Social Club

It is strange how much influence the secondary has on the primary in our minds. Reading all the comments of Jeanne Arthes perfumes smelling “cheap” or “synthetic” is baffling, having in mind that Arthes Group is not only based in the capital (small, but powerful) of perfume creation, but involved in the experimentation, research and production of those coveted “famous” and “expensive” brands. Moreover, they have access to the finest resources and the quality of all their production is remarkable. The probably most logical conclusion would be that the low prices influence and distort perception, creating the (secondary) impression of things smelling “cheap”. Afterall, if an outstanding perfume can truly cost ten, or twenty, or even thirty times less then perfumes with similar or lower quality, what would that say about the market, and about the “you can’t get good quality for such a low price”? The world as we know it will fall apart, it seems. That being said, Social Club is extraordinary. It shares the otherworldly figleaf note with Ombre Noir (Lalique). In both perfumes bitter, sour and sweet are combined in a strange concoction, reminding the Lalique Noir Premier collection and some of the fruitier Serge Lutens (like La Couche du Diable). The balance of sour, sweet, sharp and intoxicating in Social Club though is unique. It is more sour and less dry than Ombre Noir. In fact, it seems one could fully grasp the elusive figleaf note in Goutal’s Ninfeo Mio only after encountering Social Club or Ombre Noir. The really uncanny aspect is the combination of familiar and alien. It does smell like figleaf, very faintly like tobacco leaf, plum and liqueur, but then it also smells like something totally strange, coming from different olfactory planet. Red marshes on Mars, surrounded by unknown, pungent flowers.

smells just like barbershop bay rum (american style - NOT Jamaican) spray that stings the hell out your freshly-cut hair, and then settles into a very powdery vanilla. as with other jeanne arethes fragrances, performance leaves a little to be desired, but you can't really complain for the little that you pay.

Good option for a cheapie, daily night or inside air conditioning fragrance. This is something that you can spray a lot of and just go on your business with. The smell is decent, and for the price that I got this fragrance, it's a banger. Gets the job done.

At first smells like a wet cherry wood smoking pipe that was used for rich vanilla tobacco, then transforms to spicy tonka coconut, almost boozy. Very warm and soft body. Very unisex, and long lasting. Even after washing hair can still smell it.

This is a clone of tobacco vanille with a coconut twist, honestly this is a bargain for the price. It's not gonna blow your mind or anything but it's a pretty solid dupe for the cheap price.

This is a hidden gem. Jeanne Arthes is a Company that makes quality perfumes. Don’t let the Low Price foil you. Comparable to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille.

It's just really good for the price, my opinion is: - It can be cloying if over sprayed - it smells very close to tobacco vanille

Just got this for about 4 EUR which is an amazing price. You can tell from the start it is not something high quality but it's decent, especially for this price. I find the spicy notes very similar to the ones in 1 million but this one is warmer and sweeter overall, no citrus. Next time I am at the mall I will smell TF TV and I will let you know if I also think it's similar.

Jeanne Arthes Social Club for the price, it is much better than it has any right to be. It definitely has that Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford DNA, but not completely. It feels like a softer, slightly lighter twist and in this case that is a positive thing. The opening is sweet, warm and spicy, with dried fruits, pink pepper and a tobacco leaf note that gives it that familiar cozy direction. Then coconut, fig and spices make it creamier and smoother, while vanilla, tonka bean and cacao take over in the base. My only problem is that I wish there was more tobacco, or at least something stronger to cut through the sweetness, because most of the time the sweet vanilla-dried fruits side is what I get the most. I am not usually a fan of very sweet fragrances, but I have to admit this one is really good. It smells warm, comforting and surprisingly appealing. If you like sweet tobacco-style scents, this is probably one of the best cheap options you can get. Performance is excellent, especially for the price. It projects strongly, lasts easily 5–6 hours and I could still smell it a little on my skin even after showering. I also think this would be perfect around Christmas, when that warm, sweet, spicy vibe makes the most sense. For me, this is a safe blind buy, especially if you already like sweet fragrances. It is not the most refined tobacco-vanilla scent ever made, but at this price (major factor), it understood the assignment a little too well.

To me, Tobacco Vanille always smelled something like pouring boiling honey on an old leather couch. This, though overall similar, has none of that darkness, that pungency, instead it's replaced by a powdery, flat coconut and a surprisingly noticeable fig accord that sadly for me evokes some specific scent I associate with childhood dentist appointments... It's synthetic, strong, though not really my thing, but it carries 70% of the Tobacco Vanille DNA and I never enjoyed that scent either, so I can't really complain. Especially not for the price of 8€ My ideal Tobacco-Vanilla combination remains Blazing Mr. Sam

oh wow! smells so amazing. I bought it after buying Jeanne Arthes Deep Sea for myself and ending up giving to my boyfriend. it is such a deal for the price point. Clove and cinnamon smell comes through so so much. has a a creamy sweetness mixed with warm spices like a winter drink. i love it.
