Wow. I couldn’t disagree more with catwoman408! I guess this is why there are so many fragrances out there! I wonder if it had spoiled slightly? It smells heavenly in the bottle but really comes alive on the skin. To me this fragrance has a subtle complexity that is rarely found in perfume. I believe this is because of the very nature of perfumes, combined with the culture of the buyers or market where the perfume is sold. This is why it was never sold outside of Japan, according to the designer. A few years ago I found an orchid with almost the exact fragrance of this perfume. Unfortunately it died and I have never been able to identify for certain the exact species. My wife is Japanese and wore this almost exclusively until it was discontinued. I buy whatever I can find, and would love to find somebody who could clone it.

I received this many years ago after reading about it in a book about orchids. At the time, it wasn't available in the U.S. A friend bought it in Japan for me. Apparently, it wasn't available in other parts of Asia either, so it turned into a bit of a mission for him, and he altered his iternerary on a business trip to pass through Japan, where is was everywhere. It was so exotic and precious and I'm still so grateful for his thoughtfulness! I'm not crazy about the scent, though. There's no depth to it, just one flat smell that has the heaviness of jasmine but not the beauty. It smells feminine in a biological way. It doesn't smell like it has a musk or civet base, and yet it's stinky. Imagine a cute anime character: in the bottle, this smells like her week-old dirty underwear. On the skin, it smells like an elderly Geisha wearing too much perfume. This description makes it seem more interesting than it is. This frag might be brilliant as a base note as an alternative to civet. It's heavy and lacks freshness, so maybe I'll try layering it with something sharp and sweet. I'll report back if I get good results.
