Rashomon Volume I

So I managed to get my hands on the Rashomon Vol 1. As a habit, I went over the notes (not that I can detect all) its it help mysel identify the notes. The one that catches the eye - Mango. Now that intrigued me. Why would i consider wearing a Mango note. More on that later.... Now the other notes definitely were something I like: Oud, ambergris, Sandalwood.. So we spray a nice bit on the wrists. Smooth sexy vibes. Forget the notes, the Rashomon effect takes over. This is an absolute gem of a fragrance. The perfumer seems to have ditched the usual practise of standout notes in favour of experience. And behold, pulled it off. Did I say why would I consider.... I would wear this. If I were to choose a single word descriptive - Debonair. Highly recommended.

It is definitely not a perfume for everyone. Here the opening is very animalic and makes you think of furry horse leather with tropical floral sweetness and creaminess. I immediately see a silhouette of high class feminine figure wearing elegant gloves and victorian style dress like biting an old time ricochet bullet from 17th century perfumed gloves. After 3 hours, this dries down to a semi-sweet plumeria cat fur. Oud/woody notes is not very prominent from my nose throughout. I would classify this as a floral leathery amber. The perfume has strong sillage and 7+ hours longevity. It will be something to sniff and experience once in a while and not suitable for daily wearing.

the limited productions from karmic hues are gems. but since they are limited, one needs to get them while one can. both rashomon i and ii are sold out. given that different batches will definitely be very different, i feel lucky to have my two bottles. the good news is that they are intense and may last for a while. truly niche and intriguing. certainly not for everyone, especially those looking for something easy and airy. frankly, i find it difficult to use words for the olfactory experience. yes, spicy, oudy, and non-sugary sweet. altho not dominant if one likes the melange of flavors in mango, this captures the elusive richness of the fruit without trying to mimic it.
