Social Club

It is strange how much influence the secondary has on the primary in our minds. Reading all the comments of Jeanne Arthes perfumes smelling “cheap” or “synthetic” is baffling, having in mind that Arthes Group is not only based in the capital (small, but powerful) of perfume creation, but involved in the experimentation, research and production of those coveted “famous” and “expensive” brands. Moreover, they have access to the finest resources and the quality of all their production is remarkable. The probably most logical conclusion would be that the low prices influence and distort perception, creating the (secondary) impression of things smelling “cheap”. Afterall, if an outstanding perfume can truly cost ten, or twenty, or even thirty times less then perfumes with similar or lower quality, what would that say about the market, and about the “you can’t get good quality for such a low price”? The world as we know it will fall apart, it seems. That being said, Social Club is extraordinary. It shares the otherworldly figleaf note with Ombre Noir (Lalique). In both perfumes bitter, sour and sweet are combined in a strange concoction, reminding the Lalique Noir Premier collection and some of the fruitier Serge Lutens (like La Couche du Diable). The balance of sour, sweet, sharp and intoxicating in Social Club though is unique. It is more sour and less dry than Ombre Noir. In fact, it seems one could fully grasp the elusive figleaf note in Goutal’s Ninfeo Mio only after encountering Social Club or Ombre Noir. The really uncanny aspect is the combination of familiar and alien. It does smell like figleaf, very faintly like tobacco leaf, plum and liqueur, but then it also smells like something totally strange, coming from different olfactory planet. Red marshes on Mars, surrounded by unknown, pungent flowers.

smells just like barbershop bay rum (american style - NOT Jamaican) spray that stings the hell out your freshly-cut hair, and then settles into a very powdery vanilla. as with other jeanne arethes fragrances, performance leaves a little to be desired, but you can't really complain for the little that you pay.

Good option for a cheapie, daily night or inside air conditioning fragrance. This is something that you can spray a lot of and just go on your business with. The smell is decent, and for the price that I got this fragrance, it's a banger. Gets the job done.

At first smells like a wet cherry wood smoking pipe that was used for rich vanilla tobacco, then transforms to spicy tonka coconut, almost boozy. Very warm and soft body. Very unisex, and long lasting. Even after washing hair can still smell it.

This is a clone of tobacco vanille with a coconut twist, honestly this is a bargain for the price. It's not gonna blow your mind or anything but it's a pretty solid dupe for the cheap price.
