I guess the other notes are just blending in and makes the smell much more soft and mellow. The banana is distinctive in the dry down though, I think. As most DSH perfume it's beautiful and truly unique. It fits its name very well: a bright, sunny and happy perfume.

Unfortunately my expectations were off on this one. I'm a huge sucker for a banana scent, and typically enjoy a neroli-tinged gourmand, so I thought this might be a winner. Instead I found Hanna Yellow to be all about the florals, indolic-ly so. I'm pretty meh on ylang ylang, and trying to warm up to jasmine, but they just overshadowed my preferred notes too much for me to accept them. Not really getting any butter either. I may try my sample again later as Dawn's scents seem to have a way of coming around; I was just hoping for something sweeter, fruitier.

To me it's almost like I can smell the yellow cake but it's buried under Neroli leaves. Super green pungent leaves on top of a super moist yellow birthday cake. It's extremely unique but for my personal preference I wish I smelled more of the blooms of the florals and more of that beautiful spongy yellow cake.

I got a sample of this perfume - and, I have to admit, this is a perfume that you smell and go, "That's nice." And, if you're like me, you're a bit dismissive at first. It's light, floral, bright, and happy. It's subtle and wearable and, you think, "But, it's nothing special . . . " Until you realize that you keep sniffing at your wrist throughout the day. And, in spite of yourself, you really are smiling and happy. This scent is a bit of an enigma that way. It seems so sweet, pretty, and straight forward. Uncomplicated and effortless, it has surprising longevity. (Due to covid - I really can't speak to projection.) However, it's enchanting. And, while it's not the sort of thing that people would call a knockout perfume, it's the sort of classic grace and beauty that would make them ask what you're wearing or possibly give you a compliment.

My sense impressions are sometimes so odd that I wonder from whence they come, and Hansa Yellow is yet another tropical floral (along with a ylang & gardenia candle I have) that makes me wonder, where is all the heat and smoke coming from? Yes, I get golden, syrupy ylang with the strong effect of liquid smoke and/or the smell of a freshly lit candle wick. The smell of heat, like you just freshly lit ylang and orange blossom petals ablaze. This is not incense or campfire-smoky, but a lively consuming heat. This effect is chased by a rich banana aroma, at once both creamy and underripe — ylang often does this for me. Final stages reveal a powdery, musky, softly sweet vanilla, smelling of conversation hearts. What a ride. And the listed notes herald...butter? I’ll keep working on this puzzle...but I really like Hansa Yellow.

I got this in last month's Olfactif box, where the theme had to do with a synesthetic experience of color triggered by scent. Hansa Yellow smells like sweet, overripe yellow flowers. I'm quite surprised that Frangipani isn't a listed note, because I sense quite a lot of it - or maybe it's the combination of the other florals, butter and banana that evoke frangipani. The banana and vanilla are sweet but aren't caramel-confectionary, and are instead very botanical. This fragrance doesn't seem to change or develop as it wears, and smells like Smarties candies the whole time. My (preteen) daughter likes to wear this one, and it suits her well.

In the cool April weather in Los Angeles, the mornings are chilly and dewy before the sun comes out. I have an orange tree right outside my back door and in the mornings when I open the door to walk my dog, I get a blast of cool, fresh neroli. The rich, warm smell of summer in the cool air is heaven. That beautiful smell is perfectly captured in this beautiful perfume. DSH is such a talented perfumer and her scents never fail to intrigue and delight me. This one makes me smile from ear to ear! It's so happy!

Lemon, ylang, butter, and banana! This is weird combination! i get that buttery ylang, and sweet lemon! the colder the more buttery and lemony it gets as the balance is quite weird as well as u can smell every single note separately! This one is quite impressive and very unique as i personally love ylang, and now it's with citrus and bitter. Impressive.

White floral, buttery deliciousness! Jasmine, ylang ylang and butter all the way! WAAAY too girly for me, I'd never EVER wear something like this, but it is great to smell. Totally worth trying, if this is your kinda thing...
