Heliaca

This is the most elegant oud-based fragrance I’ve ever smelled! Not only is it elegant, but it’s practically the only oud creation I can tolerate these days. I mean: I hate being at the supermarket, on the bus, or waiting in line at the pharmacy, or at work — anywhere you are, people walk by and leave a sticky amount of oud on you that can give you a headache. That's not Heliaca! All of that is a WORLD AWAY from the oud that JCE has created here. I first bought Heliaca in 2020, before oud became “mainstream” (now I’ve even smelled it in the shampoo at my hairdresser’s... soon it’ll be in soup!). Anyway, I’d been using Montale’s Dark oud since 2008... so it wasn’t new to me. But here, combined with ginger (and more) I finally realized how much you can play with the intensity and nuances. Not everything has to be a punch in the face (or in the nose). Yes, in fact, you’re supposed to spray it several times a day— or not... that’s the idea. People should stop complaining about that and learn how to layer, or learn the difference between acqua and profumo! For me, Heliaca is an invitation to dream of ginger when it brushes against you because you’ve almost forgotten you sprayed it on: it’s a play of light and shadows, it works well in extreme heat, but also in spring and fall. I don’t use it in winter because I prefer Nubica for winter. I’m collecting all the acque Singulières by Le Couvent Maison de Parfum. Starts off with an absolutely energising burst of ginger. Tones down to a wonderful close-range scent that is lively and bright. It mellows down to a fairly calming scent at just the right time few hours into wearing it, at least on my skin. I cannot agree with this being a winter scent, for me this personally is a spring and summer scent, though I'll definitely wear it during each season. The way it smells reminds me of Kenzo's Tokyo but more mature, more sophisticated without trying to attract attention too much.

Reframe most of what has been said here: The opening rather than a cola/gingerale - to me and also a friend I shared this with - is much more of a spicy wintery infusion: Definite Cloves and ginger with hints of pepper, cinnamon and cardamom, a real spice-blend syrup. Oud/gaiac is present throughout, it’s not an animalic one, rather a warm slightly smoky amber woody Oud. With time the spices tone down and a sweet side flanks the woody core. A Great relaxing holiday Oud for moments of quiet and home relaxation :)

I love this version of an oud fragrance. It is not the predictable dark, animalic, oriental oud scent you might expect. It’s very smooth, warm, soft spoken and versatile, without surprises along its development. I also get some soapy kardemom, old paper and a hint of vanilla. This is a very well constructed creation with its own character.

ginger and oud are not the only notes in this fragrance, there’s also cardamom (which is very prominent especially in the opening), rosemary, bergamot and guaiac wood. the ginger and cardamom gives it a hint of coca cola-ishness. it’s sweet and warm and cozy. very unisex, imo. i love it

This is quite a challenging scent. At first it's very spicy and energetic, then it turns into something much more warm and oudy that lasts for many hours. Simple, but effective. Unforgettable and unique. Strong, but not overwhelming. I can't wait to have it in my collection!

A bit citrus on the opening but later is woody in the best way, dense, masculine, liturgic. Natural and elegant, dark. Smokey is a touch that I can taste... Nice fragrance, very interesting house. I like it a lot.

I love this! I think it's a perfect replacement for Gucci Homme, and it's on sale now at Marionnaud. It lasts forEVER. It's warm and spicy and woody and it makes me feel like sexy Christmas. Love.

The way I perceive this perfume depends a lot of the temperature. I have only tried it in fall and winter, and it seems to perform better in lower temperatures. It reminds me a lot of the scents of nature around my father's home at the Costa Blanca in Spain. The opening is sparkling coca cola (ginger and cardamom) with lemon (bergamot) and ice, sunny weather, with a subtle scent of pines in the background. To me there is something earthy and leathery that reminds me of guaiac wood, that's probably the agarwood. I really enjoy this scent, it's uplifting, not too sweet, simple, yet intriguing to my nose. Unisex. I found Le Couvent Maison de Parfum during covid 19 lock-down. The scents of this house, particularly the remarkable perfume series, really made made me conscious of how to travel through my olfactory system. They brought me to parts of the world that I longed to visit. Heliaca also still has this effect on me, I'm transported to the Middle Sea, the coasts of Spain.

After the two-second coca cola or ginger ale opening, it suddenly gets intensely smoky on my skin, smelling as if you set cardamom pods on fire. All I get is smoke and cardamom. Thankfully this phase lasts only briefly and then, some sort of magic happens. It becomes a warm, inviting woody scent with a gentle sweetness. Very calm, soft and quiet. A good companion for a stay-at-home reading day in colder months. This is actually pretty close to what I had imagined what Whispers in the Library would smell like. WitL smells absolutely gorgeous but way too sweet and lipstick-y for a library-inspired fragrance imo. Although it doesn’t remind me of heliaca/eagle at all, I get a decent library vibe from this one instead.

I dont personally smell the ginger really that much in this at all, at first im getting a really noticeable peppery smell with some other warm spices and a bit of a bitter ginger, however that pepperiness does fade away after an hour or two and leaves a very comforting and smooth woody scent that i really enjoy I personally think its a decently good value for the money and especially if you have any Iso E Super that you can spray onto this, it makes a very heavenly smooth and aromatic combination thats just oh so wonderful !

Finally, an oud which thrives in summertime. It is a plain, bland perfume with no ups and downs, no challenges, and no stories to say. It is what it is. Cool wood, fine oud, heaths, shrubs and earth. Can be reapplied, it goes well in the office and at the cocktail after hours, it doesn’t shout, it just is, it doesn't get stronger or annoying. A perfect little bottle for the coming summer, for those who can’t stand citrusy bath cleaning and/or lavender moth-balls formulas - the way 90% of summer fragrances are.

I'd say there are more spices than only ginger. I notice nutmeg and green cardamom, at least. And a spoonful of demerara sugar. A fine, wearable, office-safe summer oud, with little sillage and weak longevity, but the bottle is bag size so can be reapplied during the day.

An elegant spicy woody oud, elegant and natural. I’m getting notes of strong pepper with nutmeg and cinnamon, with a touch of vanilla, creating a fusion of spiced wood. Not a typical oud and a masterpiece.
